Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent location for O2 Guildhall and exploring this interesting city. Rooms immaculately clean and comfortable. Special mention to the manager who was extremely helpful with any questions. The usual efficient and excellent Premier breakfast. Thoroughly recommend.

Hotel's Favourite
My 2nd stay at Premier Inn Cumberland Place and it was as faultless as the last time. Booked a 3-night stay with my best friend as a birthday treat and the absolute pluses were: + Welcoming and friendly staff + Lovely welcome treats (wine, soft drinks, chocs, balloons & handwritten card), in my room to celebrate my big birthday + Spotlessly clean room with bathtub and comfortable bed (most important features for me!) + Delicious dinner on the 1st evening (the steaks are cooked to perfection!) and good cooked breakfasts + Excellent value + Great location for Mayflower theatre and for driving into the New Forest + Handy & secure parking Little things to improve: - The friendly bar staff struggled to make the cocktails on their menu due to a lack of key ingredients on all 3 nights - Breakfast buffet was missing plain yoghurt (another “supply problem”) , muesli (and fruit salad on first morning) and fresh fruit was a bit limited in choice (no bananas, just apples and oranges) so I’d have been a bit disappointed if we hadn’t opted for the cooked breakfast. But overall this is an EXCELLENT Premier Inn and we’re already planning a return trip! Just stock that bar up, please!! 🙏

We returned from a cruise on Easter Sunday and stayed at Cumberland Place for two nights. Our train route was affected by engineering works over the holiday period so hung on in Southampton until normal service was resumed on Tuesday We were very pleased to be able to drop off our luggage in the Easter Sunday mmorning and do some sightseeing in central Southampton before checking at around 3pm at know extra cost. Our request for a quiet room was noted and we got a third floor room (305) overlooking a side street. We slept very well and the bed was great. In the room everything worked; and on room service supplied a missing second bath towel straight away The location is very good for the Hight Street and a lot were open on both Easter Sunday and Monday. We were on foot and gravitated towards the West Quay Shopping Centre which had numerous coffee shops. Reading the previous review we must have crossed with the reviewer without realising. I well remember the two boys playing football in reception while my wife and I were reading the Sundays Papers. We did suggest the boys might like to play in the park opposite to their supervising adult. However, this was not well received; and I could see both the desk staff fully engaged/ avoiding eye contact. We didn’t press it. Both nights we had meals in the restaurant which were fine. Restaurant staff were friendly and chatty. I recall there was no gravy on both days, and on day two they ran out of sticky toffee pudding. The apple pie was a fine substitute. This was our second stay at Cumberland Place and while our experience was perfectly acceptable, the roadworks outside mean waiting for taxis and moving suitcases around is more hassle than it might be. We see the scaffolding outside the Premier Inn at West Quay has now come down and we are more likely to give that a try next time we cruise.

We always rely on premier inns all over the country - I’d rate this one about average. Got to reception, nobody there, and the bell didn’t work - ‘it broke last night’ apparently…. Room was ok - paintwork a bit tired. The bathroom had mould all round the bottom of the glass screen….easily rectified with a cheap mould cleaner and 20 minutes work! The rest of the room was tidy enough. We got 1 big and 1 small towel (for 2 people!) so had to ask for another…little things, but they all add up. Maybe time for a refresh at this place…..

£91 for a nights stay for 2. Only 1 set of towels in the room. No phone to call down to reception and when we went down there wasn’t anyone available. Unable to open the window and the lowest the room went was 19 degrees so the room was uncomfortably hot so not a great sleep

The room itself was perfect bed was comfortable etc, perfect working shower etc. Customer service a lot to be desired. I wanted to do an early check in. I was sent to a room that was not fully serviced. I was going out anyway even though the guy who checked me in did offer to move me to another room. So I was happy to stay in that room as long as it was serviced once I returned. When I returned it was in the same state. The duty manager taking over give him his dues apologised and got me moved to a prepared room. Went for dinner three nights of my four night stay. They didn't have everything on the menu each night. The last night the duty floor manager he was also on Friday morning breakfast, the chairs and tables in the dining room had more personality. The Tuesday and Wednesday evening duty manager was pleasant and the ond who sorted out the room issue for me top marks for him. The young guy cooking the breakfasts on Thursday and Friday was probably the most friendliest staff member out of all. Costs nothing to smile and say goodmorning to customers and ask if theyve a busy day ahead, a lot of staff could learn from this. The general manager I think did to be fair if he served you. Would I go back, maybe for room only definitely. I know they class themselves as a budget hotel, nut higher end budget, budget or top class five star I would still expect friendly customer service.

Just had dinner here having checked in for one night prior to a cruise. They appear have cloned one phenomenal team member here and he is running the whole place like a machine! The staff are happy around him and so are the customers. But it doesn't stop there ... The food is great too. Stayed at West Quay last time and it's more convenient but as long as Raj is at Cumberland Place, that's where we will be staying. Well done, what a great start to our holiday.
