Fantastic service from the the bar and restaurant team, shame there is constant food shortages but Gianbattista went out of his way to help find a suitable alternative, he was also very helpful at helping me chose the right gin and tonic, he is an asset to Holiday Inn l, every hotel needs a Gianbattista in it !!!

The location of this hotel was perfect as it is walking distance to Southsea beach. The hotel was modern and clean and staff were friendly. Our family room was spacious and the children enjoyed time in the swimming pool (also clean)

This was our first visit to this Holiday Inn hotel for an overnight stay. We booked a Premium room with a sea view getting a weekend rate of £95 which I thought wasn’t too bad. We did not have a bad stay but there are many areas of improvement needed. On arrival, parking is limited and spaces are narrow. Parking for 24 hours is £5 however the hotel will provide you with a permit for street parking with the same terms. Plenty of street parking opposite. Make sure you input the correct registration number at reception to avoid parking eye fines. The exterior of the hotel, apart from the Holiday Inn sign, does remind you of a block of council flats, however you are also just a few minutes walk from the sea. The area was generally quiet Check in was nice with friendly staff and nothing too much trouble. We welcomed as IHG club members also. Some sweets and water at reception was nice too. Our premium room was on the 5th floor (out of 6) accessed by a very tight lift(4 persons max) with 1 of the 2 lifts out of action. Our sea view was partial in that you had to move to the far right side of the room window to see it. The room was clean, but small with a standard double bed, and a very small bathroom. Be careful if you have mobility issues as it can be a challenge getting in and out of the bath/shower as it slopes down so grab so side rail when you get in or out to avoid slipping. Good powerful and hot shower with nice “soak” shampoo, shower gel and condition. Fairly high sink but tight all round. Flat screen tv with tea/coffee/filter coffee machine with biscuits. Standard tv channels. There was a room safe, hairdryer, bath robe and adequate towels. We had access to the mini fridge which had 2 cans of coke, 2 bottles of water, Kit Kat and a bag of crisps. We had a fairly good nights sleep however the room was warm and the window only opened partially with the air con non existent. The room was clean and adequate but not luxury. We wanted to use the leisure hot tub, however it was not working which was a shame. The bar was nice and we had a drink with plenty of seating and reasonable prices. Breakfast to purchase at reception is £12, on the day is £16.95. It is unlimited colds, full English, pastries, cereals, toast , coffee machine etc. It does look scaled back in terms of choice with no mushrooms and also no more food would be cooked until a tray of say sausages had run out. Staff needed to predict when food would be running out to avoid guests waiting 10 minutes for more sausages with the rest of their food getting cold. We probably won’t come to this one again. It was satisfactory but no wow, but really it all needs a refurb in very challenging times for hotels.

One of the worst holiday inn I have ever stayed in. My room needs a good deep cleaning. Bathroom was filthy, see picture. My wife ordered food at the bar around 10:30pm and she had to wait for an hour only to be told that the chefs have finished their shift and have gone home. Next morning a lady knocked on the door asking if we are ready to vacate the room. I specifically asked the reception when I checked in that I would like to check out at 1300 and the guy at the reception confirmed it. Clearly the reception staff needs to get their communication right. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

As a couple we have stayed at this hotel in the past a couple of times when visiting Gun Wharf Quays and the reason we came back to this hotel is because of the facilities and rooms. However on this occasion the visit just went from bad to worse and I would not at this time recommend the hotel as a booking! On arrival we were advised the facilities were under maintenence so we couldn't use them, we were advised that we would be charged £5 to park our vehicle over night. We went to the room and it was the tiniest room we have been in and the bathroom we couldn't shut the door unless we maneuvered ourselves around the tight space. That being said this is a niggle as we are happy to deal with this type of room for 1 evening. We went to dinner at 6pm and swiftly ordered a 3 course meal, the starters and main came out quickly which was nice and was substantial it tasted really good as well, a jug of water didn't arrive and we had too ask again for this after the main and then the dessert well for a slice of lemon tart and pear and ginger cake took an age and we finally received this at ten past 8 which was a long wait, however I will say that others complained after waiting an hour for their main and it wasn't a busy restaurant. Normally we would provide feedback directly to the hotel but they didn't provide feedback forms in the room or at dinner! Breakfast I couldn't fault at all there was plenty of choice and the food was hot and monitored. Check out was easy but again no where to provide feedback direct and when I said dinner and facilities were not upto standard the concierge smiled at me and said yes. I would say that we would not return to this hotel in the future as they actively ask you to provide feedback and then do not provide the facilities for you to give the information.

This hotel is close to attractions ie Gunwharf Quay and the dockyards. However it is in need of further renovation. The room was ok and the corridors were clean and redecorated but the spa facilities were in need of a good revamp or scrub. Showers were awful and seat in the spa gritty!!

I read some reviews on here before staying, so wasn’t expecting much. On arrival the guy on reception was nice, friendly and helpful. My room itself (a standard double) was a good size, spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a stay. The bathroom was very modern and clean. The only problem I had with the room were… the kettle had yellow liquid in the bottom of it, nope I’m not using that.. I took it to reception and the nice man brought me up a replacement. The phone was also broken.. but didn’t need it, so that was returned to the receptionist. During the night, there was a lot of noise from traffic and people shouting outside that woke me up, but that is not really the hotels fault, maybe just old windows and the fact I was on the 2nd floor. The facilities at the hotel were very good. Food was very nice as was Katie our waitress. I would stay here again, but I’d ask for a room higher up and away from the road.

Good location. The hotel and room were not amazing but reasonable for the price. The reception and restaurant staff were helpful and polite. All was fine until we decided to use Health Club facilities. Some of the staff members in there were rude and downright hostile. Left in haste and never came back. Disappointing as specifically chose this place for its pool and gym.
