We stayed in two rooms here for a night before joining our cruise and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. It is close to the white cliffs of Dover and Dover castle and only a mile from the port. St Martins is very well located. John, the concierge was amazing and always wanted to please. As other reviews noted, he is very knowledgeable of the area. The rooms were very clean. As others have stated St. Martins is a guest house. Rooms are small and basic and there isn't any air conditioning. If those things are important to you you are better off booking a large hotel. We felt the positives of this charming place far outweighed any of that other stuff and inexpensive at about 100 pounds a night.

If you want traditional and modern go to the chain hotel a block away. We chose the hotel for the location and tradition. Yes, the rooms are small and uniquely furnished but that added to the charm and experience, just a block to walk up the hill to visit Dover Castle (a MUST) and a couple of blocks down the hill to a couple of great pubs that John (our most excellent host) directed us to. Also just a few blocks down to the town center with unique little shops & stores and a few blocks to the "modern" shopping area with grocery & department stores, a theater, bakery & cafes.

Much better value than premier inn for a family room. Lovely welcome, room provides exactly what you need, may not be fashionably up to date but breakfast was second to none. Room had towels, shampoo, shower gel, hair dryer. Best keeping window closed as occasional night traffic might disturb if window is open.

en-suite is not en-suite the shower and sink is in the bedroom, not even partitioned off!
Rooms were not made up for 3 nights 4 days we were there. Outside door is locked at 11.30pm. Breakfast does not have cereals on offer asked on arrival what time we are eating between 7.30am and 8.30am. I was ill and did not attend breakfast and my husband was told off for not letting her know. the next morning no place was set for me and when the 1 rasher of bacon , hard egg , 1 sausage burnt mushrooms and beans were not all eaten by me because they were cold, she came and confronted me in the breakfast room to ask why I hadn't eaten it. We were asked to pay cash on arrival even though they had card details. the card machine was not working but were told it was going to be working the next day. In the breakfast room we were asked as we sat down - 'can you pay today' then again at the end of breakfast to go pay now - we still had 2 days left, so wasn't like we were going anywhere and they had the card details. She hovered over us at breakfast and at one point sat down while we were eating. Another member of our party sat in the gest lounge to read the paper and was aske dto go back to his room as they had people coming round.
Extremely rude and unprofessional and definitely not worth the money!!!

We chose that guest house because of the rather good ratings, but we were disappointed.
The offered and paid en suite room turned out to be a tiny room with a very old shower cabin in the room. Only toilet was separate. We could even hear the water running when next door used toilet or shower.
We cannot say anything about breakfast because we left very early.
Be aware that parking spaces in the street are very rare.
To our opinion prize is much to high for what you get. Maybe only our room on the first floor was of bad quality.

The room was so horrible with the nastiest cheapest furniture and decor. Even the drinks tray had no biscuits. The "ensuite " was a shower IN THE ROOM and the toilet was in a cupboard. It was all mismatched. The TV was set so high up on a hideous contraption that the colour was weird as it's not designed to be viewed from that angle. The window view was an industrial estate.
The light flashed on and off, the hairdryer overheated after one minute. Simply TERRIBLE and it cost one hundred pounds

The bed was comfortable.

Booked through Dover tourist office was easy to find. We were greated by the host who allowed us to inspect 3 rooms before making a choice, All were quite good, the one we chose was quite large, had a view and very light and airy and a seperate private bathroom which was large with lots of light. The hostess gave us a detailed overview of the town, made some good recomendations of what to do and where to eat.

The breakfast was good and hearty.

We found Dover a great base to see the South East, The White Horse Pub just around the corner is a good place for a drink and there are a number of good eating options in town although you have to search a bit.

We found St Martins very comfortable, and good value, with excellent hosts. It is AA 3 star and meets the standard of this rating to a high level. Even the guest lounge, which I notice has attracted a negative comment for its decor, is a comfortable pleasant area, a bit like your mums lounge room, which is not a bad thing.

We were looking for somewhere to stay near to the ferry port at Dover and the St Martins Guesthouse, at the bottom of the hill in the shadow of the Castle, was selected. Our welcome was superb from John, the Concierge, who was smartly dressed and who showed us exactly how everything worked in the house, as well as booking and confirming for us the taxi wen would need for the next day. We had requested two rooms, and while the décor in neither room was modern and stylish, the beds were comfortable, the cleanliness could not be faulted and all the means of making tea and coffee in copious quantities were present, as was a sufficiency of points for charging equipment. We stayed for two nights and were grateful at John was on the door step at a ridiculously early hour to see us off on a day trip to France, and to welcome us home later that evening. The same was true of the second day as we left and received from him a potted history of the early 19th Century house and its environment. This was a really good simple level of honest provision for the discerning guest and we loved it.

We stayed at St Martin for one night this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owner (I didn’t get his name) is a wonderful man, very welcoming, informative and friendly. He was so great with recommendations for places to eat or things to do or directions! And did I mention he was also super interesting? He made our weekend so enjoyable! Even though Dover is quite small and easy to get around, the guest house is in a great location. Super easy to get to the port, town centre, Dover castle and the cliff walk! Very clean and cosy room, amazing service and great location…what more could you ask for?

It has been a while but the hosts are proud and informative about their town. They serve up a very filling full English breakfast. The rooms were clean and cozy. I stayed at two separate visits. Nice sitting room open for guest use too
