Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A brilliant pub, excellent room and lovely staff that go above and beyond. The landlord even gave us a lift to Margate as there were no taxis available! I would strongly recommend the white stag for a place to stay!

We booked this stay as we had a wedding to attend nearby the following day but feel you should be made aware that almost all aspects of the stay at the White Stag Lodge were below the standard we had expected. I think it best to list them: 1. Upon arrival we were shown to our room. We asked about the breakfast times and were told 0600 - 0800. There was no hot breakfast but a basket would be delivered to our room between those times, a bit vague for such a small place we thought. My wife had a headache and wanted to take a nap but the door between the bar and accommodation was wedged open and the music could be heard in our room. No nap then. 2. The room was very cramped and would have been better suited to a single bed, the door from the corridor would not open fully as it hit the bed. The toilet would have been at home on a Boeing 737, there was nowhere to hang the hand towel and the tap was not securely fixed to the basin. Does one then choose the toilet seat, wet basin or floor for the towel? Even access to the toilet was restricted by a chair! 3. Whilst the decor was fresh and the room clearly recently refurbished, attention to detail was lacking and somewhat concerning. For example the only socket to use for the kettle was shared behind the bedside table with the table lamp, and thus the steam from the kettle was going under the lampshade and dangerously close to the bulb connector. No wardrobe of hanging space was provided except for a small hanging rack over the other bedside table, meaning long clothes would hang down over the table lamp. Again a possible fire risk. 4. It was our misfortune to be allocated a ground floor room adjacent to the car park, the surface of which was deep gravel. So we were disturbed by voices and vehicles until quite late and again in the morning as we needed to have the window open for ventilation (the night was very warm). 5. When wishing to use the bedside lights, these were not even plugged in, and upon dragging out the bedside tables to access the plugs we were concerned to find a wine cork and other debris behind one of them. Cleaning needs attention. 6. At 0145 we were awoken by loud voices in the corridor, and had to ask these people to be quiet. I am unsure if they were guests but all other rooms we saw were vacant so possibly not. 7. The breakfast was the final nail in the coffin of this property. It had arrived by 8am when we found it outside our door, but it was so disappointing. Two tubs of yogurt, neither chilled. Two bottles of orange juice neither chilled. Two prepacked long life croissants, mini croissants containing processed cheese wrapped in clingfilm, two pieces of fruit, and two sachets of jam the purpose of which remains unknown as the croissants had cheese in them already and no knives were provided. 8. The room description lists a desk and chair as being provided, but neither were so we were unable to work in the room. 9. No staff could be found on checkout, the bar was locked and a basket left by the back door for keys. We would have liked to have voiced our opinions of the room and breakfast but were unable to. Please be assured we have travelled widely and this property was one of the worst we have experienced. It was stressful and certainly did not provide a comfortable stay.

Lovely room in a fabulous small family run pub. Landlord amazing and couldn't help enough, same for the lovely young lady behind the bar. The night ended chatting away to the landlord, bar lady and two other couples both staying there too who hadn't met before either. Such a lovely atmosphere and the rooms are all recently refurbished. Lovely complementary breakfast too. All great and hope to go back very soon.

What can I say…. I have stayed at the white stag for two weeks for business and they could not be more accompanying. The pizzas are outstanding and the staff, especially Lucy. She has been fantastic. She remembered my ordered so I was pleasantly met with my cold pint. Welll done white stag. Looking forward to seeing you soon
