Had a night here with a friend for a Mums night off, I want to credit the lovely lady on the reception desk Magdalena I think was her name, she was so kind and welcoming, friendly and professional, there was a fault in our room and she had us in another room in minutes which turned up to be an upgrade at no extra cost. We saw her a few times as we were in and out and she welcomed us with a friendly acknowledgment every time.

Room was warm and comfortable. Only problem was a man in an adjacent room talked all night with a loud voice and in the early hours if the morning all of the large bins were emptied and they were under our window!!

My friend and I stayed for the three night Christmas package as we had last year. Once again, we had an excellent experience. The package is great value for money, the food was excellent and plentiful and the staff helpful and friendly. Parts of the hotel have been refurbished since we last stayed including the bar area. We had a very comfortable and clean room with a magnificent view of the Cathedral. Little things we really appreciated included: the card, flowers, chocolate and wine that awaited us on Christmas Eve, mulled wine and mince pies awaiting for us after Midnight Mass, broadcasting the King’s speech in the restaurant on a large screen, the large TV in our room, two comfortable arm chairs in the room, a shower mat, bottled water replenished every day, breakfast beginning at 7am. We had a wonderful Christmas.

The bare bones of the hotel are quaint. The property must have been quite something in its heyday. I loved seeing the old-fashioned locks and knobs even if they are now purely decorative. It was nice to have a bathtub though no one could fit into them. Getting in an out after a shower was tricky. Some handrails are certainly needed. Kudos for the wall-mounted bath amenities and doing away with the single use plastics, but our body wash canister was empty. When I went to complain, I was given one straight away at the front desk. Many other guests had the same complaint at the same time so wondering if this is a common occurrence and oversight by housekeeping. The staff make this place. Shout-out to Magdalena at the front desk who did her best and to Sophie at the bar. The kitchen and storage areas are out of sight, so often there was no one available in the Lounge to assist. At times the staff seemed overwhelmed. Service inevitably can be slow. The sleep quality is good with the comfortable bed. We got a room overlooking the Cathedral grounds which was appreciated. The toilet flushed strong. Breakfast was supposed to end at 10:00am, but when we went down at 9:20am there was a handwritten sign saying that it was ending at 9:30am. There was no advance notice about this, which should have been given at check-in the previous day or at least written and slipped under guests' doors. The manager is always around but not sure if this helps with service in any way. We had a dinner package on our arrival night and the food was tasty. Cathedral admission was also part of our package and the cost is credited once you pay upfront at the cathedral and then return with your ticket receipt. The basic breakfast options are all there - sometimes. The staff seem clueless to recognising when food items or crockery are running low. There was no bacon, no sausages and almost no scrambled eggs at one point. There were no bowls present for the yogurt and fruit and the plate warmer was so hot, no one could hold their plates. The orange juice was below the dispensing level on both mornings and the machine ran out of coffee. There is clearly a need for F&B supervision. This is the most convenient place to stay for a cathedral visit and for exploring the town in general. It gets top marks for location but if it wasn't for this, I'm not sure this facility would be successful.

Very expensive for what was a hotel with tired small, rooms. There wasn't enough staff, and we always had to queue from checking in/out to getting a drink. It's pet-friendly, so if you don't like dogs, maybe give this one a swerve (dog hairs everywhere). We didn't try the restaurant as we couldn't get served at the bar, so we went elsewhere. On the plus side, it is right in the centre of things. Excellent restaurants i.e. Gandhi Restaurant and The Ivy (had breakfast here and it was cheap than the hotel!). The xmas market was fantastic. I completely recommend going.

First time here, but not the last one. Very cosy and local hotel in the very best location next to the Cathedral and in December; the Christmas Market. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast quite expensive, so go look for this in the city which is just outside the front door.

A pleasant stay with a room overlooking the cathedral. The only issue was coinciding with Christmas parties two nights running and a complete lack of communication between reception, the bar and the manager. Despite booking a table with reception (and confirming three times) for 7.15pm, on the first night we were redirected from the restaurant (laid out for a private function) to the bar. We were told the kitchen was closed until 8.30pm. On asking to see the manager ('Becks', who we never did see the entire visit!), we were then told we could eat if we chose from the Festive Menu in the next ten minutes. Reception had said we would have the normal menu on the first night and the Festive on the second. After ordering, we had to sit on a coffee table as the bar was full of party goers. Eventually the bar cleared as they moved to the restaurant and we could grab a table. The food came quickly and was very nice, and we were treated to the verbal dramatics of 'Mistletoe and Murder' from the restaurant over the microphone! A very pleasant employee booked us for dinner in the bar the next night at 6.30pm and organised a free drink; which we appreciated. Inevitably we arrived at 6.30pm the next evening with no specific table allocated (tables said 'Reserved' but no one knew who for). We grabbed a table in the bar and quickly ordered our food. As it was the Festive menu again, options were limited, and we ended up eating the same main course two nights running! There was also confusion about how many courses we were allowed to have. The bar filled up as the second set of party goers crowded in but at least we already had a table to eat at! We found ourselves constantly referred to as the DBB's, as staff tried to work out what to do with us. Everyone was very pleasant but it's embarrassing to be labelled as a sub-group and have to assert what you have already paid for in order to eat! It was poor that the manager never sought us out and we were left feeling not particularly welcome.

Reception was very nice, when we started to head up to our room the first thing you notice is the smell. I am hoping that this is due to it being a pet friendly accommodation rather than the type of customer. The urine smell was directly outside the room (240) and the bathroom. The room itself was very basic and needs updating. The bathroom was the worst, the toilet bowl, bath and floor were all very dirty. Location was the only good thing about this hotel but would not be enough for me to go back sadly. They also need more staff on the bar as both nights there was Christmas parties with only a couple of people on the bar which meant we waited ages to be served.

This hotel probably hasn't been updated since the 1980s, carpets are threadbare, dark wood furniture is looking very tired, and round the bottom of cupboards and skirting boards the room had not been cleaned, was filthy. Also the bathroom was way past its best. The only good thing about it was its location next to the cathedral though we only had a view of the road at the back. Breakfast was 17.50 per person so we went to a lovely little cafe not far from there where we got a lovely breakfast for much less. This should not be taking paying guests without having a complete refurb.

When I got there reception was wonderful and understanding and very efficient when checking in. I went to have a meal, the fish and chips which was an excellent sized portion for the price (compliments to the chef). It was very well cooked and delicious. I could’ve had seconds easily if I was hungrier. The bar service was exceptional; it was quick service and the two people behind the bar (I believe their names were Sophie and Katie) were very friendly and helpful. Overall I verily enjoyed my experience here and will return in the new year.
