We had a lovely stay here at The Porch House for our Honeymoon. We were welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco in our huge and very nice bedroom.
There was a lot of space in the bedroom to relax with a living area as well as a bedroom area. There was a romantic bath in the room but also an ensuite with a shower.
The restaurant was great and reasonably priced and we were treated to a glass of champagne and a lovely platter of desserts to help celebrate our honeymoon.
The bar is also very welcoming and comfortable and we felt very clean and safe during different times.
We were lucky to get one of the three parking spaces but I wouldn't have wanted to try and find one nearby if we didn't as the roads were very busy.
Over all - a lovely stay and I would definitely recommend to stay here if you are visiting Stow!

(also, opposite is the Sheep, they are the sister hotel and we had a fab wood fired pizza here)

Really enjoyable 1 night stay with our 8 month old baby. We were really lucky as the Porch Inn had recently received a fantastic refurb so our room was immaculate and very nicely done, refreshed but still traditional with nice little touches such as the old books scattered around the room. The dinner further added to our enjoyable stay, including the best Camembert we have ever had as a sharing starter with A LOT of mini brioches + also delicious apple crumble (again large 'sharer' portion!) Top marks to one of the managers Ash as well, who went out of his way to make us feel very welcome.. taking time to talk to us about the fantastic history of the pub, the beer, food and area! ...Having worked in a similar pub before, his efforts were noted and also very much appreciated. We will definitely be back.

We stayed here for our 30th wedding anniversary. The staff were all helpful & professional, the hotel was lovely and the room couldn't have been nicer, we stayed in room 8 which was almost like a suite. However there were a number of issues that disappointed us. While we understand the restrictions due to Covid, some appeared unnecessary. We were given a paper bag with tea, coffee, toiletries & were told to ask for anything we needed. No biscuits, bottle of water, bottle of wine, no 'extras' at all. No mini fridge so had to go down to reception whenever we wanted fresh milk for tea or coffee. No phone in the room to phone reception, though the only phone number took you through to a central number for the chain of hotels & that was only open office hours! In the bar we were told they had run out of lemonade (in a 5 star hotel??), I heard someone else told they had run out of brandy, also wholemeal bread! All very disappointing for a 5 star hotel. To end on a positive note, the location was ideal with free parking available very close by.

Do not eat here!!!! Winter tart is a disaster. The chefs have no idea how to combine taste and look. For £30 you can get a cold, tiny steak that is not cooked correctly as asked and some frozen peas and broccoli. We never received what we asked for and of course, it’s seems to be a constant with this place, an apology. We received steamed raw/hard carrots as an apology and we sent them back. No warm butter or sauce over the carrots, just steamed hard carrots!! Thus was NYE and we were the first there and to order so the chef Jamie was not under any pressure! It was an awful experience! Do not go there, believe me, I’m telling the truth. Photo below shows what £30 gets you for a meal. I would not put a plate like this together at home, tasteless food!!

We have passed The Porch House many times but for reasons unknown have never stepped inside. However, we decided to put matters to right and booked for lunch on a warm Summers day. We were seated comfortably in the conservatory, close to an open door with cooling airflow. Service from Catherine and her colleague was excellent and we both chose Steak Frites, served rare. . The quality of the beef was excellent and the chef cooked it exactly to our liking. Full marks! We were feeling fairly full so we shared a Pannacotta which was excellent. With soft drinks our bill came to £37.00 which was good value for a satisfying meal. We live nearby so we will definitely return!

We booked a Superior room for 2 nights at a cost of £350. I called 4 hours in advance to request a bottle of prosecco (at £25) be placed in our room to surprise my other half as it was our anniversary. Upon arrival, there was no prosecco. Ok not a problem, I thought I had just left it too late.

