Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Never having visited Winchester we were amazed how much it is steeped in history. The Cathedral is magnificent. Great river walk with water mill and good shops and restaurants. The Royal Winchester hotel is situated right in the centre and is beautifully presented with wonderful service. The breakfast range was superb!

This hotel has special memories for us as we got married here in 2022. We returned for our first anniversary and again in February for a valentines break. Can’t recommend the hotel highly enough - friendly helpful staff, spotlessly clean, good food and the location is perfect for seeing all the sights especially Winchester Cathedral which is our favourite place

We booked this as a deal through Secret Escapes. Dinner B&B. The location is fantastic- very close to the centre of Winchester. On arrival we were supposed to have a glass of Prosecco, as part of the advertised deal. We were not given this and forgot at the time to ask. We had checked in after 3pm and on walking to our room were greeted with the laundry and black bin liners of the previous night’s occupants lining our route to the room.. The room was nice enough. The wine we bought in the bar was not chilled on the first round- better on the second, probably helped by the 10 minute wait for a bar tender to come back to the bar to serve. Dinner was delicious and we could not fault the food in the evening, but then breakfast happened.. cold coffee, snotty eggs- 5/10 max.. On checking out, we paid £12 to park in the car park, which was fine, but were not told that we needed a code to leave. I called from the barrier and there was no answer. Irritating. Some positives, but all in all a disappointing stay.

Drove from Corsham to the Winchester Royal Hotel, located in the centre of Winchester. This building has a long history,, we parked in their car park, and walked to the Buttercross Monument, in the High Street, visited St. Laurence Church, wonderful in its simplicity. Walked to the Cathedral and had a great guided tour, most knowledgeable and interesting lady guide. Had sandwich lunch in the Cathedral cafe. Walked in the Market, chatted to the owner of a football items stand. Back to hotel to check in and rest. Great hotel, room spacious and light, good bathroom. Walked to Westgate, took photo, booked Cote Restaurant for tomorrow, had good meal in Zizi, very lively. Back to hotel.

Winchester is perfectly placed, just a short walk to all the shops, cathedral, pubs and eateries. The room is nice and big with a huge bed, shower and bath. There is tea, coffee and a kettle. Ould do with a better clean though

Lovely big room with big bed, great central locational minutes walk from everywhere. Menu a bit expensive but loads of other places to eat out. Rooms could do with a better clean. Nice big TV. Ask for a room overlooking the garden otherwise you have a car park. Nice quiet nights sleep

Great overnight stay really conveniently located close the main shops & key places to visit only a short walk away. Very helpful and friendly Staff, our room was spacious and comfortable. A 2nd armchair would have been a bonus but not really missed. A key highlight was the dinner at the hotel, we had the beetroot risotto & braised beef and both were outstanding and great portion size. The braised beef is the best meal I had had out in a very long time! One thing to be aware of is the on-site parking is limited although we got in fortunately. Places cannot be reserved, it’s on a first come first served basis, although when I enquired before our trip I was informed there is an overflow car park a road over and another car park 5 mins walk away. There was a £12 fee for parking that I wasn’t aware of but to be honest not really an issue for me given how convenient the location was for our weekend away. Overall a great stay and would definitely book again if revisiting Winchester.

I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. It’s not particularly modern, but it was well-kept, very clean, reasonably priced, with friendly, helpful staff and a good breakfast! I would very happily stay there again if visiting Winchester again. Its location is particularly fantastic, being only a couple of minutes away from the main shops etc. I wasn’t expecting it to be as nice as it was, given its 3star rating, but it was easily as nice as some of the 4star hotels I’ve stayed at.

This hotel is in a great location for visiting Winchester. The rooms in the old house and facing the garden are very nice. The breakfast offers plenty of choice and is delicious. The staff are very helpful. The mattress was a little soft for our liking in the room we stayed this time. Have stayed many times a day will go back again.
