#2 of 2 inns in Winchcombe

Eat, drink and flop in historic Winchcombe. To some it's a pub, others a hotel. Situated at the heart of the village of Winchcombe near Cheltenham, this ‘restaurant with rooms’ (there are 11) offers the very best of British food and an excellent wine list. Visit the wine shop and try the famous sausages in the Wine & Sausage eating rooms. A perfect place to visit or stay if you love walking or visiting Cheltenham races. Each of the 8 en-suite rooms are individually styled and some have feature beds. In the Wine & Sausage eating rooms located on the inns ground floor they are passionate about real food, the great and simple British dishes that we grew up with. Ingredients are carefully sourced and wherever possible use local and regional farmers, growers, fishermen, producers, brewers and even winemakers. Just a few metres away from the inn you will find the scenic Cotswold Way and Gloucestershire Way footpaths. The Inn is also very popular with cyclists and can help with routes around the area, especially via one or two other 'watering holes'. There's even a hosepipe for washing down muddy bikes. Winchcombe is an idyllic base for touring the Cotswolds and the White Hart is the perfect bolt hole close to the famous sporting and cultural festival town of Cheltenham.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at the White Hart as it is dog friendly. Our room was not huge and a little dated but we were very comfortable and enjoyed our stay in this quirky old inn. It was very pleasant and cosy in the bar at breakfast and the food selection and quality was very good. An issue raised with management was quickly and satisfactorily resolved. We would definitely stay here again!

Spent a couple of nights at the White Hart with my wife. Stayed in a superior room which was wonderful. The staff were so friendly and helpful making us very welcome, we had evening meals on both nights and these were excellent, the cooked breakfast’s were some of the best I have ever eaten. An ideal base for visiting some picturesque Cotswold villages. We will definitely be returning.

So impressed, last-minute booking for a basic room, had the shared use of a fabulous shower-room, delicious supper that evening and full choice from breakfast menu the following day. Everyone could not have been kinder, totally exceeded our expectations. Thank you!

Stayed here with a friend while walking the Cotswold Way in September 2023. We were given rooms in the building next door which was ok but felt a bit unloved with delivery boxes lying about in the entrance/bar area. The rooms were ok but a bit tired as other reviews have noted. However I found the bed comfy and slept well. We didn't eat here as we had reservations at a restaurant. We also didn't have the cooked breakfast as we wanted to get away early, but the breakfast buffet was quite adequate. Overall, ok but would probably try elsewhere if returning to the area.

We went for afternoon tea on a buys gift voucher we received as a wedding present. The quality was nice but the quantity of food was very disappointing and didn’t feel like £35 worth. 4 small sandwiches, 2 scones, 4 small brownies between 2 of us plus a cup of coffee each. No way that’s £35 worth.

Dear Z4600DXLIAMR Thank you for your feedback I am sorry you did not feel the quantity offered was adequate. Gauging customers appetite is always difficult. As a rule if customers, enjoying a full afternoon tea require more tea coffee of sandwiches we are happy to accommodate with our compliments we have ensured that all staff are aware. Thank you for taking the time to write in

This Inn met all my needs for an overnight stay while walking the Winchcombe Way. Although walking on my own and there are single "Ramblers Rooms" available, I opted to pay for a double room as it had its own bathroom. This extra luxury was well appreciated after a full days walk. I made good use of the large corner bath for a good soak and my legs were not still when setting out for the second day's walk. Plenty of tea, coffee and chocolate in my room, with a large, comfortable bed. Check in and check out were quick and easy. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Real ales and food were very good, although I thought that the dessert was a rather small portion size for the price. Breakfast was very good and included by booking directly with the Inn. The only other slight negative was someone else's hair strands in the shower cubicle. I would stay here again.

Stayed for just 1 night, check in was at the hotel bar, and we were taken to an adjacent building to our room. The carpets in that building hallway are dirty, but didn’t seem that old, I think the issue being they were ones you’d have at home rather than hardwearing hotel type carpets. The room was small and just a bit tired, Ben linen was good, but curtains very tired and in need of washing. I would have probably given a 3 star had the bed been comfortable, we had a double bed but it was 2 single beds pushed together. The mattress was soft and cheap feeling and the worst part is when we laid on them we were both sinking to the middle join as if the mattresses weren’t flat/straight! We had the worst nights sleep possible. We paid £63 for 1 night and thank god we didn’t pay anymore. You can head the noise from the pub until 11, which is not the pubs fault but worth considering should you want to go to sleep earlier. We passed through the pub at breakfast time and decided to eat elsewhere. We wouldn’t stay again unless we were guaranteed a good standard of bed/mattress and would never pay more than £60 per night!

Dear Michelle 79/10 Thank you for your feed back on your stay at the White Hart Inn. The rooms in question are a new addition to the property and we are in the process of accessing where if appropriate upgrades need to be made, although I believe the rooms have all the amenities that one would expect from a room we also have complimentary tea, coffee hot chocolate & biscuits as well as White Company toiletries. I wish you all the best with finding good quality accommodation at your price point.

Unclean. Uncomfortable and couldn’t wait to leave. Left before breakfast as it felt like it was just not a place you wanted to spend time. Pub itself quite cozy but the landlord really does need to work on his social skills
