Detailed Reviews
We contacted the Priory Inn inTetbury some weeks in advance of a planned stay for a booking of 16 people. The hotel management was extremely helpful and confirmed arrangements swiftly.
Our groups arrival at differing times was no issue and all of us were very warmly welcomed. Booking in was very smooth and our rooms were all very well appointed, clean and comfortable.
After our various long journeys, we all settled in to watch the rugby with a warm open fire roaring away!
The dinner service was extremely easy, although a rather limited menu, the food was excellent and we can certainly recommend the wood oven pizza!
We all had a great night's sleep... Considering storm Clara was hard at work outside!
The breakfast on Sunday was earlier than planned due to our travel plans, which the hotel covered. The breakfast was fabulous and the full English was great!
A big thank you to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable!

I've never been here before but found it beautiful, clean and freshly renovated. I had the best night sleep in their huge bed. In the morning there was a wide range of teas and coffee for us to make ourselves in our room. I'm Vegan so had options on the menu which included both soy and almond milks for breakfast and a great pizza for dinner. My partner is not vegan, he had loads of food to choose from including everything from matured steaks and pizzas. He opted for the wagyu burger, nothing left on our plates when we had finished. We loved the place and would definitely go back again. PPE was worn by all staff at all times and hands were washed and sanitised regular. Loads of parking, short walk into town and a great starting point to explore the cotswolds.

Rooms been refurbed and modernised since the pictures on here and website, walls are grey and lovely furnishings!
On first night we ate in the restaurant, shared the chateubriand, requested rare but was more medium but understand it’s difficult with such big piece of meat so no huge complaints. On day we were out from 8 right through until 9pm rooms were not serviced, not even fresh towels which is all we really cared about. However, very apologetic and felt it had all been sorted to how we would expect so we were happy!
Although we had a couple problems, we felt that Tom had sorted and redeemed themselves straight away and was the best there. Can definitely tell the difference amongst staff when he isn’t there (which isn’t a good thing)...
Overall though, I potentially would go back as we did have a generally good stay!

I called up and booked in for our stay on the Cotswolds, I spoke to a lady and asked if I could book a table for dinner too for the night we were staying.
Upon arrival there was a sign saying reception is not manned. A lady spoke to us and said someone will be with you soon.
After a time someone else came and asked if we were ok, the lady said to the staff member that they had spoken to someone to come and see us but if they want to chase him along they could, so not off to the best start only having one person who can check you in.
Upon checking my dinner booking, after some hesitation it seems that my request On the phone wasn’t completed and they hadn’t booked us a table. They said we might not be able to have our 6:45 time we may have to wait til about 7. That’s fine I was happy with that, so at 7 we went to get our table, our name hadn’t been put down for a table and we had to wait whilst someone found us a table.
So now we get to the room, our room was checked and said it had been cleaned, however there was bits on the floor and table in the room, so not quite what I would call clean.
The room was a bit tired especially for £100 for the night, broken blind, dripping tap in the shower, and a general tired look to the room, when sorting the bedding in the morning it was clear the mattress was tired and stained.
The window was open upon arrival and the room smelt of smoke which was coming out the back, for some reason half an oil drum of wood or something burning away giving that room a smokey smell so we had to shut the window.
There was lots of noise until around 10:30pm i can only think our room was above the kitchen as there was loads of banging and loud noise.
In the morning, again nobody on reception to ask us how our room or stay was, when sat for breakfast nobody still asked how our stay was at all, not even on check out.
This really doesn’t give a good experience for the customer, I don’t think we would come back and stay. It seems customer service definitely isn’t on the top
Of the agenda sadly.
The room should’ve been about £80 tops.
Food was good in the restaurant so it’s worth coming for a meal but that’s it.

Tonight was the first time visiting the priory since it has been under new management and wow what a difference it’s made! We visited as a party of 4 adults, 2 children and a baby, on first impressions it was really welcoming and a lovely friendly atmosphere even with the current circumstances all the staff were really attentive and service was exemplary. The refurbishment has brightened the seating area and all the tables and chairs are really well spaced and most importantly no longer sticky, old and dated!
The steak was AMAZING it cut like butter and you could tell the quality of the steak from the first mouthfull, the peppercorn sauce and chips complemented it perfectly! The children had pizzas but from the pizza menu and they were huge! Food arrived quickly and piping hot. We were asked on several occasions if we needed anything giving plenty of opportunities to order more drinks etc.
The outside seating area is equipped with lovely big tables, umbrellas and really comfortable rattan arm chairs. We all had a wonderful evening and will be sure to revisit again soon!
If anyone was left disappointed with the priory under the old management honestly go back now and retry it you will not be disappointed it will be a completely opposite experience.
Thankyou to the team working tonight (5th August)

The Priory Inn is a 5 minute walk to the centre of Tetbury.
We arrived on Wednesday evening, about 10pm and were both quickly greeted and booked into our room 13 for the evening.
The room was lovely and very well equipped having plenty of wash facilities and tv and coffee too.
The large wall hung wide screen television was excellent and offered plenty of channels and there was a booklet in the room which tells you about the things to do in the area as well as the pub menu.
As for my nights sleep I did not wake once until 5.30 am and the bed was extremely comfortable.
We liked the shower which was a walk in and there was also plenty of storage too.
Breakfast was good and there is a large outside seating area that is attractively lit up at night.
An enjoyable stay in a lovely Inn.

