Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We regularly attend matinee performances at Hull New Theatre and always have lunch here beforehand. There is a nice intimate atmosphere, lovely decor and the staff are really friendly. Nice views of the square and theatre if you get a table by the window. The menu consists mainly of traditional dishes (think steak pie, roasts , salmon etc) and while hardly fine dining is a far cry from fast food. Dishes are always well cooked and well presented and we have no complaints.Prices are middle range and there is a nice selection of wines. There is a real old fashioned gentile charm about this venue that draws us back time and again. We often sit a long time having a glass or two of wine after our meal and nobody ever rushes us. It’s just a charming experience. Thank you from a couple of very satisfied regulars.

Booked my husband’s 70th party here & without doubt it was the best venue we could have ever picked. From our initial meeting with Gary to organise it right through to leaving the morning after everything & I mean everything was perfect. The buffet was exemplary & everyone commented how nice it was. The dj played a fantastic variety of music. The bar staff were extremely professional & friendly & the room included (The Emily Suite) was amazing & so comfortable. Breakfast next morning was very nice & the quality of the food very good particularly the sausages. We were served by a young dark haired girl & we all said what a lovely smiling girl she is. The hotel is very intimate & has a totally relaxed, personal & friendly feel. We highly recommend it & would like to thank Gary & his lovely team for making my husband’s birthday so amazing

We stayed here when in Hull for our sons wedding (the wedding itself was elsewhere in Hull) with a large family group. The hotel could not have been more helpful. They bent over backwards to ensure that the needs of the older members of our group were met. The rooms were clean, the beds comfy, the breakfast was fab and they put on a meal for 23 of us that was both well organised and delicious. Thank you for a great stay.

The hotel is situated in a traditional Victorian/Edwardian villa terraced house in Kingston Square. There are 12 steps up to reception, some without a hand rail, and although the hotel has a lift internally it is labelled as being for the use of one person at a time. The car parking provided is about 1/4 mile away in an unsecured, open, street level car park. It's not easy walking back to the hotel in the dark in a strange city, so probably not the best choice for women travelling alone, or for those people who are not particularly mobile. Although the parking facility is mentioned on the hotel website, the lack of step free access is not mentioned at all. Other than those niggles, it is a lovely hotel. The rooms are pleasant and spacious, the food was excellent and the staff were very professional and friendly. The decor is traditional. The rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds and seating, TV, coffee and tea making facilities, and a spacious, fully supplied, private bathroom.

I have always said I would never give a 5star review, however due to an exceptionally lovely and kind, generous women who was the receptionist at the hotel. Before I explain the events that I am referring to, I should say we really liked the hotel. I normally have stayed around the Marina in Hull, however the said hotel was full, so hence this stay. It’s based, no surprise with the name of the hotel, opposite the Theatre. It’s in a small square with a little park in the middle and possibly Edwardian street lights, very old looking anyway. The room, was a few doors along in the Victoria Suites, it was a a really good sized room with an equally good sizes tv. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. The breakfast was very good, I enjoyed my ful English. Back to the start,on the morning, just as were about to check out, we we had just put the luggage in the boot, and unfortunately as I was closing the boot, my wife dropped the keys in the boot, hence we were locked out of the car.Panic ensued, I went back into the hotel to check out, I told the receptionist the story, I stupidly never got her name, but she was the proverbial angel, she said my wife and I could wait in the reception as long as we needed, which we did, she made us some hot drinks, which were free, as lunch approached she made me a sandwich, which was not her job, by the way it was very tasty. Eventually a very good Locksmith arrived and got the boot open. I thanked the receptionist and told her how much we appreciated her kindness, way beyond her jd In helping us and saying in the worst scenario there was a room available tonight. It is for her kindness that I gave a 5star review, the first one ever for me. A final Thank you to her.
