Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clean and tidy and service was good. A few rough areas in the room - bathroom walls need a good clean and fix and the shower was a little lacklustre, but other than that, I can’t fault it! It’s a Holiday Inn and you get a clean, quiet place to sleep which is what we needed. Communal area was tidy and well looked after, staff helpful and friendly. Good tea/coffee, son says the hot chocolate was very good, too, and the ambience was very relaxed. Breakfast was good. Overall a decent overnight stay.

Excellent staff - Anna on reception you were a star helping me out which my hot room last week - THANK YOU! Restaurant is pretty good, £25 for two courses and a drink offer is great VFM. The 'egg lady' at breakfast is fabulous, really friendly. The hotel is a little out of town though and if you want to eat there a 10 min drive or probably a taxi as the parking is awful in town! No hesitation in stopping there again, as I do regularly. Easy access from the motorway and A34.

Stayed here for one night whilst travelling on business. The reception and main restaurant/bar areas were bright and airy with plenty of workspaces. Check in was pleasant and my allocated room on the top floor facing away from the car park was quiet and warm. The heating/cooling was responsive and quiet when in operation. Ok, some of the fixtures and fittings are a bit worn but compared to some HI hotels I have stayed at in the past year, this was ok. I ate in the bar and my burger was good, however £6 for a pint of beer was a bit rich but it is what it is. Breakfast was excellent, having freshly cooked sausages was a bonus. The only thing that could be improved besides the rooms having a general spruce up would be to change the room door closures to more effective versions as the customary door slamming at night and early morning was quite excessive. I would definitely stay here again.

I'm reviewing the Spa Anna. We didn't stay at the hotel . We arrived at 12 and was met by a very friendly spa receptionist. The Spa itself wasn't busy and was lovely and warm. We had a delicious lunch, nachos and sandwiches. But as the afternoon, went on the Spa didn't feel so warm. The relaxing room was on the chilly side so we left to go back to the spa. We tried the foot Spa which had heated seats and warmed up a little. A suggestion for the foot Spa, grab handles would have been useful. In fact the Spa felt like , as the afternoon went on someone had switched off the heating. At 4 p.m we decided to call it a day and have a shower. The shower was disgusting, with great wads of hair everywhere. The grouting was filthy and the tiles were also covered in hair. Whilst we were there , we saw no-one check for cleanliness. No cleaning was done at all. My shower was luke warm. I'm not impressed and will not return.

The new ten pound (£10) per night parking charge is out of order. The bathrooms all still have spots of black mold. Every bathroom. I have stayed at this hotel since the first week of opening in 2010 but no more. Holiday Inn Basingstoke has no £10 parking charge neither does the Premiere Inn in Winchester.

A perfect place for a perfect weekend. I came along with a few girlfriends of many years to catch up and relax. It was perfect. Started with a really welcoming arrival at reception, the rooms were spacious and clean and perfect size for us all. The team at the bar and reception were fantastic helping us with food, taxis to town and more, they were all so helpful. We then had a super relaxing afternoon in the spa. £25 was a great price considering the facilities plus robes, towels and slippers. They were so helpful too. Simply a wonderful weekend. Thank you

Recently went to the holiday Inn at Winchester, didn't even know it existed. Was really easy to get to from London. Had to do some work/meeting when I arrived so was a bit worried if I would be able to do this. But needn't have worried, when I arrived I had a very nice friendly welcome from reception, they gave me the WiFi code, there were quite a few other people in the lounge area also working. Waited for my friends to arrive then had some drinks in the bar area. Bar staff were also really friendly. Rooms were clean and had a good sleep (apart from my friend snoring 🤣). Spa was also great, well worth the money, we were given bath robes and slippers etc. all in all we all had a great weekend and will definitely be returning.

Just returned from a weekend at the hotel. We stayed as a small group of friends, Winchester being a central location to meet up. The staff on reception were super friendly and couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a comfortable stay. The staff in the spa went out of their way to find a treatment slot for us at the last minute, which we thoroughly enjoyed. I’ve seen a couple of negative reviews on here about the parking fees, in my opinion £10 for overnight car parking is more than reasonable. Thanks all at the hotel for a fab weekend

Been visiting this hotel to visit family since it opened in 2010 but our stay in January is likely to be our last .... the rooms and service didn't disappoint but the new car parking charge did! We were a family in 2 cars so it cost us £40 to park for our weekend stay. That was a big percentage of the total cost! We'll be looking for accommodation elsewhere when we visit again.

A nice friendly greeting of a £10 a night parking charge which is added onto your bill. Its a complete con as the hotel is 2 miles out of town on an A road. This is a hidden cost by IHG and feels like a scam. It's so 2024 and feels like an added extra that a budget airline would lump on. When booking the room in December there was no mention of this. It left a really sour taste in my mouth to the extent me and my partner checked out early and came home. It's sad because the hotel is pretty good and you can tell from the staff morale they're all fed up with people moaning about it.