We had a voucher to use in town for an afternoon tea so we decided to make a trip of it and booked here for the night. It is a lovely, friendly place. The room was comfortable and clean - if I had one criticism it would be that the room needed a bit of freshening up - nothing major, just a lick of paint. There was the added bonus of an air conditioning unit in the room which was very convenient as we probably chose one of the hottest nights of the year to stay!
It was pizza night at the hotel restaurant and the pizzas we ordered were very tasty and the full English breakfast in the morning was very nice.
The staff were very friendly and helpful every step of the way - especially Haley who made us feel very welcome.

We stayed for one night and enjoyed dinner in the lovely spacious restaurant, I felt completely at ease and relaxed with all the Covid-19 rules in place. The food was very yummy, I had a super steak and posh truffle chips! The salted caramel ice cream finished off my meal perfectly! My cooked breakfast in the morning was also great, with all the trimmings and loads of toast. We were able to make use of the new government scheme (eat out to help out) this meant our meal was extremely good value too! All the staff were super friendly and made us feel very relaxed and welcome. The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed, I slept like a baby all night. In general the hotel decoration is beautiful, I loved the planting in the beer garden and the artwork in the newly decorated lounge. It all felt very cozy and welcoming. Overall a perfect stay and I would definitely stay here again!

We came to this pub to celebrate the passing of a friend, we looked online to check if they accommodated for people with gluten-free allergies. We were told they had no pizza bases that were GF left, which was totally fine, and I let the other proceed with the order and I just planned to skip the meal.
We were told they were going to try and find a base after us already waiting 40 mins for the food and me accepting to miss this meal. Fairplay to them if they did send someone to try and find a base, but what follows is totally out of order and was personally embarrassing to be a part of.
After another 50mins to an hour of waiting for the remaining pizzas to arrive, the servers are completely oblivious to the situation going on and did not have a clue what was happening with the 'staff finding a pizza base' and yet had no communication as to what the situation was. (waiting for over an hour and half at this point)
Following this, another staff came out and handed me a salad. A salad I did not ask for, did not want, and for the server to say 'that's why no one wanted to bring it out then' and just walked off like it was fine is honestly appalling. And as what was a big group it made me feel like a bad customer for having an allergy which is totally outside of my control. This embarrassed me even more than what happened in the first place on what was already a sad occasion.
Overall this ruined all of our night so thank you. If you are gluten-free I recommend you avoid it. Rude staff, appalling communication, waiting times, and awful selection of food. Even if the whole meal was free I would still be appalled by how they spoke about me. AVOID.

Booked as a last stop after a week away staying in a yurt. From the beginning we had a bad feeling when they asked for payment up front. We then booked a table for evening dinner and went up to our room. Room 16 was nicely presented and the beds comfy. That’s where the good ends. It was overlooking a yard and old oil store. The roof to the left of the window is home to a large extractor that runs until 11:30pm. It sounds like a jet engine. The kitchen staff (many) clear down from about 10pm and spend this time throwing trays around and shouting to one another from opposite ends of the yard. Oscar put in a lot of effort according to David. Others heard Swearing and laughing until midnight when the last of them left. The restaurant looks great at first glance but then we started to notice things like bags of rubbish left next to the bar. There was more staff than guests and they all seemed to congregate around the bar area. Hiding behind a wall. To be fair the girl who looked after us was good but other diners weren’t so lucky. One couple who ordered at the same time as us only got their food after we had finished 2 courses. It certainly wasn’t busy and not due to the lack of staff…
Sleep was impossible before midnight.
We woke at 7am with the start up of the jet engine / extractor unit. We left our room to be once again greeted by the bags of dirty linen that was left there the previous day. We made our way down stairs in the hope that breakfast was going to be better. We were sold the idea of a continental breakfast but on arrival told there was no fruit because they hadn’t had a delivery. Therefore, continental breakfast consisted of cereal (how very continental!!) we decided on the full English and veg full English. The latter was the full English minus any meat. The eggs only just cooked, coffee Luke warm (thankfully I’d got my own cup from the next table as we only had one. Didn’t have any side plates for the toast and had to ask for the advertised orange juice. I gave up at this point, pulled the serviette off the sticky pint marks on the table, decided not to use it and left.
It’s like someone is trying their hand at hospitality! It really needs someone to go in and give the place a kick up the backside. The staff hide behind a wall and avoid interacting with the guests as all. Seemingly taking turns to do a timed lap of the floor taking care not to make any eye contact. It’s a shame because it could and should have been lovely for £150 a night! I’ve had better experiences for £70 a night!
Pics attached, poo bag had been there the day before…. Linemen bags outside our door on arrival and still there the next day, cleaners cupboard propped open (no cleaner) rubbish bags kicking about the main entrance and foyers.

