Detailed Reviews
The Falstaff is located on a narrow one way street, leading from the higher part of the seafront . So some nice views over the harbour within two minutes walk, and only a few more minutes down to the harbour. It used to be a pub, and was renovated not that long ago to a bar/bistro/cafe/deli /hotel . The rooms are tastefully renovated and retain some period features , The heating works and you can open the windows for fresh air. The only downside to the room was that the only chair looked stylish, but was incredibly uncomfortable to sit on, Also the stairs get progressively steeper and narrower as you go up to the top floor. There is a lovely period lounge on the first floor that guests can use.
Staff seemed nice and friendly .
So why not five stars?
The bar, restaurant is closed in the evenings, as an after effect of Covid. So after about 18.00 you have to let yourself in via a code on the front door. If you want a drink etc you have to get one from the mini mart across the street.
The free Continental breakfast can only be described as sparse. I am sure this could be livened up at little extra cost/effort ( some cheese & ham slices ?)
Although I managed to find the parking ok ( although no signs for it ) the only spaces marked for the hotel that were free, had locked bollards blocking them . So I had to park in a space marked private . At the Reception they did not know which parking spaces were free so could not give me the right key , until I went back to the car park to check the space numbers and go back to Reception again . Then back to the car park armed with a key to lower one of the bollards, only to find that a car had blocked me in ! It turned out to be the person who owned the space I had parked in , who luckily came back and let me out .
So the parking for new arrivals could be better organised .

I don't know where to start with how absolutely fantastic this hotel is !! A grade 2 listed building which the outside doesn't do it justice , tucked away in Ramsgate, within walking distance to Ramsgate main sands and town centre .
We booked room 8 , which has a patio area and dogs are allowed to stay in .
From the moment we arrived the staff at the hotel were so friendly and professional and welcomed us with open arms , especially the absolutely fantastic manager and owner and staff.
ROOM 8: The bedroom was light , airy and beautifully decorated and absolutely spotlessly clean . There is a large wall mirror , full tray with tea/coffee/biscuits etc.
There is enough space for a wardrobe and bedside tables and shelves , with a large smart TV on the wall, and beautiful bathroom with large shower.
The windows over look the patio and garden and let plenty of light in .
FOOD/RESTAURANT:
The food is home made and home cooked and freshly made, and the homemade burger with chips and coleslaw was delicious! The food is reasonably priced and ingredients sourced locally.
I can not express how absolutely perfect our 2 nights were !
Thankyou to everyone at The Falstaff hotel ramsgate for making us so welcome , we will definitely be back !

All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming. We stayed in room 3 which was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Whilst a continental breakfast is included in the price it was worth paying the extra for a cooked breakfast. Quality ingredients and very tasty. Would not hesitate to stay here again if we return to Ramsgate.

Three months after we booked, we had a call via booking.com saying that this hotel would not honour our confirmed booking unless we agreed to pay for two nights instead of the one we had booked.
We declined, pointing out that they had accepted our booking months ago and we were now relying on them to honour it, but they cancelled our booking and put the room back on sale for a minimum of two nights, and at a higher nightly rate!
With little availability elsewhere at that stage (this was for new year's eve), we had to stay somewhere less appealing and less convenient but more honourable.
I suggest you only book to stay at the Falstaff if you don't need your booking to be honoured and these are your kind of people.

This hotel is ideally placed to walk into Ramsgate but at £120 a night I did not expect to pay to park my car and instead of a cooked breakfast there was only a continental breakfast included in the price. I think the hotel should make it clear that there is a nominal cost for parking and if you want a cooked breakfast it’s extra. I have never paid to park my car at a hotel before but was caught out this time.
The hotel itself is clean and tidy, the staff friendly and my room as very nice albeit at the top of the building, too many stairs for anyone really elderly!

Lovely old building, outside freshly painted so off to a good start. We stayed in actual hotel whilst family had apartment next door Room 6 was a bit a small but comfortable whilst the apartment is very spacious and contains everything you would want except a bottle opener!
None of the accommodation was ready for us at 3.00pm and we didnt get keys until 4.00pm although we were allowed a free drink because of this. We were not aware that the chef is not there on Mondays or Tuesdays, however there is board outside , this only appears when the deli (next door and owned by the hotel) is open which says this but nowhere on the website and we were not advised until Tuesday morning when we asked for hot food. The free continental breakfast is abysmal - just ham, cheese and yoghurt with the promise of croissants/toast but laid on a very small table not enough to feed a mouse! Would suggest paying separately for breakfast rather than including in room that way you would get a decent continental and surely wouldnt add too much to the prices of the rooms However plenty of restaurants/cafe nearby to get a decent breakfast. The hotel remains open for guests but closes at 6pm so you are given a key to get in and lock up.
Our room was not made up on Monday night - had I been staying longer I would have complained but only a brief stay didn't worry.
The hoteliers didn't really connect with us at all other than explaining a bout locking the door and didnt seem particularly welcoming per se.
All in all an unusual experience and rather disappointing, although I loved Ramsgate and the surrounding areas

