Imposing building in a good position to enjoy Royal Tonbridge wells. Cleanish, warm, with good shower. However the decor is very old fashioned/clashing. A shame really, as could be fab if brought up to date. Ok breakfast. Wouldn't re visit.

After reading the negative reviews I was close to cancelling but decided that I could cope with a few scratches on the paintwork and outdated décor. Positives first – the bedding and towels were bright white and spotless. The breakfast was enjoyable. The young man on reception as I checked out was charming and polite. A 10-15 minute walk from... We have stayed here a couple times and enjoyed our stay on both occasions. Nice little private car park is nice touch as well. Top tip is to book direct as you will save a few quid. The top floor room offer great views.

We spent two days at the Russell Hotel and we were very satisfied; All the staff from reception to breakfast were very friendly and polite. Breakfast food was good with plenty to choose from. Room although quite small was clean and bed very comfy. Tea and coffee; small TV and walk in shower; hair dryer and plenty of storage. Lovely... More

Once again my usual choices of hotels were full so found the Russell on a search engine which caught my notice as the price looked very good so booked it on line. The hotel advertises free parking (a real boon in Tunbridge Wells) but arriving around 5.45pm found it only had capacity for about 8 cars. Needless to say it... More

Desperately needs re-decorating, very old fashioned carpet, mis-matched and badly scuffed wallpaper. En suite in our bathroom pink, and tiles from 1970s grout same age, dirty needs re-doing. Mattresses throw you off to floor. Not very impressed for the price. Breakfast sausage was also underdone. Best thing about it is location to town centre.

I can tell you that it has some problems i.e needs a bit of updating and sometimes the car park is full. But that is all. I have always found my room to be clean and tidy and comfortable. The price is very competitive when compared to other hotels in the area, and its location is perfect for me, right... More

Just back from a short break. Although the hotel needs a little updating, we had a lovely couple of nights. The room was comfortable and clean. Only downside was that it was at the front of the building and as it was so hot we had to have the windows open. It looks out on to a very busy road... More

We got the final room using a booking app. Top floor (ie 4th floor), no lift. Room adequate size, no AC, no fan, very warm room as in the roof. Restaurant downstairs only serves breakfast, which was included in the tariff (no lunch or dinner), but short walk will see lots of eateries in this town, so not a problem.... More

This hotel is no nightmare, indeed. However it is never worth the miney they are asking. Mould in the bathroom, dirty towels, ridiculous hairdriers and a service desk that is not even aware about basic bicycle services in town, paired with an unacceptable breakfast where everything comes out of conserves, are signs of needing a serious renovation.
