Detailed Reviews
I hadn’t heard about this place before and I was a little doubtful of what to expect.
However from the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome, the two young men on reception were extremely helpful and friendly.
The rooms are fairly basic but more than adequate, if I was being critical a slightly larger kettle as it was only able to boil one cup at a time. Also better quality pillows.
The views at the front were lovely and the chairs provided were comfortable and it was pleasant to sit and watch the world go by.
There is very limited parking which we were lucky enough to get a space.
Breakfast is off site and you buy a voucher at a cost of £5 pp it was an amazing breakfast and well worth the short walk.
It was a lovely stay in a great location. I will be booking again for November.
Thank you

Clean marble steps up to the front door; these will be very slippery when wet. Clean reception area with what looked like a bar area, although it was not manned at all.
I checked in with ease, given two cards for the room door, one of these is used to put into the slot on the wall next to the door to activate the electricity.
No food served on site. If you want breakfast you have to purchase a ticket for £12.95 from reception then take it to the Farm Kitchen approximately 5 minutes walk away.
If you want to travel out of the local area there is direct access to the local taxi just by pressing a button on reception and a taxi appears minutes later.
I was given room 9, on the second floor, three flights of stairs, no lift. It has a threshold step that I found coming out of the room. Looking at other rooms it appears to be the only one that has the step. The room very basic, and clean. There is a single bed, the mattress is very hard, and a shelf with the refreshments tray on it. There is no plug socket nearby so I had to put the kettle on the table next to the bed to use the plug socket there.
The front door is locked at 23:00 hours (11pm), so your room key is the front door key too.

Great service, excellent location on Southsea Common and clean rooms.
Rooms were rather small and sparsely decorated. Breakfast wasn’t included in the rate which I thought was a bit cheeky, they give you a voucher for a cafe round the corner.
Not a bad stay at all, just felt very expensive for what you get - I guess you pay for the location

We had a great stay and can not wait to return.
On arrival we were lucky to have a parking space - there are only two so this is not always available but there is paid parking available on the street.
We were allocated a room at the top of the hotel (luxury sea view) The view was amazing and worth the climb. It should be noted there is no lift, we were fine with this but if you don't like stairs book a room lower down.
The room was decorated in pale grey and white and was very calming. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were new and clean (no yellow stains or marks) The bathroom was white and sparkling clean and I am very fussy!
The team however made the stay extra special. The manager Yazan Mattar always welcomed us with a smile and was happy to go the extra mile to make our stay so special.
The gentleman on the reception overnight was also very friendly, as were the team who cleaned the rooms.
The coffee room downstairs is a great space but we did not have time to use it. We did however go for breakfast which is in a great café with good coffee. The £5 breakfast is good as the meals are over £7
A great stay, thank you to the team.

We stayed here for the weekend and loved it. Our windows overlooked Southsea Common, a lovely place for a morning walk. We bought £5 vouchers for breakfast which we had at a cafe round the corner: breakfast was great and worth at least £10! The bed was comfortable and everything was at a very high standard. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, offering us free car parking, even on the day we checked out. This is a gem and we will be coming back. Great for visiting Gunwharf Quays.

I have never been so angry. We checked in to this hotel and presented our bank card to pay for our stay and to organise car permits, to be told the cash machine does not work! As we didn’t have over £100 cash on us to pay we were told we could wait and pay on check out the next morning when leaving. So we had a nice day in Portsmouth and went back to our room to sleep to be woken up at 11.30pm by a tap on the door by the receptionist asking us if we can go out to a cash machine and pay for our room that evening instead of tomorrow as agreed. Who would do this? He told us that the Manager had rang him to ask him to collect our money now! What a horrible ending to our overnight stay. We will not be back for sure and do not recommend this hotel to anyone else either.
On top of all that we had to check out at 11.09am and received a call at 10.55 asking us where we were..