This aspires to be a ‘Boutique’ hotel but falls a little short. The hotel is clean and well decorated. It's in a lovely interesting historic building.
The continental breakfast was unimaginative – it was adequate but limited in choice.
It’s also worth mentioning that you may have to bring your own toilet paper and do your own washing up*!
We were looking forward to our stay at The Falstaff and apart from being put in a room right at the top of the building which was reached by narrow winding stairs it started well. We were provided with tea, coffee, water and biscuits. We stayed for 3 nights and during our stay our room was not serviced. Now, I don’t mind making my own bed but we were left with dirty cups so I went down the narrow winding staircase to reception with the dirty cups, explained that our room hadn’t been serviced and asked for clean cups which were provided – no apology or explanation given. I also mentioned that we would need more toilet paper the following day & I was told a note would be made. However, on returning to our room at 9:30pm the following evening we found the room had not been tidied again and we had 2 dirty cups* and very little toilet paper. There was nobody on duty at that time so we had to source our own paper – not easy at that time of night. The next morning we at least received an apology. We were so disappointed with our stay especially as we had read other glowing reviews.

We spent 2 nights at the Falstaff travelling with friends, first trip out after lockdown
The Falstaff is in an excellent position just off the Harbour, it is a beautiful historical building, and takes pride of place in the interesting street where it is located (Winner of the Ramsgate design award 2018) it has a restaurant, bar and deli /cafe, there is a gorgeous courtyard garden perfect for early evening drinks or morning coffee . The comfortable rooms are all individually and tastefully decorated with lovely vintage pieces, the mattress is divine, best nights sleep in years!
Wonderful genuine welcome from the team, they made us all feel at home straight away it really felt like home from home, we were given excellent recommendations for restaurants and bars in the area, (at the time we stayed the Restaurant was closed )
On the first morning we had the continental breakfast, the second morning we had a lovely breakfast from the Falstaff deli,
We had a great stay and have recommended the Falstaff to friends who booked and also had a fabulous stay.
We will definitely be returning there is nowhere else in Ramsgate we would choose to stay
Thank you Peter and Piero, we will be back soon !!

Overall this is a nice hotel, behind a very unassuming frontage. Our room (room 1) was large and comfortable. Internally the part of the hotel where the bedrooms are looks like it's been refurbished or redecorated quite recently, because everything was clean and smart. The rooms are furnished in a very elegant sort of style, with lots of wood around. There's a classy looking "lounge" on the first floor. The staff were all friendly. There's a car park (payable) just a minute or two's walk away. The hotel is in a great location.
A couple of niggles, hence the 4 stars... breakfast really wasn't good. The room price includes a "continental" breakfast, which is toast, a croissant, a choice of two or three cereals, ham, cheese, fruit juice and tea or coffee. It really is very minimalist, and for the price of the room I would expect a better breakfast. Yes, you can pay for hot dishes or a cooked breakfast, prepared in the deli that's next door but is part of the same establishment, and I'm sure it's very good. But you shouldn't have to pay. Strangely there isn't a menu on the tables, only in the bedroom. It all seemed very odd, especially as I can see there are past reviews criticising the breakfast.
Secondly, we were staying for two nights, and expected the room to be made up on the second day, but it wasn't. Again I can see other reviews saying the same thing. I don't know if they *never* service the rooms, or only rarely. We were certainly not told in advance that the room would not be made up. It wasn't a big issue, but again seemed strange.
But apart from those two negatives, I'd recommend the Falstaff for a comfortable and well-located place to stay for a visit to Ramsgate.

First of all I want to say a big thank to Alex when first speaking to him on the phone to book. Alex was so helpful & very friendly & helped out with everything.
On arriving we booked the self contained flat 1x room with double bed, 1x room with 2 singles both with en suite which was absolutely amazing.
There is a living space with kitchen which has got everything for cooking., & has a big veranda for you to sit outside on top.
The self contained flat was classed as room 10, but has other contained flats aswell, & normal single/double rooms available if yiu didn't want to stay in the flats.
Our flat was amazing & very very clean, & there was towels provided.
The falstaff is a little hidden gem, & we where so pleased that we found you.
Definitely would stay again.once again thank you to Alex & his team for making all us feel welcome.
