Travellers' Choice
Clarion Collection Hotel St. Albans is situated in the heart of St Albans historic City Centre, opposite the magnificent Abbey and close to some excellent shopping, restaurants and traditional pubs. St Albans has a wealth of history dating some 2000 years including Roman Occupation. With St Albans Cathedral, Verulamium Park, Roman Museum, Butterfly World, Warner Bros Studio tour of the Making of Harry Potter, Whipsnade Zoo and the Gardens of the Rose so close by, there is something for everyone. Conference Rooms in St Albans This grade II listed landmark building was built in 1911 by Samuel Ryder, donor of golf's prestigious Ryder Cup, to house the business of his successful seed company. It retains many original features including leaded light room screens, sweeping staircase and a magnificent mahogany and stained glass dome. Samuel Ryder's original fireplace surround complete with hand carved initials still stands in his private office which is now the principal meetings/function room. Samuel Ryder Bar & Restaurant, St Albans At the rear of this beautiful building, 60 modern guest rooms were built in 1999 to create a superb hotel. The Samuel Ryder building has been sympathetically refurbished in a contemporary style, yet retaining the period features, to house the reception, our Samuel Ryder Bar & Restaurant and three meeting rooms. The hotel has undergone refurbishment throughout. The public area refurbishment was completed end July 2013 and the hotel is now upgraded to Clarion Collection brand of Choice Hotels International

I will start with the negative first upon checkin we was allocated our rooms and then had our temperature done I'm sorry this is so outdated information that a temperature is a main symptom of covid anymore This isn't mentioned on the website and shouldn't be happening I'm afraid as a hotel you can not be allowed too fully open and then pick and choose what measures you are keeping while I appreciate what the aim is I just feel that this hotel will adopt the covid passport scheme as soon as possible The hotel was modern and rooms are recently refurbished and they have a nice modern feel too them The hotel is in good condition and the staff are friendly and is in a ideal location

Try to avoid a lower ground room we felt that it was like being in a dungeon, also avoid arriving on Friday afternoon as most local streets are closed due to Market day we and several other cars had to travel the wrong way along a one-way street. The car park is a good walk from the hotel so make sure you drop your luggage off, also it is open and not secure. Finally, check if breakfast is included if so fine but if not try one of the local eateries, we had issues as it was included but reception tried to charge.

I don’t normally do reviews, this was a significant stay as my wife and I had married the day before and were looking forward to our 2 night stay. However my first impression was not great. I phoned the hotel to ask where to park and the receptionist was really rude and communicated in an aggressive way. Politeness and kindness were not her strong suit (in our experience anyway) when we were checking in she continued to be rude/ abrupt and sarcastic. We got to our room feeling quite annoyed and taken back by the welcome! The hotel was perfectly nice and in a great location to walk into town. The hotel has a number of car parks for its guests and the one we were allocated was the furthest away which was about a 5 minute walk, so if you have a lot of things to carry it can be a bit of a pain (literally)

Dear Leahangus, Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent experience at the Clarion Collection Hotel St Albans. It is our intention that all of our guests enjoy every aspect of their stay and I am sorry that this was clearly not the case when you stayed with us. I am so sorry that your first impression with the member of the staff that checked you in was not great and made you feel annoyed. I am also so disappointed that your experience on this occasion has led you to have such a poor opinion of one team member in a hotel which prides itself on offering an excellent customer service. Rest assured that this has now been passed on to our management department and being dealt with. I am also sorry to hear that you had to park your car in our car park 3. Due to our central location, our on site parking has only got limited spaces so it it based on first come first served. On a positive note, I am glad to hear that you liked the hotel and found our location convenient. I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience. Sincerely, Clarion Collection Hotel St Albans 01727848849

My first stay in a Clarion Collection Hotel. This one in St Albans is very good. On the street front it looks oldy worldly but there’s a modern extension at the back. My room was spacious, clean and any additional towels, coffee, etc etc I just had to ask at reception and all was left at my door in bags, owing to the Covid restrictions. Staff very friendly and helpful. Across the street is a path to the cathedral. City centre is a mere 5 min walk. City Railway station 15 min walk.

This is a great hotel for the money with local character. It is situated on the edge of the centre so can walk to pretty much everything, it's quiet and it has free parking. Rooms are well designed and very clean with all the things I look for in a hotel: comfy bed, armchair, tea and coffee making facilities, decent hairdryer, plenty of shelf/ counter space, especially in the bathroom, lighted mirror, good shower and WiFi. At this price point is definitely better value and comfort than some of the more well known chains. The hotel also offers breakfast for an additional reasonable cost and there is a bar open 24/7. Check in was welcoming, friendly and swift. There is also a rather nice art deco style Cafe Rouge attached to the hotel, although if you're happy to pay a little more for a meal I recommend Lussmans just a couple mins walk away.
