Really good reception and dining staff, but the room servicer wasn't! We had two dangling light bulbs in the bathroom/ toilet, and three missing/ broken light bulbs as well. We reported those and were told that the room maid had been told, but she did nothing at all to rectify. Luckily Lucy replaced one bulb late the next night. Bit...

The room we stayed in "Sir Thomas Berridge" was lovely, a great size room. A beautiful bath comfortably big enough for 2 and underfloor heating. Diner was lovely, I think they had small staffing issues in the evening but we still had a great time. Very nice breakfast. Would definitely recommend to friends and will definitely want to go back...

I booked a one night stay including a four course dinner through Travelzoo. My Wife and I stayed in the Berridge Suite and the room was really good, it had a large bathroom and living area and also a Coffee machine in the room. The bathroom floor had underfloor heating which was a nice touch. The four course taster menu...

We stayed for two nights with a Groupon deal that I purchased for £159, this included a two night stay, a 4 course taster menu in the restaurant downstairs and a bottle of prosecco. I phoned to make the booking and there were no standard rooms available on the Monday and Tuesday that I wanted so I had to upgrade...

We booked a table on a Saturday evening, on arrival we was asked if we wanted a drink at the bar or go straight to the table, as it was nearly 8:30pm we went straight to the table no one offered to take our coats etc, we ordered the food in a timely manner however the drinks were very slow...

Exquisite lunch! We were most surprised by the wood pigeon starter: the flavours worked so coherently together but the smoked hazelnuts was the ingredient that brought the whole dish together. A true culinary education! The chicken was very succulent and the portion size was good. Everything cooked to perfection. The desserts were absolutely delightful - dishes that we didn't want...

The main thing to say about this place is the food was outstanding. It was better than many top restaurants I have eaten at and it was all local and seasonal, including most of the wines. We had the four course Taste of Kent menu which was wonderfully balanced in each course and as a whole. From the artichoke soup...

The Marquis at Alkham has been on my bucket list for iced a year and finally I have booked to stay and it didn't disappoint, quirky pub / restaurant with individualised rooms. Granby the bull dog soft toy greeted us in our room, to be put outside the door if we are in - made me smile (£25 and I...

We had a de luxe room. It was a good size and the bathroom was close to enormous. The bathroom had underfloor heating that wrapped us in comforting warmth. Unfortunately the heating in the room did not come on until 21.00 despite my reporting it to a member of staff. The only radiator in the room is badly sited so...

We had a great stay and evening at the Marquis and would recommend it to anybody visiting the area. Food and wine excellent and accommodation premier class. The owners have their own vineyard so try the very excellent Chalksole Manor Reserve bubbly.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Come on in. Take a look around. You might just be surprised. For while the Alkham Valley, indeed Alkham village itself, suggests genteel old England at its most rural and unspoiled, the Marquis itself is something else... It's a strikingly contemporary restaurant and hotel. The product of a major renovation in 2008, what was once the village's pub, The Marquis of Granby, has been utterly transformed. Space, light, fine furnishings and beautiful fabrics and the opportunity to fine tune every detail hasn't been missed. The restaurant is a revelation. Head Chef Andrew King's seasonally inspired and locally sourced menus are as fresh as they are imaginative, and the elegant 21st century styling is exceptional. Queen sized pocket sprung beds are swathed in the finest cotton. Sumptuous fabrics dress windows and chairs. And an eclectic collection of art completes the mood, the mix and the personality that makes this place unique. Boutique chic in the heart of the English countryside? You've found it. You've arrived. ... more   less
