Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a wonderful stay! The room was lovely, full of original Victorian features and a big deep bath. It was really clean as well! Extra points for the sterling biscuits! Dinner was divine and so was breakfast, all the staff were so friendly and really cared about me and my stay. I really recommend this hotel, I am hoping I stay again.

I had a wonderful stay for work, the room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was great. The sirloin steak special was unreal. Will use the hotels parking for a cruise holiday upcoming this summer. I’d recommend Elizabeth house highly, thanks for a great stay!

During a difficult time when my wife was in the hospital, I stayed at Elizabeth House Hotel. This hotel stood out for its exceptional service and care, making my experience much easier than expected. The hotel is family-run, and it shows not just in the attention to detail but in how guests are treated. The staff, even those not related by blood, come together to create a welcoming environment, treating guests like family. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, providing a peaceful retreat. The housekeeping team deserves a mention for their efficient and unobtrusive service, ensuring my room was always spotless. Eating at the hotel’s restaurant and bar was a pleasure. The food was great, and the service was friendly and attentive. It was clear that the staff are dedicated to making sure guests have a good experience. Despite having stayed in luxury hotels worldwide, the personal attention and genuine care at Elizabeth House Hotel were unmatched. It’s rare to find such a supportive and friendly atmosphere in a hotel. Thank you to everyone at Elizabeth House Hotel for your kindness and excellent service during a challenging time. This hotel goes beyond just providing a place to stay; it offers a comforting presence when it’s needed the most. I’m grateful for the experience and look forward to visiting again under better circumstances.

This is our 4th or maybe 5th stay at the Elizabeth and it certainly won’t be our last. Hotel is spotless, staff are so helpful, breakfast is lovely and the site is so convenient. Perfect for visiting family and getting out and about in the city. Yes, there are stairs but there are rooms on the ground floor and we have never had a problem with parking even in the height of season

We stay at the Elizabeth House Hotel every time we visit Southampton and it never disappoints. We were back again this month and had a lovely time - the staff were friendly as always and the room was spacious and comfortable, great value for money. Had a great night’s sleep and enjoyed a complimentary cuppa and biscuits in the morning. There is plenty of parking as well if you’re coming from further away and I believe they also offer cruise parking. Have a chat with the team at reception if you have any questions, they’ve always been very helpful if ever we needed anything. Overall very happy - thanks again Jamie and team!

The staff were friendly and helpful and there were no problems with breakfast or parking. But... The bathroom door was very difficult to close. The catch on the door was on the point of failing. If these two items (advised to reception) are not fixed soon somebody is going to become trapped. The light over the basin did not work. The vinyl flooring was extremely badly fitted. Whilst not a problem to a guest perhaps it might be indicative of a slapdash approach by the hotel management. The TV remote control was faulty (it was the wrong brand) meaning several functions were unavailable. The mattress was very noisy. This sounds strange but just turning over made an extraordinary row. It was also very uncomfortable. We both had a very poor night's sleep and won't be staying at Elizabeth House again.

Welcomed by lovely front of house gentleman , in fact all the staff were lovely. Room was tiny, ok as a solo room but tight for two. All very ordinary but fine for a single night stay. Restaurant went with the rest of the hotel, not terrible but not very good either. I would use it again as a cruise stay over as it is better than equivalently priced budget brands.

Dear Guest Thank you for your review and I welcome your comments. I would highly recommend on your next visit to book a double room rather than a single room, as this will allow for the extra space you've highlighted. I very much look forward to welcoming you back to the Elizabeth House Hotel in the near future. Kind regards Edyta

On Thursday 30 November 2023 I made a call to the Elizabeth House Hotel. I asked if I could book a room for the following day but arriving early as we were returning from a cruise and our car had been parked at the hotel. I was told that would be fine by the receptionist. We said we would arrive by 9am which was confirmed. On Friday 1 December we arrived at the hotel at 9 am only to be told we were unable to check in at this time as the guests have until 11 am to vacate their rooms. So had been given misinformation by the evening receptionist. We were then left to wait in our car till 12:30 pm. Finally, we were let into room 24 which had no heating and a wet carpet from where the radiator had leaked. I complained to the duty receptionist at 18:15 pm and was given a small portable heater. I asked to be moved to another room and was told I could only move into a smaller room with two single beds. I paid £85 for a room with a double bed for me and my partner and find it totally unacceptable the way we have been treated. I went to speak to the receptionist to ask for her name and also the manager's name and she said she didn't have to give those details. However, after my persistence, she eventually disclosed this information. While explaining my experience outside to another guest, the receptionist made it her business to come outside and say “Stop talking about me and the hotel.” I WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE REBOOKING A ROOM AT THIS PLACE. Furthermore, I will be seeking compensation for the room which is NOT fit for its purpose! I could have been a mystery customer for all she knew! The receptionist concerned works in the evening, not Ashleigh who was very helpful during the day.

Response from Jamie B, Owner at Elizabeth House Hotel
Responded 4 Dec 2023
Dear Mr Reid Thank you for your review. Firstly, I'm sorry to hear that your most recent stay with us was not a good experience. I understand you stayed a week prior before going on a cruise, where you had thoroughly enjoyed our complimentary free upgrade to one of our Superior King rooms. I believe having spoken to my colleague, there was a mis-understanding in regards to the time you could have checked-in. We advise all guests check-in begins from 15:00, however on the day the housekeeping team ensured your room was ready sooner i.e. 12.30. I apologise for the radiator issue, we were unable to foresee this problem as the heating kicks in at 15:00. As we were only notified of the radiator problem at 18:15 our hands were tied with a possible solution. My manageress to which you refer to in your review tried to offer a plausible solution, i.e. electric heaters or a room swap to which you refused. I can speak in confidence that all my team here conduct themselves in a professional manner and I very strongly disagree with the events you portray with how my manageress had conducted herself that evening. I'm sorry to hear that your most recent stay with us has resulted in you not wanting to book with us again. If you do change your mind, please contact me personally and I will ensure you have a better experience at the Elizabeth House Hotel. Kind regards Jamie

A little gem . The superior room was very quiet and comfortable, and the bathroom had a very luxurious deep bath. Hard to believe this is 3 star. We found it better than many 4 star places we’ve stayed in. Friendly staff and an excellent breakfast cooked and presented with care. Good price too. Pleasant 25 minute walk into town.
