My wife ordered beer battered cod with fries and peas. She said it was ok, batter was crispy, the cod was not bright white and only had small flakes. 3/5.
I ordered the Poke Bowl with pan fried chicken (in my opinion the chicken was pre cooked then ripped in pieces then pan fried to give extra colour) the chicken was stringy and dry. Pickled red cabbage tasty but was not crunchy, sesame seaweed moist and tasty, kale tough and not nice (should only be used in smoothies), radish, avocado, carrots next to worst of the bunch large thick strips not sweet and orange , tenderstem broccoli good and fresh, roasted butternut squash bland, toasted pumpkin seeds, warm basmati rice big warm lump not seperated , topped with a teriyaki & wasabi dressing bit of warmth from the wasabi, the dish could of done with more sauce.2.5/5. Decided to not have desert will be back in the near future. Service was very good very professional. 4/5.
When the food did arrive one of the dishes was Stone cold in the middle. After speaking to the deputy manager who seemed more concerned with the location of the kitchen than listening to our issue we decided that an hour of our time for some mediocre squid wasn't really worth it so paid and left.
It's a shame as we have been before and found the service was great.
To explain: I realise that there has been a reduction in the amount of tables and therefore customers that they can handle at any one time so they instigated a time limit that you can sit at a table. This enables more covers to be served during a day of course. What it also means is that what was a very pleasant, relaxing and enjoyable evening is now turned into a Ben and Jerry's race: Come in, give us your money and then get out. You can eat if you want, but hurry up!
It's very, very sad that this should have happened. I loved going to the Ship and Trades. We have found an alternative now so that is the very sad end of a lovely experience.
There were other local opportunities but we eat at the hotel on all three nights as the food on the first night was so good.
Drinks are very reasonably priced and there is an excellent selection of food on the menu.
Great bar area and extensive outside seating available
The staff were excellent, helpful, attentive without being overbearing, friendly without trying to be your best friend. They hit the perfect balance
In the nicest possible way our three nights seemed much longer and I drove away from the hotel feeling very refreshed and knowing full well that I will definitely return.
Thank you to everybody at the hotel for making this short break so amazing
We then all had steak, a cut we’ve never tried before and it was gorgeous! Such great value for money too think it was around £14 each for the steak 😍
My steak initially was over cooked and when I told the server she was lovely, apologised and it was no problem to cook me a new steak.
Dessert was warm brownie, clotted cream and cherry compote! Huge portion enough to share!
We had plenty of time to enjoy our food and weren’t rushed along which some places you can be.
The wine was amazing I would love to know where I can buy this wine from as I can’t find it anywhere online! Such great value for money, lovely decor, beautiful being right out by the water and a lovely atmosphere inside. We can’t wait to go back ❤️
