Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I’ve booked two nights stay at the Mayview Guesthouse here are the pros: -Nice, clean rooms -Peaceful environment, quiet residents -fast broadband -walking distance from the city center, quiet area Cons: -I was struggling to use the cold water in the shower, it’s almost impossible to switch from hot to cold so I left without shower -One of the hosts came into my room without knocking while I was sitting on the bed reading, then profusely apologized -Cheap pillows, small mattresses Overall, good experience, nice place to stay if you are on a budget and wants to explore the city.

I gave this a 3 Star because the street didn’t look that desirable but the accommodation was very clean the staff from both B&Bs we had contact with were very friendly and helpful. Was only a short walk to town so don’t need to take the car which was a bonus. Also the lady doing the breakfast was very friendly and cooked us a great breakfast. Free spaces for cars on a first come first basis. If not a Secure parking space for £5 for 24 hours. I would give 5 Stars to the room, Breakfast, and the Staff would definitely use them again.

As a touring wrestler I’m travelling most of the year and finding places to stay. Such a brilliant bnb! Super welcoming and the breakfast is incredible. Your staff are an asset to your hotel. Will definitely be back!

I was required to work away from home once a month from July 2020 to February 2021 and needed a cheap, cheerful, friendly, flexible and affordable room to stay over for in the working week. I was offered a very quiet and private double room with an on-suite and basic extras in the room at the back of The May View which was ideal as it meant I could walk into the city centre for work. Staff were really helpful and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. I would strongly recommend this to any one who needs a place to work away from home. Although there is limited parking I did not find this problematic and often I could move the car onto the forecourt every morning from the street and park overnight on the street keeping my parking costs to almost nil. I also had a parking pass for a city centre car park which helped. The only downside was that internet was sporadic but for any one who wants this it was available in the kitchen without a difficulty. I am not very reliant on my Wi Fi so not too problematic for me. I want to thank the staff for all there support and help over the last 6 months with trying to work away from home as a key worker and travelling back and forth. You are all super stars! I also had a chance to meet with the owner and he was a great guy and ensures he has good people working for him. Very good value for money.

Stayed here for 2 nights just before Xmas as was visiting the hospital. Great pre check in communication from guest house staff informing of late check in process. Only faults there is no parking available and other guest house owners on the road are particularly nasty about the wrong spaces being used Guest house though was very clean and smart, as were the rooms. A great nights sleep in a safe feeling environment Great breakfast included in the price with a nice easy check out process Would recommend to anyone for a short stay

I attempted to book a room at the Mayview and was turned away over the phone. I explained that I was assisting someone to book the room as their support worker and was told they would have to come to the B&B to book so they could have a look at the guest in question and decide whether they would be likely to damage the room or not. I explained that the person in question was independent and would require no assistance whatsoever, and that they had the money to pay for their room. Despite this, I was told that they would not accept the booking as they were concerned the guest would cause damage. I found this extremely offensive and presumptuous considering the member of staff knew nothing about the resident and completely ignored me when I tried to explain they had nothing to worry about. I don't think it's acceptable for a business to demand to look at someone in person so they can decide whether they're a damage risk. People without disabilities aren't questioned to that extent and the person in question felt discriminated against due to their disability.

This B& B is located close to the Mayflower theatre but is still in a quiet part of what can be a noisy city, there is a large student population.. We had one twin room for myself and my daughter and a single for my sister. The rooms were bright and welcoming and were both located on the ground floor. There was a small shower and toilet room and a flat screen t.v. in each room, the beds were firm without being hard and the bed linen and towels clean.. Jacqui the lady who runs the place couldn't get any more welcoming and friendly. The full English breakfast is cooked fresh and there is also cereal and fruit available if required. In short this is a great place to base yourself for a stay in Southampton and is also only a 35-40 drive to Portsmouth. We did have an incident one morning when some other guests were leaving very early in the morning (5-30 ) & they were noisy enough to wake us up but when my daughter asked them to be quiet they complied and Jacqui was extremely apologetic and in fact gave my daughter a hug.
