Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really nice staff, very helpful and friendly. Special shout out to Chloe who helped me when I needed first aid after hitting my head during our stay. Too many mulled wines! Very comfy rooms and lovely pub food. Very cosy at Christmas time too!

It was as if we were invisible. We went into the café simply for coffee and cake. At the counter we were told that someone would come to us. They did not. We sat looking at the remains of someone else's meal. At last I managed to get the attention of the serving staff and asked for the table to be cleared and our order to be taken. After a long pause the dirty crockery and cutlery were removed, but the table was not wiped, even though it was soiled. Twenty minutes having passed, we were on the point of walking out when our coffee and cake was brought. On a positive note, the staff were courteous, but, apparently, badly managed and ill-trained. The coffee and cake were good. Then there was another wait to pay the bill.

First of all, very difficult to find the car park. A very lukewarm welcome at reception and no-one to help us upstairs with luggage. Very strange decor indeed. Evening meal very average. Service was attentive though. Comfortable bed. Very ordinary breakfast. Quite disappointing.

Great location for a catch up with friends. Cosy log fire and nice atmosphere in bar and restaurant. Varied menu much enjoyed by all. Attentive waiting staff and bar staff who know how to serve drinks! Reasonably priced. Would certainly recommend.

I’m a local and over the past 25yrs have been visiting the Feathers on a casual basis. I’ve seen management and staff come and go, but have always enjoyed the comfort, aesthetic and atmosphere of the place, which has stayed more or less the same over time. However, what I have witnessed over the years is the gradual decline in decent, courteous customer service. Today I took my family here for a spot of lunch, which we had all been looking forward to. The cafe was reasonably busy and there wasn’t a large enough table available to accommodate my family, so we settled in the lounge area instead. We approached the bar to get a lunch menu (the obvious first sign we’d be eating there) and after a few moments of deliberation one of us approached the cafe till area to order, only to

Went in for some lunch with my family (there were 5 of us) and we were famished after a long walk. After going up to the bar to find a menu, and selecting our food choices, a member of our party went up to the cafe bar to place our order and were told they would come to us. We told them where we were sitting and waited for quite a while. Having a youngster with us, we were trying to keep him occupied while we waited, but as time went on, we wondered if we had been forgotten about, so went to double check it was table service. We asked politely and, once again, were told they would come and take our order. But having waited and waited, nobody came to our table. It was a really disappointing experience, and one that could have been slightly appeased if a member of staff had

The room was fantastic, the best room we have ever slept in. The bed was very comfortable. My husband loved the coffee machine in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location and has a lot of history. Would definitely stay there again and recommend.

Thought I had written this review already? Liked · Great staff, great old building that has been maintained very well. Food on the whole excellent. Parking a bonus. Disliked · What was left in a bin in the bathroom which had supposedly been cleaned and checked before our arrival was unacceptable. I have contacted the hotel twice, once by email and again via their own feedback online form but have received no acknowledgements.

Stayed for one night for a "business meeting" booked 5 rooms all comfortable, full of character & charm, Dinner, Breakfast very nice. Reception, Bar & Restaurant staff excellent very friendly & polite, except the night porter quite rude with attitude, refused to serve drinks although we were told 24/7 service. Certainly worth a Visit if in the area.
