Travellers' Choice
Tucked away in a quiet area of the historic city of Hereford, Castle House is a Grade II listed boutique hotel owned and run by a local farming family. The hotel has 24, individually designed, luxury suites and bedrooms, eight of which are in Number 25, a Georgian Townhouse a few steps from the hotel. The hotel is famous for its award-winning restaurant. Under Head Chef, Gabor Katona, the menus are seasonal and much of the produce comes from the owner's Ballingham Hall farm's extensive kitchen garden. A true Farm to Fork story here. Gabor's Saturday Night Tasting Menu evenings are the hot ticket in town and Castle House is THE place to go for a traditional Afternoon Tea with Trumpers fairtrade tea-leaves! Castle House is the perfect place to base yourself to explore the Wye Valley and the outstandingly beautiful Herefordshire countryside. The city is also a must-see, with its magnificent medieval cathedral, home to the world-famous Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just had a four night stay in this wonderful hotel. The room was perfect with attention to every possible detail for our comfort. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. For a bonus we saw kingfishers every morning on Castle Pool as we ate delicious breakfasts in the lovely dining area.

The location of the hotel is very good to explore Herefordshire and the surrounding areas. The hotel had its own car park and was easy to find. Check in was fast and very professional, the young man was very helpful. The bar is nice decorated and is the same room you have breakfast in. The room was clean and large in size with very comfy bed and pillows. Lots of little extras in the room and good quality bathroom products. Totally impressed.

I have stayed here on three occasions and have greatly enjoyed the experience. The hotel is really lovely and is within very easy strolling distance of the cathedral and city centre. All of the staff I met were very helpful and friendly, and made my stay very pleasant indeed. I will certainly be booking in again in the near future.

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. We stayed here overnight on Valentines Day following a day at Hereford Races. Unfortunately there is no restaurant in the evenings but there are plenty of good eateries in the town and the hotel is fairly central and walking distance to lots of pubs, eateries and interesting local sites. The 'Full Hereford Breakfast' was excellent and was just one of a long list of breakfast alternatives. They are also open for lunches and the restaurant is beautifully located overlooking the River Wye and opens up to a riverside garden. There is also a bar in the restaurant which I believe is open in the evenings. A word of caution!!!!! We booked the hotel with a website that we discovered on arrival had no association with the hotel. So avoid Hotelvalues.com at all costs. Fortunately we did get our money refunded by our bank. On our arrival of course we were alarmed to find we did not have a booking and we also found out people had been similarly scammed on other occasions. Best to book direct or at least with a well know agent. To the further credit to the Castle House Hotel and the staff they were very sympathetic, found us a room and gave us a discounted rate to ease our burden. We were fortunate that there was just one room still available though. If we return to Hereford in the future this is the first place we shall look to book

Absolutely wonderful stay. Couldn't fault it and would certainly book again. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt our room was very good value. It's the service that you receive however that makes all the difference.

Celebrating Mum’s 90th Birthday was a very special and truly memorable occasion at Castle House. All friends enjoyed Afternoon Tea with bubbles in their lovely dining room and nothing was too much trouble for the efficient and friendly staff. Thanks to Tyler for helping to make the celebration just perfect. Would recommend Castle House as being a first class hotel in Hereford City offering stylish interior, good food and being accessible.

When reviewing the Castle Hotel It would be easy to list a whole host of minor issues (from a small amount of mould in the shower to an absence of butter knives at breakfast) that placed the hotel below its full potential. However to simplify things it’s best described as a nice three-star hotel in an excellent location for the city centre but with very limited car parking. Our two-night stay in late October proved enjoyable and whilst none of the minor points spoiled our stay it is a shame that the hotel isn’t able to do better. At the time of our visit there was no evening food service, and as mentioned, car parking (which is limited to ten cars) proved busy, meaning that if you’re not able to find a space you’re limited to street parking (2hr slots) or a nearby council car park (£8/24hr). There seems to be a void of fine dining restaurants in central Hereford. Everything on offer is either national chain or bistro level food. It would be nice if The Castle could fill that gap as the setting is ideal and free parking after 18:00 is available in front of the hotel. We would return again if needing to say in Hereford. Meantime our thanks go to the hotel staff for a pleasant visit.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The room was lovely with a lovely bathroom. It was very nice to have a walk in shower. The only downside was the fact that the carpet in the room was very grubby. I appreciate the fact that we visited at the end of season but carpets should still be kept clean. We stayed on a B&B basis. The breakfast was delicious. Beautiful fresh produce and enough to keep you going all day. Very nice to have breakfast served to you instead of self service. The staff we met during our stay were all helpful and friendly. This includes reception staff, waiting staff and cleaning staff. Thank you one and all. You deserve to do well.
