Detailed Reviews
Booked this for an overnight stop on way back from visiting familly in Surrey. Familly run great location. Brilliant service from booking at end of July to leaving 19th Aug.
We have been to Stow many times while touring Cotswolds when children were very young to more recent cottages and said we would stay here sometime. We were not dissapointed. Due to the recent Covid events they were closed at time of booking but reserved a room without taking deposits. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the precautions taken under current restrictions are very evident. They reopened early August and we arrived 18th, nothing is too much trouble, we had room 10 overlooking the church. Very comfortable, spacious and quiet. An extremely comfortable bed and tea / coffee etc. Wonderful shower all you would ever need. We dined in the restaurant and the food and service was faultless. Great menu considering others are only having limited service, all 3 courses were excellent. Breakfast on day of departure was brilliant lovely food and great service again. Checking out was easy plenty staff to look after you. A fantastic time and experience. Well done Stow Hotel you really delivered.

We visited this hotel in August 2020 after its Covid opening. We were reassured with safety sanctions in place and hand sanitizer located throughout the hotel. The first thing I have to say is that we have never stayed anywhere at all and met hotel staff as genuinely friendly and helpful as at this hotel and I cannot emphasise that enough. Whilst the hotel is looking a little tired, it more than makes up for in warmth and comfort and most certainly has that homely feel to it - again the staff help with that. It is most definitely a place to relax and unwind and the hotel grounds are also a delight to enjoy. It has a perfect location being in the centre of Stow with easy travel to surroundings villages/areas of interest. The restaurant food was delicious and delightfully served. I have to mention our mattress and pillows are some of the most comfortable we have ever had! I have given this review 4/5 merely because areas of the hotel need a little TLC but that said I would not hesitate in returning.

+1
Lovely hotel and staff.
It's dated but it gives it real character and wouldn't be the same modern.
Lovely cosy fire
Comfy beds and bed linen
Very clean
Great breakfast cooked well and hot
The snow helped make it even more Christmasy
Central location
The shower is hot but a but slow that's my only negative tbh

I only ever write reviews for really bad or really good experiences. This falls very much into the second category.
I, my husband and my elderly parents stayed at Stow Lodge Hotel on the 21st of May this year. We called in the day before on the off chance that they could accommodate us the following night and they could. We were offered exactly what we wanted at a very reasonable rate. The receptionist (Robert) was extremely helpful and engaged and clearly knew his job inside out. What a refreshing change to encounter someone who liked his job and was very good at it.
I later read that the hotel is family run and has been for decades. It shows. The staff training is exemplary; they should export it to other establishments and charge good money to do so. All the staff we encountered were courteous, engaged (important quality that) and on the ball.
I’ve worked in hotels myself and know that a good staff is like gold dust.
If you want a pretentious overpriced hotel that is trying too hard to be something it isn’t, then this is not the place for you. If however you want a well run, happy in its own skin friendly hotel with devinely comfy beds, go for it. It seems to be used by both tourists and locals and obviously has many returning guests so I’m guessing they are doing something very right. We will certainly be back. Thank you Stow Lodge, we’ll be back.

Stayed for a weekend with my partner, the hotel is situatated on the village square, best way to enter the carpark is via the main road so ignore your satnav.
Hotel sits in nice grounds and the main building is old with character. We found the staff to be very friendly and polite, decor throughout is keeping in character with the building. Our room was comfortable overlooking the churchyard ( note the church clock chimes on the hour every hour).
We found the guest lounge a nice place to sit and have a pre-dinner drink. Standard of food was good, traditional English menu and a decent but not extensive wine list.
I noted comments about prices on other reviews, the area is a tourist destination in an affluent area so prices will reflect this, I thought the prices were fair.

We were staying in Stow for 2 nights and decided to try the Lodge for our second night's meal. We had a drink first which we could have taken in the hotel bar or lounge, we opted for the lounge which was comfortable. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and table were formally set up. The meal was very nice indeed and the staff were extremely pleasant throughout the night. We had a misshap with my meal; I accidently managed to unscrew the salt grinder which dropped the contents into my meal. This was cleared away very quickly and the staff were more than happy to provide me with another main course without any extra charge!! The set menu is very good value for money with about 7 or 8 choices of starter and main courses. Lovely old fashioned style which was carried through to the service from the staff.

