Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

I had the pleasure of visiting the York Hotel Du Vin a few weeks ago and decided to treat my husband to the Winchester one because I was so impressed with York. It did not disappoint. This little boutique hotel is perfect for a night away. The staff are really pleasant and can't do enough for you, the service is just lovely. The restaurant is second to none and we had a brilliant meal with wine chosen from the cellar. Minty, the lovely bar staff member bent over backwards to allow us to see the wines and they were just charming, helping us in the restaurant and in the bar. Minty is perfect in this setting and their smiling face fits this arena perfectly. We will be on a mission to visit as many Hotel Du Vins as we can now, we're hooked.

The room - a junior suite was very well appointed, bed linen was super quality but two things let the room down. Firstly a minor issue was that the pillows were too soft and not enough filling in them but secondly and * Most Importantly * the room over looked the carpark and was like it was daylight outside ALL NIGHT due to floodlights being on all night, I found it extremely difficult to sleep! So for the second night I had to buy a face mask to block out the light! Disappointed by this is an understatement, attention to detail and black out blinds should be installed. Bar was well stocked and bar tender was very knowledgeable. Breakfast was good and staff were very helpful and friendly

We went to the hotel for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had the tasting menu with accompanying wines. The food was delicious and all the wines were great. Eloise explained all about the wines and where they were from, she was very friendly and knowledgeable and made our evening very enjoyable. This was very good value for money.

The worst afternoon tea ever, a chef that doesn’t know how to cook scones…. Twice! Even after we complained they brought more over cooked rocks to the table. The wrong tea was brought to the table, it was just disappointing from start to finish.

Lovely, comfortable room in such a beautiful city. Our room was above the restaurant and being a light sleeper I could hear people talking at 1am and then music at 7am when breakfast started, probably not a problem for most. Restaurant was very good although a number of desserts were sadly unavailable. Staff were very helpful and friendly (sometimes hard to find). Charging overnight guests for parking seems a little excessive.

We have just returned from our Sunday night away at this lovely hotel booked with the Taste du Vin 5 course menu with wine. Arriving we were met by smiling staff who welcomed us and checked us in early and efficiently so we could then go and explore the town which is on the hotels doorstep. Onsite parking made this easy (charged daily) and takes away the worry of finding and leaving your car away from hotels. We treated ourselves to a junior suite (Taittinger) and our room was perfect overlooking the garden. All the usual du Vin amenities to make your stay comfortable. Great bath and fabulous double shower in this suite. The Taste du Vin menu we thought was excellent, good value, well cooked and presented. Every course, including the wine, was expertly described by knowledgeable staff. We were not rushed during the meal and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed evening. The bar is a nice area to sit in and enjoy a drink which we also did. The breakfast spread in the bistro the next morning was also great, lots of choices and cooked to order. This was our first visit to du Vin Winchester but not our first du Vin hotel and the professional friendly staff along with a great hotel made it a memorable visit albeit a short one. First impressions count and they certainly made exceptional ones here with us. We will be back.

We were warmly welcomed at reception by Harvey and smoothly checked in. We enjoyed the delicious vegan tasting menu that evening and were very well looked after by Hannah in the bistro. She gave us time between course to let the food and drink settle so we could fully enjoy it. Our delicious drinks were made by the very knowledgeable Minty, who also introduced us to White Port, highly recommend that with tonic, mint and lemon. Overall we had a fantastic time and the friendly team really added to our enjoyment. Thank you.

Visited for afternoon tea. The hotel du vin chain has always been up there with some of the better ones so I booked with confidence. Shame on me for believing the hype. Stale sandwiches that felt like they had been made in the morning and left uncovered all day, wet soggy uninspiring cakes that felt like they had come out of the freezer, (honestly, Iceland petit deserts are better - at least if they have a biscuit base it feels like you are eating biscuit), poor service. Good point was the scones. Warning, don’t ask for lactose free, because those scones are no better that hard lumps of concrete. My poor partner has never had an afternoon tea before and I had to keep promising him that this wasn’t typical. Hotel du Vin do better!

Really nice cosy hotel right in town so great location for shopping and dinner. The bar food was also pretty good. The room had everything you needed, tea, coffee, iron and lovely l’Occitane toiletries. The bed and pillows were really comfy with nice soft high quality linen. Good shower and spacious bathroom with fluffy towels!

Staff are absolutely first class. We dealt with reception, evening meal, breakfast and bar staff. Every single one was exemplary and a credit to their profession. That's what makes a hotel in my opinion.