Response from Boutique Hotel, General Manager at Q8 Boutique Hotel
Responded 5 Jul 2021
Hello Sir, thank you for the feedback, unfortunately what you are saying is not the truth. You was due to pay on arrival, an option you selected upon booking. However, our internal payment system was down, so we called you 2 hours before you checked in to inform you of this. You was offered to pay bank transfer or cash on arrival as an alternate. You opted to pay cash and your wife said when you finish golf, "you would pay later around 5pm" No problem. We let you check in as normal and we didn't see you again until 11.15pm, by which point you and the party you was with, ignored reception and went up to your room in an intoxicated state. Reception called the manager, as it still had an amber light on the system for an outstanding payment. My colleague gently knocked your door as you had only just got in 10 mins previously. You was wide awake fully dressed. Payment was then made. Upon a drunken argument, my reception staff then tried to calm the situation by offering you and all your family 4 free breakfasts worth £40.00 which you accepted instantly and enjoyed. You then come on here and portray a fabricated story for some bizarre reason. We welcome all feedback, positive and negative as it helps us learn and grow, but we will not accept lies. We wish you well. Kind regards Catherine Webb

We deliberately booked a family room, even though there was only the two of us, on the assumption that the room would be bigger than a standard double room, therefore, a little more comfortable and 'roomy'. How wrong we were, despite the website displaying a photograph, apparently showing the family room, with its two windows overlooking the common and the sea, the room we were given was a very basic twin room with a view of the neighbours back yards. When we spoke to reception about the room, we were told that it 'was' a family room, because they can squeeze another bed in there. Additionally, in the bathroom, there was grouting missing from between the floor tiles, the sealant around the bath was peeled away, and the toilet had barely enough 'flush' to shift a fart. The bath was massive though, which was one of the few plusses. But half empty shampoo and soap dispensers, really?, if I'd wanted to share facilities, I'd have gone camping.

Very nice refurbished and decorated, hotel.
Close to all amenities.
Friendly staff, wasn’t sure were to get breakfast from the following morning as they didn’t make this very clear. We ended up eating breakfast out.
The hotel is in a good location
And we would stay here again.
There was just a few things that I wasn’t happy about but managed to get by, these include
We couldn’t get the heating to work in our room we need to use it for a short while to warm the room up as it was cold and a cold night,
We couldn’t get the heated towel rail to work to warm the towels up,
There was no hand rail in the shower, and it got slippy !
We needed to tune the television in to get it working,
There was no bedside drawers just a small shelf,
We didn’t get told we’re to go in the hotel for meals !
And there is no accessible rooms for disabled guests.
Other than that it is a nice hotel and friendly staff.
I would recommend them putting a slip mat down the steps of the entrance to the hotel as the stairs are marble and slippy.

Just came from Portsmouth after staying in this lovely hotel with my family for one night. This is an amazingly clean and quiet hotel. The rooms are spacious, modern, spotless and the bathroom is so new! The location is ideal as it is facing a park, very close to the seafront and also to shops and restaurants. The staff are so so nice and polite and they even upgraded us free of charge to 2 adjoining rooms rather then one family room. I will stay there again every time I am back to Portsmouth.

I stayed at the hotel for 1 night on 16th July 2022, I was just in Portsmouth for the night for a friend's birthday. I booked a single room with en-suite and the room was absolutely perfect for what I needed. Beautifully clean and crisply decorated. It's in a great location to see all of Portsmouth and Southsea! The fan in the room was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated for one of the hottest weekends of the year! I'll definitely stay again when I am in the area! Thank you

Hello Jane,
There is on-street parking outside the hotel on Clarence Parade which would require payment at the parking meters. This is a busy road, but depending on the time of your arrival, you should be able to find parking.
We do offer parking permits on a first-come first-serve basis which allow you to park for free in many Portsmouth locations, including Clarence Parade and surrounding areas. This requires a £20 cash deposit which is refunded on check out, and a £5 per day fee to use the permit.
