Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a shame!! So glad we arrived in the dark. Room itself seemed ok upon arrival as we were tried from travelling most of the day. Turns out the toilet was filthy I could see all the grime when in the bath. The bed seemed comfortable however once settlting down it was a feather duvet on top of the mattress which was severally dipping on both sides. This is listed on booking.com as a spa hotel… well, the pool was absolutely hanging, I’ve never ever in my life seen a thick ring of dirt around the entire edge of a swimming pool. the water was murky so after the 1 min I was able to stomach the pool we thought we would attempt the sauna which was actually quite nice. Overpriced breakfast and evening meal and upon paying for these we were listening to the receptionist on the telephone to a customer who was booking several rooms at the tidy sum of over a thousand pounds. I felt so sorry for this poor unsuspecting customer. Avoid like the plague, and upon driving back to Devon my husband came down with conjunctivitis which I can only associate with the pool.

Overall, we had a lovely stay. The staff are very friendly and professional. Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious, the swimming pool was nice to relax in and our dinner was delicious! Yes, the place could do with a little TLC, especially in the communal areas as carpets are stained, paintwork chipped, etc. And yes, breakfast seemed very chaotic, with staff running around all over the place, especially as busy due to it being half term, but the breakfast buffet itself was of adequate quality. But it is only a three star hotel and considering how much we paid for our our two night stay, we were very happy with our stay and would definitely stay again.

I purchased the "Luxury" Package for two for £245 as a top prize in a charity fundraiser among my business partners and clients. It was gifted to the winner, who on arrival was questioned on the validity of the voucher, did not receive the prosecco, chocolates, bath pack as stated in the voucher. I had called twice before purchasing to check all was included as it was going to be gifted, the first person said "I dunno", second said "if it's on the website, you'll get it". My guest was then argued with on the three course meal as advertised, she had chicken nuggets, chips and peas served to her and her partner and was charged an additional £184 for the pleasure - still to be refunded. First was up to 5 days, now it's 7 to 10 days. Both her and I have been in touch, not so much as an apology, staff couldn't care less. Feel totally embarrassed for gifting this experience to someone, who was looking forward to a relaxing stay away. Still waiting for an apology and resolution, now £429 down between us with what was paid for not delivered. Would not recommend.

Filthy. Absolutely appalling place. Dirtiest hotel I have ever seen. After changing rooms due to zero cleanliness, the standard was still well below par, so we left. Grotty, aged and just filthy. Wipe your feet on the way out. Avoid like the plague.

This hotel has links with Hursley & Hambleton Hunt. They are hosting a hunt ball to celebrate the illegal killing of our wildlife. You have to be a complete idiot to believe that 'trail hunting ' is anything other than a smokescreen for real hunting.

Room lovely. Clean, warm, well kept. Bathroom really clean Swimming pool has a ring of confidence around the tiles and water quite cloudy, but warm Staff friendly Restaurant appalling Its a shame as it has all it needs to be very good but they need a chef and some older staff to guide the younger ones who are left to take all the bad feedback

Arrived around 6pm. Room was pleasant enough. Found the bathroom was not clean - the bath had hairs and dirt in it. I attempted a shower but the water was cold. I reported to reception but i was told that they had a few guests so hot water was limited and i had missed the opportunity for hot water. I decided to use the restaurant. They were using a limited menu due to staff shortages. I ordered a margarita pizza. It cost £8.50 but the best way to describe it is a 99p budget pizza from a supermarket. It tasted awful, the base was rock hard and it lacked any substantial toppings I really wouldn’t stay here again

Such a shame - we stayed here a few years back and were excited to return after an apparent refurbishment. I cannot see what they have done. I would say the whole place is still in need of complete refurbishment. It is very dirty everywhere. Chips, stains, wonky plug sockets. windows are shocking. A hoover around at best is the level of cleaning here. The best thing - the staff are friendly, albeit obviously short staffed everywhere. That’s what gave this review 2 stars. 3 of staying - 1 towel in bathroom. If I could score a minus star - breakfast! I would be embarrassed to serve this at home to myself! The lack of staff is obvious here (very nice guy trying his best front of house - 1 person!) Arrived at 8:45 (breakfast served 6:30-10) Asked tea/coffee - answered tea. Served a one pot tea pot. There are 3 of us! No glasses for juice, hot food gone, or almost gone. Asked if they could replenish and requested a fried egg rather than the soupy scrambled egg on offer. Waited 15 minutes for the egg to arrive swimming in its own pool of oil. Still no glasses for juice. No pastries, even though advertised. Produce cheap, tasteless and overcooked! After requesting the hash browns to be replenished and waiting and waiting, I wish I never bothered with the wait! Not a potato left in them. Tried to cut one, better off picking it up and eating it like a crisp! (See photo) So disappointed as this was a lovely place a few years back (where you ordered your hot breakfast, not served as travel lodge style buffet) Such a shame as we got a really good two nights for the price of one deal - I can now see why!!! Plus points - location, staff (when you can find them)

Lovely hotel, we arrived for a night's stay for my husbands birthday. We arrived at 3pm, the staff on the desk we're incredibly friendly and our room key was waiting ready for us. We had a lovely large refurbished ground floor room with a balcony looking onto the wooded area. It was extremely quiet and had fantastic thick black out curtains. I had balloons in the room for my husbands birthday and a card which I pre ordered, £2.50 extra. We used the pool and sauna which was lovely, the pool was warm and clean, the one and only minor issue was the tiled floor around the pool was very slippery and my husband nearly slipped several times... non slip floor for safety is definitely needed but that's my only minor bad point of the hotel. Breakfast fantastic, I'm coeliac so needed gluten free and this was no problem at all. Food was delicious. The hotel gives a wooden cabin safari feel all the way through with glass joining corridors so you can see the woodland birds, fish ponds ect. We will definitely be returning. 😊
