Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely shocking reception from the member of staff on duty, accused our dog of weeing on a chair which he hadn’t done, then when looking around for a seat he was incredible rude when we accidentally walked in to the restaurant area unknowingly, they say they are dog friendly, they are NOT at all! I did wonder why this beautiful pub was so empty compared to every other pub in St Albans which were packed, loads of empty tables, really not surprising when u experience the horrific staff they have employed, AVOID AVOID, AVOID at all costs!

One of my favourite historic pubs in St Albans, currently let down by a poor cider selection and bright blue LED light bulbs. They only offer Thatchers, which is a budget cider, and not particularly enjoyable (especially at around £6 a pint). Please get a better quality cider on draught such as Aspall, Orchard Pig or perhaps a nice local cider. Also please get rid of the horrible blue LED light bulbs and go for the more traditional yellow incandescent ones. Details like this are really important in such a historic building and affect the ambience. If you must use LED bulbs then at least opt for the warm white ones.

Soft pillows ,warmest duffet and a matress that shallows you up. I had a tiny room but it was just perfect. Steeped in History this elegant 14th century coach house had many original wood panels and features . Compact and spotlessly clean new blends with historical and great food and good range of Ale and beverages. I'll 100% come back with Mrs King and sit together on the very regal throwns and pass a weekend walking the great parade of shops. If it was haunted they were very friendly ghosts..

An amazing experience all made possible by our delightful server Emily. Surprisingly, we got table service in this pub which was quaint, historic and warm on a very cold day. I had never had purple carrot soup before and wasn't disappointed. It came with fresh sourdough bread and was delish. The whitebait on arugula was tasty but the best thing was the fish & chips with thick, well-cooked hand-cut chips. It was enough for two of us to share. We were super satisfied with everything during our lunch. A great, relaxing, romantic writing location too by the open fires!

We stayed for our wedding and it was the best time ever. Very good communication throughout. The room was so beautiful, four poster bed, huge bath and nice hot strong shower. Spacious enough to get ready with my 2 bridesmaids. The atmosphere of the bar and room was warm, historic and inviting. Gloria on the bar was an absolute legend, wishing us congratulations and nothing was too much trouble, she even put on our favourite music. Highly recommend! Can’t wait to go back!

I booked a meal for 27 people for last Saturday months ago. I cannot fault the service I received from Emily throughout, with queries and requests. She, and the other staff at the White Hart, were very obliging. We had sole use of the Dining Room. We had a lovely family afternoon. It is nice old hotel, with lots of character. We all enjoyed ourselves and I would certainly recommend to others who would like to host a meal/event in the area. Many Thanks!

We were really pleased with how large and comfortable our room was, beautiful character room with a view of the shop's opposite. The bar area was cosy, with charming character. The staff were very friendly and the service at breakfast was great. I would definitely stay here again if visiting St Albans.

My room was in the very top of this former coaching inn, though despite the steep stairs, it was easy to get to, and clean and comfortable. The two single beds in my room where soft and comfortable, with the room itself being spacious. Despite being under the eaves, the room had plenty of headroom. The shower was hot, with an electronic control, and a pump to ensure plenty of water. The room was equipped with a kettle, ironing board, iron and hairdryer. Breakfast was to order, and arrived quickly, though they didn't have my first choice of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The Full English didn't disappoint.

I enjoyed my stay. Full breakfast but I would have loved a kipper but not available. I really like the public areas and the staff were great. Excellent location. The room was cool, which suited me but maybe a bit cold for others. I noted that there were extra heaters in the room. Bed was very comfortable. The shower could do with a real clean and re-paint.

All the staff we spoke to were friendly and willing to help with any queries. The food was good and the rooms were comfortable and quiet. The hotel is well situated in the town and a 10 to 15 minute walk to the station. I will say if you're around 6 ft mind your head walking up the stairs to the top floor.