Booked a 2 night stay for a pre Xmas break with my wife. From the initial phone call to finally checking out, we couldn't have had a more friendly, efficient and welcoming experience! The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Stow, great for touring the Cotswolds.
From first stepping through the door, you get the impression that you are back in the 1980's, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't been refurbished since then - far from it, everywhere is spotlessly clean and seems recently decorated. The staff and owners tell me it's been deliberately kept that way as that's what their regular guests like, and very many revisit year after year.
All the furniture is comfy and in good condition and the hotel is warm, unlike so many hotels & restaurants in these covid times. The lounge has a superb inglenook fireplace and the bar has a good selection of drinks and wines. The food is fabulous, always piping hot and big servings, cooked to order breakfast being one of the best hotel breakfasts we've had, and the 80's theme running to even having paper doilies on your plates! There's even a wall mounted coin in slot phone box under the stairs in the hallway.
We had room 7 which, whilst not being one of the bigger rooms, was perfectly adequate with a comfy King size bed, 2 comfy chairs, a wall mounted Sony TV, and a well equipped bathroom, complete with soft & fluffy bath sheets.
A great experience, good value - we will definitely return.....

Very unfriendly and unaccommodating staff. Last weekend we were staying in Stow and tried to order drinks in the afternoon to drink outside in the garden as it was a very hot day.
Despite the sign at the front of the establishment saying 'non guests are welcome' this was certainly not the sentiment that was shown to us us. The gardens were in a lovely setting and had at least 15 tables to sit at and only two tables were being used. Despite this a very snooty receptionist would not allow us to have drinks there, due to having to then have to 'clean the table after our use' and there being not enough staff to do this. I'm pretty sure she would have been more than capable of wiping down the table herself after our use. I find this unfathomable when this type of business has been closed down for so long due to covid. Should they not be welcoming more business with open arms.
Very poor customer service......

Last minute booking for a short break in the Cotswolds.
We chose well. Hotel has a lovely olde world charm about it.
Staff - without exception - were wonderful. Couldn’t do enough for you.
Food very good, enormous breakfast.
Gardens extremely well kept
Maybe a few sun beds in the garden would be nice so you could relax with a book and a drink (weather permitting, we were lucky weather was great)
Would definitely stay here again
Very COVID friendly

We chose Stow Lodge in Stow on the Wold for our stay in the Cotswolds in part because it had ground floor accommodation available, in a cottage across the lawn from the main lodge, which was formerly the Rectory of a well-known church, and partly because the lodge was set back from the main square, yet near shops, restaurants and pubs. (Our cottage, No. 30, was about 180 pounds B&B, VAT included.) It was larger than most rooms, with a living area, sleeping area with king bed (a bit soft), a small sitting room and a front patio overlooking the back of the lodge.
Stow may not be the quaintest or most charming of the Cotswold villages, and the main Square is being taken over by a larger and larger parking lot. However, it is handy to be able to easily walk to attractions such as the medieval St. Edward's Church, Grade I listed with its remarkable door flanked by huge yew trees, and to places to shop and eat and drink. Stow is handy to visit other nearby villages, if you have a car or can spring a pretty penny for a hire taxi.
As to Stow Lodge, it is the kind of places that just looks and feels very, very English. Indeed, although it was high season for tourism (August 2023) nearly all the guests appeared to be British. Besides us, there was one apparently American family and one evening a group touring in vintage Bentleys stopped for the night (one of the Bentleys, a 1929 4 1/2-liter, was owned by an Australian.) This Bentley surely would bring 300,000 pounds or more if offered for sale. Most of the guests, like us, were, shall we say, older?
Nearly everyone staying the the small lodge had dinner in the very English dining room (think roast beef on Sunday, fried whitebait for appetizers, and roast lamb). You could have a drink in the bar or the in the sitting room with overstuffed leather sofas, but dinner started exactly at 7 pm. The room came inclusive of a full English breakfast, with eggs either fried, scrabled or poached, served promptly at 8 am.
Service at this family-owned inn was friendly, cheerful and efficient.

Yes, I stayed in a ground floor room there.
Unfortunately no public transport so would need to book a taxi to and back from Chipping Campden. Would advise to book taxi on arrival at the hotel if staying.
Room 4 is overlooking the garden and the entrance to the Inn. Very nice and good size.

Smithville, Ohio, United States17 contributions3 helpful votesWhat are the bathroom facilities? Private or shared?
WOW. I don't mean to offend you but you must know this is a 5 star hotel/Inn. There are absolutely no shared bathroom facilities anywhere in the civilized world with an above 1 star rating. The Stow Lodge is a top shelf Inn. I can assure you their rooms are clean, comfortable and their bathrooms are as well.
