Detailed Reviews
On the last two days of a three week holiday we drove into Dover and what a grand surprise awaited us...The Churchill was absolutely the finest place we stayed during our entire trip. The location, the spaciousness of the room "Winston", the incredible sizeable bathroom, view down the street and awesome made to order breakfasts, Alex and family make you feel like a member of the family. Special well thought out touches, like a mirror close to the electric outlet for hairstyling. Beautiful period pieces throughout the house and great advice on where to dine (Blakes was our fave), had no trouble getting to Dover Castle and cliffs, only minutes drive..able to walk to all restaurants and city center..great car parking here too, plenty on the street and a couple in the car park out back...what a fabulous place, didn't want to leave.

We stayed here during a weekend trip. We were very happy with the strict hygiene policies to limit the spread of Covid. Masks were mandated, and we sanitized our hands and shoes every time we came inside. Alex, the proprietor, was extremely kind and helpful our entire stay. I loved how he kept the refrigerator stocked with fresh drinking water each day for us! The breakfast was impeccable; Alex even treated us to some fresh figs that had ripened on his tree Sunday morning. We would highly recommend the Churchill Guest House to anyone staying in Dover. The thoughtful service and careful approach to public health was much appreciated.

I first stayed at the Churchill guest house back in May and have subsequently stayed in June and July, while training for my English Channel swim. There’s are so many good things to note during my stays but I’ll keep it short. The rooms were very well priced and I always left feeling like I’ve had a bargain for the standard of rooms I’ve stayed in. The rooms were all immaculately clean and the bedding was always comfy and cozy. The bathrooms and showers were again incredibly clean and there was plenty of hot water in the showers, there was always an abundance of toiletries left as well. Lastly was Alex the host who really could not of done enough for me and made me feel so very welcome. I look forward to staying again.

We stayed in the Clementine room and really enjoyed our stay: super comfy bed in a really specious, tastefully decorated room. The room was spectacularly clean and this was done every day.
Above all I'm happy that they are very environmentally conscious, for example they didn't change towels during our weekend stay, which I really appreciate, being environmentally conscious myself. Also they don't provide small toiletries but big ones.
Breakfast was delicious and was brought to the room everyday to avoid communal areas. Alex was very good in sending me a reminder everyday about it (you have to order online your preferences, very easy system). Also we felt supersafe during our stay as all the staff was wearing face covering/masks at all times. There is a car park that belongs to the guest house in the back, which makes it easy for customers with cars.

Churchill House is a beautiful Georgian guest house close to the centre of Dover.
The proprietor, Alex, welcomed us when we arrived. Covid protocols are in place at the guest house.
Our room, Clementine, was at the front of the building on Castle Street; it is a pleasant and spacious room with a four-poster bed. There is an ensuite shower room with towels and bathrobe supplied.. There is a kettle with tea and coffee provided. There is also a separate adjacent sitting room available to guests which houses the refrigerator where milk for tea and coffee and water are kept.
The check-in procedure was straightforward. Alex uses a set of QR codes to link to the relevant web pages; check-in, ordering breakfast and a comprehensive guide to Dover and the surrounding area.
Breakfast is served in the room. You can select a time slot when placing your order. There is a comprehensive selection to choose from including cooked English, vegetarian option, pancakes and porridge. We had the English it was very well cooked and served with orange juice, toast and a large bowl of fruit.
The room being at the front meant it suffered from the noise of traffic, particularly the passing lorries and noisy cars. There are shutters that help to keep the noise down. It didn’t worry us but if you are a light sleeper you may wish to select a room at the back of the house.
Alex was extremely helpful with advice and recommendation. It was a very relaxing stay, we were made to feel at home.

There are places which are nice to stay at when you go somewhere. But Churchil Guest House is so good, you want to make an excuse to go to Dover just to be able to stay there! Luckily, Dover Castle and the incredible beautiful White Cliffs are within walking distance - especially the cliffs are highly recommended!
Alex is an incredible helpful and friendly host which helped me with sights, tips and wayfinding. When I arrived I was shown around at the guest house which is a Grade II listed Georgian period townhouse built in 1834 with very beautiful and well maintained interior.
All the rooms have names: I stayed in Chartwell; a really nice, spatious single bed room with its own balcony and good view.
There is free milk in the fridge, and Alex has made a really good guestbook with tips and advices on everything.
The breakfast is another story. It's served in the hosts own residence one minute away and the day before you order what you would like. Churchill Guest House won a Breakfast Award in 2015 and not without reason. It was very delicious! The breakfast is a social experience as well with two serving times, and you eat and have a chat with other guests who want to eat at the same time. Very nice!
I would love to come back. I don't remember the last time I've stayed at such a perfect place. Thank you so much!

The host is most welcoming, and the Guest House is really charming, with a lovely warm feeling and nice details. It was calm and very clean. Breakfast was very well presented, great tastes and it was brought on a tray to your room piping hot and fresh at a time of your choice. The location is great, walking distance to everything. Will come back!

A fabulous little place! We loved it! An old Georgian house tucked away in an unspoilt corner of Dover, below the Castle. We had the Victoria room, which had its own private conservatory and little patio. Alex, the owner could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was served in our room because of Covid, but it was well-cooked and plentiful. Totall recommended!

+1
We reached the Churchill Guest House by the port in 15 minutes walking but by taxi it takes only 5 minutes. In less than 5 minutes you can reach the city center. The building is a restored Georgian house, lovely. We had the opportunity to stay in two of their rooms, and I have to say both were astonishing, with a great attention to details. Delightfully furnished, we had all the accessories we needed, and more! Bottles of water, kettle, tea & Co, biscuits, bathrobe, extra towels, wadding, wet wipes, etc. Bed and pillows (more than one each person) were really comfortable. Both the rooms were spacious with sofa or armchairs to have some rest. Alex, the owner, is super organized and he gave us more than one suggestion about restaurants and means of transport. The breakfast has to be ordered the evening before, there is a varied choice of sweet and savory food. I’m celiac so they gave me some slices of gluten free bread. Alex’s parents make the breakfast atmosphere even warmer, it has been a real pleasure to chat with them. We couldn’t find a fault, everything was absolutely perfect.

Cannot say enough good things about the Churchill House and it family of owners. We had tried for three years to stay here (COVID issues) and finally made it on our third try. We stayed for three nights before a cruise and lived every minute of our stay. We were treated like family and our every need was cared for in a friendly professional manner. Breakfasts were wonderful and served around a “family” table so you had the pleasure of meeting the proprietors and other guests. Our room (the Victoria) was very comfortable and well furnished and even has a little private gazebo/patio of sorts we enjoyed. The location is excellent as you can walk almost anywhere you want to go from the property. We mainly dealt with Alex who is so very kind and thoughtful. An excellent owner who seems to genuinely care for both his property and his guests. It just feels like you are home when you stay with Alex at the Churchill Guest House in Dover.