Our room was nice, although missing many of the usual things that you would expect from even a basic hotel. No where to store your clothes, no where to hang your coats, no hand towel for the bathroom, no fridge for the 1 bottle of water that was provided. All we got was a paper bag containing some tea, coffee pods, 4 small portions of milk and some sugar. I appreciate COVID is an issue, so I understand that certain items may be removed, but this was still not good enough from a so called 5 star hotel. The cold water tap was also broken, and you can only use the "free WiFi" if you effectively agree to sell your personal data to heineken and confirm you are happy to receive marketing ads.

So I was a little frustrated, at this point, but hey ho. So when we returned to our room after a day out, I fancied a coffee, but we had no milk left, and only the dirty cups we had used in the morning. So I went downstairs and kindly requested some water, some more milk, and some clean cups. "Of course" I was told. 3 hours later, nothing, so when going out for tea, I had to ask again. Second time round, there were some clean cups in our room when we returned.

On our morning of leaving, I went downstairs to have some breakfast. Tuns out its not included. The coffee and orange juice I ordered was charged to my room. Another £6.20. This is unacceptable for a 5 star hotel charging £350.00 for 2 nights.

Upon leaving the hotel, we drove past a sign for "Fleece Alley". I laughed and commented that it felt we had just stayed there, not a 5 star hotel. Unfortunately my partner agreed.

My husband and I were staying nearby so booked a table at The Porch House to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary.
The staff went above and beyond to make the evening special for us, we arrived to a complimentary glass of bubbly each and on our table was a handwritten anniversary card from the staff - what a lovely surprise and touch.
My husband ordered the king prawn and chorizo linguine, I ordered the dry aged 14oz sirloin steak on the bone. I told Sarah our lovely waitress that I was fussy with any fat on my meat, she relayed this to the kitchen and I received a very lean steak that was tender, perfectly cooked and extremely tasty, my husband loved his linguine which had a generous amount of prawns in it.
Another surprise when our deserts arrived, Sarah put down a plate wishing us a happy anniversary in chocolate with a portion of ice cream.
We were made to feel very special all everything and the staff were all very friendly and efficient.
Regarding Covid - this was the first meal we had anywhere since lockdown restrictions had lifted that made us forget the strange time we are living in, the tables being socially distanced was not obvious in the intimate pub so it felt very normal.
We felt very safe during the meal and the facilities were extremely hygienic with ample anti-bac to use.
A special thank you to Sarah for making us feel so special, we can’t wait to return when next in the Cotswolds

My wife & I made a last minute decision to visit the Cotswolds for new years eve. We found the Porch house website & both the hotel & Stow on the wold looked idyllic for a short break. It really is a lovely small, quaint country Inn with rooms. The pub is apparently the oldest in England. We had a great time, & we do recommend the Porch house & will stay there again. Perhaps not in room 4 which is described as a small double. Its very small, the shower is particularly small! The room rate reflected it was new years eve so I was disappointed with the room as it didn’t reflect great value. The rooms & hotel are very clean , breakfast excellent. The new years eve party was good fun. The menu/ restaurant looked very good but the website didnt tell us that it was fully booked that evening ( it was new years eve). I did ring that morning to check to be advised it was all booked so we found a lovely restaurant 4 minutes away in the Stag Inn. After the meal we returned to the Porch House to continue the celebrations in a lively bar with music. We were a bit disappointed that the bar shut 12.15 even as residents we couldn’t get another drink. Overall we had a really good time in a quaint old Hotel in a lovely part of the world, 75 minutes from our home. Do give the Porch house a visit just not room 4 on New Years eve.

Stow is beautiful with lots of interesting shops. The hotel building is quirky.
The staff is friendly apart from the manager who asks how everything is, but has no interest whatsoever in the answer. The room was ok but the door of the room doesn t lock. There are no curtains in the entrance so light comes into the bedroom. The bathroom needs to be redone, with a single sink, toilet and particularly shower that only produces warm water and the handle doesn t hook up properly. The lighting in the room is strangely wired and some bulbs dont work. Breaksfast was ready made very basic but ok, but the food in the evening was really bad. So all in all, I dont think we ll be coming back again. What a shame.
