Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Don't stay here. Very noisy internally and externally. The place was never cleaned during my stay and the carpets were terrible. Staff not helpful. Dirty bathrooms and not kept up to standard as the general travel lodges. Won't stay here again

Lovely rooms and the size is great! I would have to say though the most outstanding part of our stay was easily the staff. They are so friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend if your looking for somewhere comfortable, affordable and welcoming.

The absolute best part and what makes this a definent place to stay at is the some of the staff. they are mostly all standouts when it comes to customer service. They have been more than helpful when it came to any issue and exhaust all possibilities to accommodate me and my family. They treated us more than just a passing guest and i saw one of them walking a newly checked in guest around to make sure the couple were as informed and comfortable with things as possible. Other hotels i have visited could learn from this hotels stella management team

The walls are so thin even at normal volume you can hear and understand your neighbour's conversation. My neighbour had tv on loud until 3:30 am and I had to be up at 7am to catch a ferry. everything else was adequate.

Response from Portsmouth Hilsea Manager, General Manager at Travelodge Portsmouth Hilsea
Responded 22 Jan 2024
Dear Neil M, I am sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your recent stay. While we do carry out regular patrols at night to ensure none of our guests are being too loud, we also understand that some people's hearing can be more sensitive than others. Had you have brought this to the attention of our dedicated team, we would have endeavoured to find a solution for you. I do hope this experience doesn't impact any future decision to stay with us.

Telephoned the day before our visit to explain my requirements. Alex was absolutely superb in finding a room which was suitable. Upon arrival, she greeted us and showed me (very patiently) how to log in to the Travelodge internet. Lovely room, comfortable bed and a good night's sleep. Have visited before, will do so again. Thank you.

I would thoroughly recommend this particular Travelodge as being very clean and comfortable, with little or no noise around and excellent staff. will always use this hotel when in the area. The tea & coffee in the room is a nice touch, as is the extra tea & coffee etc, available int the lobby.

Travelodge Hilsea is a ‘belts and braces’ hotel. The beds are relatively comfy, but the pillows could be refreshed. The walls are thin, so you can join in with your neighbour’s conversations easily. The pay-for WiFi can be difficult to access easily, but the receptionist should be able to help you with a work around.

All of the staff were welcoming and efficient. The rooms were very clean and the knowledge of the local area was useful. A toby inn next door was convenient and the parking was good, I would recommend Portsmouth Hilsea to everyone.
