Just metres from Canterbury's medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free WiFi and free parking, 2 minutes' walk from the city centre. The Falstaff still retains many original features, including oak beams and an open log fire. Each room has a TV for guests to use, and facilities for making tea and coffee. The hotel offers a cooked to order full English breakfast as well as self service buffet option. The bar offers a range of wines and variety of exclusive cocktails. Canterbury West Rail Station is a 3-minute walk from the building. The city's spectacular Norman cathedral can be reached in less than 10 minutes on foot.

Excellent Tudor/Olde Worlde small hotel. No evening restaurant, but plenty of good eateries nearby, so not a problem. Breakfast was good. Our standard room was very nice - with a four poster bed - but a little on the compact size. No closed wardrobe. The bathroom, in common with almost every hotel we have stayed in, could use a hook on the door and more shelving to put watches, specs etc whilst in the shower. Despite some reviews, the carpark (payable ) was not too busy whilst we were there. We were glad we chose it.

Had a great stay here with friends. Opted for the ‘Cosy’ room which was definitely cosy in terms of size but well equipped, very clean and bed was really comfortable! Good choice at breakfast and hotel is in an ideal location for exploring Canterbury.

We stayed at the hotel for three nights and have in fact been staying there for the last twenty years whenever we go to Canterbury. The renovations have certainly improved the guests' comfort. The rooms are nice and well-equipped. The only downside really are some of the staff. During our stay we often felt as if we were inconveniencing them. This is the first time that we noticed this. During breakfast and at the bar, some of the staff were abrupt or chatting with friends while serving us. I don't think that's the way it should be at a hotel of this standard. All in all, however, we had a pleasant stay and will certainly return.

Great stay at the hoteland would definitely recommend. Room, breakfast, bar and bar staff and manager all fantastic. But just a couple of small issues that shouldn’t happen at a hotel of this quality…. Firstly we booked nearly a year in advance and made a request in the comments section of booking regarding location of rooms. On arrival this was not done. What’s the point in asking for comments/requests if not acted on. I would understand if it was last minute, but a year in advance!?! The staff on reception desk were not the greatest unfortunately, and despite booking over a year in advance to include breakfast which we paid on arrival, we were repeatedly told on at least 4 occasions that we had not got breakfast as part of our booking and would we like to pay for it!?! Repeatedly informed them that we had already paid and was part of our original booking, showing the email Confirmation. Then on checking out I was told the only thing to pay to balance up was breakfast. Again I repeated that we had already paid when we checked in the day before! This was resolved, so I thought. Until later in the day I looked on my banking app to see that they had taken an extra amount, when I enquired why, I was told breakfast!!! The manager was very helpful and it was finally resolved. It was just an annoyance and made the reception staff seem a little unprofessional. Final point was that we were told that our breakfast slot was 10am. We arrived a little earlier sat down. The cooked breakfast was fantastic but just slightly disappointed to see that the pastries and fruit were being cleared away shortly afterwards which meant that we were unable to enjoy them. Despite all these things it is a fantastic hotel.

Excellent three night stay at the Falstaff in Canterbury. Very relaxed atmosphere, warm and delightful room, with the comfiest bed ever. Spotlessly clean, and very quiet while we were there. The 'All English' breakfast was nicely cooked, and ample. The location of the hotel is very close to the city centre, just a few minutes walk. We used the park and ride service which worked out well. Highly recommend this hotel - we had a lovely break.

Very central for a stay in Canterbury - our room was at the back so comparatively quiet. Freezing January but the room was really warm and toasty - everything very clean with super bedding. There was ample choice at breakfast with fresh fruit, yogurt, excellent fresh bread and pastries, along with a variety of cooked options. You pay £15 for this but it's definitely worth the price. Staff on the reception desk are a bit indifferent to guests - a small detail - but overall a nice place to stay.

The Falstaff is very conveniently located next to one of Canterbury’s old gates in the city centre. It’s a 5 minute walk from Canterbury West, the main train station and, if you’re visiting Kent University as I was, then it’s about a 30 minutes’ walk or there’s a bus stop on the opposite side of the road from the hotel with a very regular service to the University. The hotel has around 50 rooms. I stayed one night in one of their smallest rooms. It was clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate for 1 night but I wouldn’t recommend one of the smallest rooms if you're staying for longer or have much luggage as obviously space is limited and there’s no wardrobe, just some hangers (see photo). I had a 4 poster which personally I couldn't get too excited about but it's a feature that some people might enjoy. My only complaint about the room is that there was a buzz/whirring sound which disturbed my sleep. My room (16) was facing inwards overlooking a glass roof and I'm guessing the noise was from some sort of extractor fan/ air-conditioning unit. . I’d probably stay here again for 1 night but would ask for a different room next time. I'd add that breakfast was of an excellent quality with a combination of self service and cooked to order items.

This hotel, is just (1 minute) outside The Westgate and ideally situated for all the tourist sites of the City. The rooms, we were in number 53, which is in the woodmill annexe, are excellent, and great bathroom with powershower. Excellent breakfast spread, and we feasted! Free Wi-Fi, lovely bar, sumptuous seating for guests in the lounges. The staff are excellent and friendly. I totally recommended staying here.

Dropped in for a quick drink Quirky and busy bar Ordered drink from the bar Ordered second drink at the table Bill for second drink arrived with 10% service charge Why? Didn't feel the need to pay it so glad I checked the bill Seems excessive Perhaps the team should be paid a decent wage rather than relying on a service charge Maybe the business takes the Money directly Disappointing

The reception staff was really unpleasant, the cosy room size is completely fine however if you have one on the ground floor it is noisy, and there is no proper window. The bed is ok. Breakfast is not good and staff unpleasant. The value for money is not good
