Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here for the first time with my two dogs, such a beautiful hotel. staff went above and beyond with making us feel welcome. Breakfast was done lovely and even offered the dogs sausage. Bed and room was comfortable but too warm and couldn't cool it down. Village around was also very welcoming. Thank you for the most beautiful weekend.

Very nice, old, full of character. Good central location, has its own free car park with limited spaces, top tip, follow satnav to library if you want the car park. Very nice spacious room, comfortable bed and a quiet night; so a good sleep. Good shower and bath. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. My only grumble was the very warm temperature in our room, I couldn’t see a way to alter the temperature which would have made for a more comfortable sleep.

The Close Hotel is a delightful old and nicely modernised Cotswold building right in the middle of the town of Tetbury. Our 'superior' room, which was up a short flight of spiral stairs, was spacious, double-aspect, and very well appointed, with a comfortable, extra-large bed and a nice view over the lovely garden. A nice feature of the room was that it had its own entrance lobby which gave us a feeling of being comfortably away from other rooms. There was plenty of storage and hanging space for the few days we were there. There was a coffee machine and a top quality selection of coffee, teas with real milk(!), as well some tasty chocolate and oaty treats. The bathroom was spacious too and had large supplies of Molton Brown toiletries and an excellent, powerful shower over the bath. There could have been more surface space in the bathroom for our own belongings, however. Hotel staff were always friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were delicious and staff were very flexible with menu items. The dinner menu was excellent, if quite pricy, and we ate there on two occasions. On the second night, the dining room was very busy and we felt that more front of house staff would have been helpful on that occasion. Tetbury is conveniently located for days out around the Cotswolds. Overall, we would both highly recommend The Close Hotel to anyone who wants a comfortable short break in the Cotswolds, and would happily return there in the future.

Quintessential renovated village centre classy country house pub with rooms. Right in the centre of beautiful and historic Tetbury, but tucked away with a lovely garden with fountain and luminous green grass. The team were brilliant, friendly and efficient - particularly Benjamin in the bar and restaurant who really went above and beyond to make our stay sing. Bedroom comfortable and and big claw foot bath with a G&T was the perfect arrival treat! Would love to come back.

Back for 3rd visit. So it can't be too bad! Room OK. Top floor to avoid noise from above. Except it's noise from below! And 6.45 am alarm call as dustmen remove bins. Last year the Chapel was being restored. 12 months on and it's still being restored. So just back to sleep after bin men and then it's power tools at 08.00 am. Man on desk not too sympathetic (work needs doing etc.) but rather misses point this is a holiday destination not a business hotel. So we want lazy mornings. Bed OK. Cleanliness OK. Bathroom OK. Bedroom in attic so ceilings a bit low - plus gloomy decor. Go for big rooms in main building if you can. Breakfast good. Supper good but fixed menu means you might get a bit bored after 3 days. Not sure it's great value for money compared to similar European hotels but maybe that's high English wages and overheads. I'm sure we'll go again but other hotels give me a warmer feeling.

Dear W5873XGsimonc Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. I am sorry about the early morning during your stay. Sometimes we have to do repairs, we would rather not do, to keep our beautiful old building in a good shape. Again, please accept our apologies. Hope to see you soon so we can make it up to you. This is an excellent hotel with great staff who were very friendly, accommodating and willing to engage. Our room was very large and comfortable and overlooked the garden. The only problem was the food throughout our stay was not so good. We had a sandwich on arrival and it was Hovis sliced bread. For a hotel of this standard and the cost of the sandwich it should have been served with quality artisan bread. They do bake bread and serve it with the evening meal, and there are two bakers within 50 metres of the hotel so why do they serve sandwiches on supermarket sliced bread. The batter wasn’t crispy on the fish and chips so spoiled that meal. The beetroot main course was a tiny portion so we had to supplement it with chips. The scrambled eggs for breakfast were very runny, not really cooked enough, and the sausages were ok but nothing special. We would return to the hotel but probably wouldn’t eat in the restaurant as there are better options locally.

Booked the overnight dine, stay and save option in a superior double room. The room was a good size, with a view over the rear garden. Very clean, and nicely furnished. The bathroom was also spacious. The bed was vey comfortable. The food in the restaurant, both dinner and breakfast, was very good and the staff were very attentive. The hotel is an old historic building, so there is no lift to the upper floors. May be an issue for some, but thankfully not us. Drinks were on the expensive side, especially in comparison with some of the local competition (30% cheaper for the same order), and the choice of beer was disappointing given the heritage of the owners. So, the local competition, a stroll away, gets our vote in this regard.

Stayed with the kids - the hotel and its staff were delightful. Very charming blend of a traditional Cotswolds setting with chic decor. Rump steak and chocolate custard were nice dinner options but the breakfast was especially delicious. Highly recommended.

We honestly couldn’t have wished for more! We stayed for three nights to celebrate my Mum’s 80th birthday. The kindness and courtesy we were shown by all the staff at The Close was above and beyond. During our visit we enjoyed an absolutely delicious lunch and an unforgettable birthday tea and on both occasions we were given the space to really take our time and enjoy the celebrations. A great big thank you to everyone that worked so hard to make my Mum’s special birthday one we will never forget!

I left feeling rested & so well looked after! We stayed at the Close Hotel for 3 nights & would have added another had it not been for work next day. When we arrived we were allocated a room we were dissatisfied with due to some noise from the fire doors banging shut in the night - we later found out this was due to an intoxicated guest & it was no fault at all of the hotel. As soon as we shared our concerns the next morning we were given another room - more stunning & with a beautiful garden view - & very quiet! The facilities in this place are spot on, the atmosphere is relaxing & welcoming; the hotel building & decoration is stunning - & best of all, nothing is too much trouble for any of the lovely staff who also made our little dog Peanut feel as welcome as we did (sausage at breakfast & so many cuddles)! We will definitely return to explore the Cotswolds further & we will only stay at The Close!
