Staff are very welcoming, the rooms are very comfortable and exceptionally clean. We had read reviews regarding the noise from the bar downstairs. In our view the building is just not big enough to house guests upstairs and private parties on the ground floor. Once the party is finished in the early hours, you have the noise of those leaving, you then have noise whilst staff clear up, move furniture etc.
Breakfast was excellent quality and again fab service.
I’m sure in the week when the bar is whiter it’s an overall excellent hotel to stay at.

We stayed at the Hertford house hotel for a weekend, Room 203 is a nice room but at weekends is noisy until the early hours due to the late night music, room is clean and extremely warm, breakfast was really good. Reception staff were warm and welcoming. There is no parking at the hotel but the public carpark is a short walk away and payment can be made via your phone.

The hotel is well located in the middle of Hertford. There is no parking as you have to park in a nearby multi-storey but this wasn't much of a problem. The rooms were clean and adequate but needed updating. The breakfast was lovely. However, do not stay here if you want a good night's sleep as there is a wine bar opposite which stays open to the early hours and a bar within the hotel which plays loud music to 2am. We had four rooms between us and room 104 was a bit shabby.

This was honestly the nicest stay ever. All the staff were sooo friendly. I even forgot to put the do not disturb sign on my door because I left in a rush with my stuff all out everywhere - the person cleaning made the room look immaculate, put all my stuff away and even ordered all my makeup! The room was so lovely and cool. The bath was incredible, so big with super powerful taps that bubbled up really high- I could have stayed in there all day! The decor was lovely with a 1920s feeling bar. When we came down for breakfast there was a band playing soft jazz and the breakfast was the nicest I've ever had included in a stay. Couldn't recommend it more and there aren't enough stars to show how nice it was!

I held my 50th birthday party at Hertford House on Saturday in their beautiful function room. This is a real hidden gem. Gorgeous decor and a real intimate atmosphere. All my guests commented on how great it was. Wendy and her team looked after me and my family brilliantly. There is a real family feel about the hotel and the feeling is they really want you to enjoy your stay.
We stayed in the hotel on the 3rd floor in the interconnecting room. Perfect for families with older kids. .They get to feel grown up and independent but you’re just through the door. The room was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. Loved the hospitality tray with the Joe’s Tea Company teas and the spring water. The kids loved the biscuits too! These little touches make a difference and give it a luxury feel. Despite the hotel being full we didn’t hear any noise and slept well.
We also reserved a area for breakfast this morning for 25 people. We pre-ordered from a lovely menu and everyone got exactly what they ordered, it tasted great and we were served by happy helpful waitresses. All my guest were so pleased as it’s not often businesses get this right. Hertford House have nailed this.
I really can’t recommend the hotel enough especially if you want to arrange a special event. I had such a lovely time. Wendy will definitely make it happen.

Like Alison S, we visited in December for their Bottomless Brunch experience. At £45 per head, we were expecting a reasonable choice of food and drink. Only the drink was unlimited (wine/beer) and the food menu very restricted.

We had booked the 11am sitting in the courtyard (festive decorations, etc). When we arrived, we were told we would be the only people sitting in the courtyard, as no else had booked the 11am sitting - maybe they knew something we didn't!

So, eventually, they found us a table inside and we began our bottomless brunch, which was far from bottomless!

It cost over £150 for three of us plus a 2-year old, had zero Christmas atmosphere and the food was average.

Not the first disappointing experience eating at Hertford House. I won't be going there again, which is a shame, because the venue is fabulous.

I would review the breakfast however we didn’t get it!!
Booked breakfast on their own website, turned up and before we could tell them we had booked ,they told us there was no food. We then told them we were booked in ,the receptionist rushed off to get her surly manager who was less than apologetic ,in fact not apologetic.
That’s the last time I come here in any capacity. They have clearly bitten off more than they can chew ,it’s a shame we didn’t get a chance to.

Starving from Hertford!

The lunch we ordered was incredibly over priced for what we received and the portion size we received. They seem to be charging London prices for some reason? Bottle of Prosecco for £32... bonkers! Nothing special about this location to warrant such prices. Such a shame.

Location is fairly central and there are long and short stay car parks within a few minutes walk. Both are reasonably priced.
The restaurant provides a good range of food with a focus on quality and arrangement. Range for breakfast is great and there is something for everyone. The coffee was also great.
The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming despite being early busy.
Room was clean, well appointed and the bed was comfortable.
Gets full marks from me and I would book again.

My partner and I used to love going to Hertford house for breakfast, so each time we've been disappointed we've just assumed its been an off day.
Last week however, a waitress Ellie, tried to sit us by the toilets, I requested (politely!) for another table, she said "No. It's all we've got." (there was a room full of empty tables!) she went to her manager and we were placed by the front door. He directed us, she walked off. After this she refused to acknowledge us, left us for over 15 minutes without taking a drinks order, when she came to our table she was incredibly rude and didn't look at either of us whilst taking our order. I asked for her manager to take our order in the end and explained about her ignorance. Our coffees came out with the wrong milk and there was a hair in my food. I didn't bother asking for a fresh dish because I hate complaining. It was probably her hair extensions which were not tied back. Shame. A good place gone down hill! Get new staff!

Hi apologies for the delay in responding however I've only just seen your question. Yes, there is a lift. If looking for peace and quiet I'd request a room not overlooking the main street - a narrow cobbled road but very busy. There is a separate hotel/room entrance adjacent to the bar so you don't need to pass through.
