My husband and I stayed at Sopwell House to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary after we got married there there 10 years ago. There has been a lot of refurbishment done to Sopwell and a new spa added to it since we stayed. In order to get full access to the spa you need to make sure your stay includes access to the 'Club' part of the spa which is new and beautifully done up - especially the panoramic saunas. Our room wasn't available until 3pm but we were able to use the spa from 12pm and slippers/robes were provided in the lockers. Our room was spacious and as it was a special occasion the hotel had left rose petals, macaroons and a card in our room. Make sure you let them know ahead of your stay if you're celebrating a special occasion. We ate dinner in the Brasserie and the food was lovely although I found the dessert menu a little limited and we were disappointed not to receive an anniversary dessert while other couples around us did (and the hotel emailed that we would) but that's of course only a minor gripe. The breakfast included the next day was plentiful and great selection.

We were gifted a voucher for an overnight stay with spa treatments , breakfast dinner & lunch & went this Wednesday . Reception - Lovely Ting checked us in & was super helpful . Room - Deluxe & very comfy & finished to a high standard with lovely views , plenty of sockets, Elemis products , soft towels , coffee machine & all the extras you’d expect . Brassiere - Really delicious plentiful choices & attentive service . Breakfast - Plenty of choices & a relaxed atmosphere . Lunch in the spa - Fresh delicious choices & friendly staff . Cotton Mill spa - beautifully appointed . The Elemis massage & the facial I had were sublime . My therapists Sally & Vanessa were just fantastic . I had experienced many treatments worldwide & these are worth returning for . Thank you ladies . The pools & all the spa facilities are fab . My only slight issue is that the spa is set out on differs levels & as I have painful mobility problems that was quite difficult for me although I noted they have a wheelchair lift for access . I would still return however . The weather was appealing so we didn’t venture onto the lovely grounds .

Myself and my husband got married at sopwell house on 27/10/23. It was a perfect day and could not have gone any better. Vanessa the wedding co-ordinator was incredible, I could not fault her in any way, she was truly amazing. She went above and beyond to make the wedding day so special for not only myself and my partner but our friends and families too. She was very organised, kind and approachable. I would recommend anyone thinking about having their wedding at sopwell to go for it and request Vanessa to be there to co-ordinate on the day!! ♥️

A very last minute booking to visit a friend in St Albans. I briefly mentioned on email that it was our 19th wedding anniversary and we were treated to a card and biscotti in the room. Lovely touch. The spa was incredibly accommodating for a last minute booking and we reached managed to have a treatment each. I’m recovering from spinal surgery and found everything extremely accommodating with lifts and disabled parking. Room was immaculate and had use of Elemis branded shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and moisturiser along with hairdryer and complimentary water. Breakfast was included in the price but we didn’t make it, so can’t provide an opinion on that. Can’t wait to return.

I recently hosted an event for 120 people at this hotel and would highly recommend. They know exactly what they are doing and are able to advise step by step at each stage with recommendations to make the evening a success. Shanine and Chloe are very easy to deal with and it’s very reassuring to know that they understand what you need and what you want the event to look like. On the evening of the event they provided a full order of events and the operations manager Teddy was able to sort out any last minute issues and queries to make the event run to plan. We will be back again for more!

We chose to celebrate our Parents 50th wedding anniversary with an afternoon tea at Sopwell house. The booking was seamless, the venue stunning and the service beyond helpful, totally exceptional. From the moment we arrived we were looked after, even being given a complimentary private dining room and a complimentary bottle of Prosecco to toast our parents celebration. The lady in charge of our booking went above and beyond, she was truly accommodating and went out of her way to make our experience memorable. The food was presented very well and there was plenty for us all to enjoy, even the younger guests, aged 5 and 12, were looked after.

My wife and I were invited for dinner in the 'Brasserie' Restaurant, in this lovely Hotel , where our friend was staying regularly each month for a few days: A sort of respite for her given her husband and my best friend for over 55 years, has Semantic Variant Progressive Primary Aphasia, a very fast form of dementia. It is worthy of note these days, given a difficult time in the Hospitality Sector, that the Reservations Manager, Jenny Bevans, when I wrote to her to arrange a regular monthly booking for my good friend's wife, quoted me for her, a very competitive rate, given regular bookings and her background stressful situation. I say this as a retired Regional Corporate Manager, in the Company Sanctioning field, where for many years I had experience of this Sector, so I know and appreciate when a company has staff with an outlook conducive to fair and thoughtful client service. Caring for a husband at home, even with good help, is not conducive to an uplifting experience, but a monthly trip to this friendly place, with excellent staff interaction with clients....soon note you are a 'regular' client, does wonders, I can tell you for a 'stressed' wife and a close friend! So many thanks. I had attended a wedding a few years ago in this Hotel, grounds and the service ethic are excellent and dining in the hotel, was certainly not a disappointment; far from it. The staff were very efficient and attentive, with a good interaction with clients. My wife and I both had as 'mains' a superb fillet steak, cooked to perfection as we required, with French fries and a lovely salad and dressing. Starters beforehand, were potted salmon and whitebait for me, with a local ice cream for desert. A bottle of Sauvignon, for the ladies and a glass of Rioja for me, made the dining perfect: Suggest you view the website for the full menu; all quite unique and beautifully presented.

A great set of restaurants, bars, spa but the rooms are far too tired and basic for the price point. Pros: Great parking Excellent service Club at cottonmill exceptional Cons: Rooms are very tired No fridge No coffee machine No clear upgrade option Cramped room feels hugely overpriced. Restaurant food excellent, atmosphere poor I paid around £1k in total for a one night stay including club access and two treatments with lunch, dinner and breakfast. We were truly wowed by the superb service by the hotel staff and such great decor. The club at cottonmill is one of the best. The regular spa is average. Sadly later going up to the room I was genuinely surprised. It’s fine but a premier inn plus room is better equipped, newer and comfier at the same price that I paid for lunch here. Badly worn wardrobe and general upkeep (cracked and non-working towel rail, dented bin etc just took the edge off paying what I’d get a cheeky weeks holiday in Europe for). Shampoos are bolted to the wall for fear that at this price point I go around nicking the stuff, not even a coffee maker or a Fridge for our bubbly? First world problems yes, but at these prices they need to match up their rooms to the overall experience. The restaurant (Brasserie) felt again that the price and excellent food (a superb steak) didn’t match up to the airport-cafe style seating. Overall, as the spa was just other-worldly good, it was worth the stay but I wouldn’t return.

We are naturally disappointed to read that you felt a little let down by your room and we would always recommend speaking to a Duty Manager at the time rather than leaving us feeling underwhelmed. It is regrettable that you did not seek any assistance or give us an opportunity to assist. We are delighted that despite this you still enjoyed your time in the Spa, your dining experience and were wowed by the superb service my team gave you.

Sopwell House is a lovely hotel with very friendly and professional staff. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner and the chef Bhuban went to great trouble to cater for my food allergy. I would have given a 5 star rating, but was disappointed that neither of the windows in our bedroom could be opened and despite reporting this nothing was done. It was very hot to sleep and although we used the air con during the day this was too noisy to run all night. For the price I would have expected a bedroom with windows capable of opening. Otherwise would thoroughly recommend.
