Nice hotel. Lots if parking. Smooth check in and the receptionist was very helpful. Room well equipped with dressing table, hair drier, kettle, tea, coffee etc. Room poorly designed. Dressing table in front of wardrobe making it difficult to access. Bathroom, poorly designed. No shelf in shower meaning u had to hold ur shower gel/shampoo while washing, making it very awkward. Room was cold at night but hot in the morning. Bed very comfortable and we slept very well. Breakfast was ample and food was well cooked, service was good. 10 to 15 minute walk from centre which was perfect for us but may be too far for anyone with mobility issues. Would stay again. Very reasonably priced.

We can't praise this hotel enough. On a trip between Spain and the north of England we ended our trip in Canterbury and found the Victoria. As Musicians we travel a lot and we can only say this Hotel has it all. Excellent Rooms. Well Serviced. Comftable beds and pleasing surroundings. The Staff are friendly and stand out with thier kind and helpful approach. The restaurant is outstanding value and an excellent standard. Thank you to All for making our stay at your wonderful Hotel so memorable! ❤️

The Victoria Hotel offers reasonable rooms at very reasonable rates and a good breakfast. At the rear is plenty of parking, making it a short walk to Canterbury city centre without the usual concerns over affordable parking. There is a restaurant we are yet to try but we will do so next time. Highly recommended.

As a local Canterbury resident, I have never stayed at the hotel & this is a review of the attached restaurant. It's difficult to know where to start with this review. Several years ago, I was a fairly regular user of this restaurant which is close by to my home. Service & food began to deteriorate & so I stopped using the restaurant. I was tempted back last year (2023) due to certain circumstances. I was pleasantly surprised & once again became a fairly regular customer, (when I say 'fairly regular', I mean maybe once or twice a month). I'm sorry to say that this restaurant is reverting to old practices. Just before Christmas, I attended with my family & waited well in excess of 20 minutes for our order to be taken. I grant that time is allowed to peruse the menu, discuss & choose. I thought this might be a one off & so returned a few days ago. I was pleasantly greeted & quickly shown to my reserved table. I was provided with a menu but had to request a wine list (what's the point of asking if you would like a drink before your rear end has hit the chair??). I then waited in excess of 20 minutes once again before I was paid any attention & this only materialised after trying to find someone to help. I would add that the restaurant didn't seem to be busy as there were many empty tables. If a restaurant is busy, it's understandable that there maybe a delay, but that did not seem the reason on my visit. I would add that it's useless requesting 'pie of the day' as the only pie available seems to be steak & ale in spite of chicken & leek being available in addition previously, its become a choice of 1; or 2 choices being take it or leave it. On a positive note I would like to say the staff are always polite, friendly & accommodating & the food is well cooked & is very nice.

My family and me went to the restaurant, we were greeted by a rude and miserable woman who took our drink orders and never returned, we ended up having to ask someone else. When I've gone before, I've had a children's carvery as I am unable to eat an adult portion due to medical reasons and they have always been OK with it, but I was refused today as you have to be under 11 for children's food but they then said I could have something else from the children's menu it made no sense! In the end we left without eating. Really disappointing

Response from anthony mullan, General Manager at The Victoria Hotel
Responded 7 Jan 2024
I am sorry you were not happy that we do not permit adults to have child carvery portions, whenever in the past we have offered this facility it gets abused as you can make unlimited visits to keep filling your plate and I am not saying this was your intention but happened so often in the past, we did offer you any other children's menu items that are portioned and plated by the kitchen but this wasnt to your satisfaction.

This establishment hits the right notes with me. A perfect balance of quality and price making it an extremely attractive proposition for a stay in Canterbury. A warm and friendly welcome was just the beginning, throughout our stay we noticed that everyone seemed happy in their work and this rubbed off onto the guests. The bedroom was spacious, extremely clean and came with a sumptuous king sized bed. The bar and restaurant, serving a whole range of food including a carvery was a pleasure to visit, and breakfast, for the price, was exceptional. First time here but won't be the last. I noticed that they don't allow dogs, I wish that they would extend this to unruly kids that seem to believe the restaurant and bar is a playground.

If you need to go somewhere heavenly and get away from your busy life, Victoria Hotel in the heart of Canterbury should be your choice of destination. Whether it be the location in the calm city, or the very welcoming staff all over the hotel, the cozy clean rooms. The glass room by the bar,, is a haven where I spent some quality time writing and contemplating. I can write a book about the meals there.. the carvery grill restaurant is the home of the delicious English cuisine with very generous portions, cooked to a perfection that warms the heart… A 20 minutes walk to the Cathedral and the high street, a walk that takes you to Westgate Gardens is another beautiful experience on its own.. I will go back there,, on the first option for a getaway..