Response from Maxine Shand-Sanders, Guest Services / Front Office at The Priory Inn Hotel, Tetbury
Responded 27 Jul 2021
We welcome customer reviews as this helps us understand both our strengths and weaknesses, however, after reading your review not only am I lost for words, I profusely apologise. Without doubt it’s only right that I go through all the points and observations you made and I will start with the rear of the hotel. I have instructed our maintenance staff to inspect the extraction unit and see if any component parts are loose or if there is anything else they notice that could be contributing to the excessive noise, if they can’t find anything I will arrange for an external company to come out and inspect the unit and ask if there is an acoustic solution to reduce the noise. All the kitchen and bar staff have been briefed that after they have cleaned down and put the waste outside, at approximately 10pm, the rear of the hotel is to be a quiet zone. Regarding your observations relating to housekeeping issues, the Front of House Manager and the Housekeeping Manager have been spoken to about the unacceptable standards you witnessed of waste not being removed in a timely fashion, the laundry bags left in the corridors and packaging in the reception area. There is no excuse for this and it falls below both our standards. During these challenging times is has been difficult to access the number of staff required on each shift as the pandemic has altered the footfall and so we err on the side of caution and over resource at the moment. You will of noticed that the majority of our serving staff are quite young and all of them live locally. We are keen to help the younger residents of Tetbury by offering employment, which for many is their first job. As you will be aware, building up confidence is a skill set that develops over time and we have regular training sessions with our serving staff, to take part in food tasting with our Head Chef discussing the ingredients in the hope this increases there confidence in explaining the menu to guests. We also go through the wine menu and advise them as to the different types of wine and what ones compliment a dish, (obviously they aren’t allowed a tasting session). We find that they all develop at different stages and we have become aware that since we have increased staffing levels they have a tendency to group together and congregate in the bar area. The Front of House Manager is going to identify the more confident employees and encourage them to act as a mentor for the more reserved employees, with the intention of developing a customer rapport. Finally your breakfast experience which fell dismally short of expectations and our normal standards. During the pandemic we have had to change with the restrictions from breakfast on a tray outside residents rooms, to continental breakfast but with table service and finally to buffet and English breakfast. And whilst we did experience some delivery delays, none of this should of impacted our service. We have recently reviewed our continental breakfast and have introduced a variety of choices, we acknowledge that the vegetarian breakfast was inadequate and additions have been added. The Cotswold Suite has become the designated Breakfast room where the tables are laid out and all required crockery and cutlery are in situ. If we receive any complaints they are fully investigated as then we can understand what and where we need improvement, your comments and photographs, show you had every right to complain. When reviewing complaints we look at each case individually and sometimes offer discounts to residents on future bookings, however, we have failed catastrophically during your visit with us, and a discount in this instance would be inappropriate. As a valued customer I would like to offer you a 2 night stay, for 2 persons, in the hotel free of charge and a 50% discount, for two persons, for a meal in our restaurant on both nights. In return I would be grateful if you would give us another chance to prove to you that we not only take customer complaints seriously but promise to ensure that you receive the high standard of service that we strive to achieve and that you deserve. If you would like take up our offer please could you send your contact details to prioryinn.customerassistance@aol.com. and I will send you your voucher. Thank you

Yes :) if you ask at the bar they will give you a bowl of water too :)
We are delighted to welcome all our customers regardless of disability. We have recently redesigned and rebuilt our front access and gardens to eliminate steps and barriers to disabled guests to our hotel and restaurant.
Hotel bedrooms
We have four ground floor rooms and there are no steps between the car park and the ground floor rooms. Due to the age of our building and space restrictions, our ground floor rooms do not have sufficient turning radii and our bathrooms do not have the normal rails and equipment for our disabled customers. You need to step up into the bath to take a shower.
Bar / restaurant
Our restaurant is on the same ground floor level as the four bedrooms. There are two steps from the restaurant to the bar but we are delighted to serve drinks at our restaurant tables or in our guest lounge at any time we are open to the public.
Again, due to space restrictions and the age of our building, our public toilets do not have rails or a turning radius suitable for wheelchairs.
Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to call us.
L Kidner,
Sorry this is a delayed answer - we aren't used to Tripadvisor queries as they don't come through to reception in the normal way. Please use the email address on the website (I'm not able to post the address as Tripadvisor blocks it!) and our staff will answer all your questions (if they are still relevant).
Thanks for the interest.
T Kelly
