Travellers' Choice
Welcome to Claremont House, we are centrally located in Ambleside, right in the heart of the English Lake district, a friendly village with buildings of the Lakeland stone with a spectacular mountain backdrop. We are ideally situated to tour and explore one of Britain's most beautiful National Parks, with some of the UK's finest scenery and the country's most popular climbing and upland walking areas just a short walk or drive away. It is less than a minute walk to the many restaurants, pubs, shops and park offered by Ambleside and only 10 minutes walk from the north end of Windermere Lake which offers a variety of water activities, water sports and Lake Cruises. In the town, you will find everything you need to enjoy your stay.

We had a wonderful two night stay here. The owners, Dave and Angie, were welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about local walks/things to do. Our room was spacious and clean with tea/coffee making facilities, the bed was extremely comfortable. Cooked breakfast was top notch and used good local ingredients, cereal/yogurts/fruit also available. We will definitely return, the perfect B&B.

My Boyfriend booked a weekend in Ambleside for my birthday and we had the loveliest stay at Claremont House! It is in a really central location with coffee shops and restaurants a stone throw away. We made the most of the amazing countryside and drove a short 10 minutes to the start of a stunning day hike, the great and little langdale circuit. The room had everything we needed and was so warm and cosy, lots of natural light and comfy bed. The main highlight about this accommodation were the owners, they were so friendly and always there to offer help and advice for walks and restaurants. The breakfasts they provide are brilliant and we felt really looked after. I am looking forward to returning in the future and would recommend it to anyone!

One of the best hotels I’ve visited, the rooms were lovely and clean & sanitised. Big spacious rooms with a great shower! Dave & Angie called us before arrival to confirm our booking and advise us on parking. Dave is very knowledgable and at breakfast each morning told us where to go and gave us good tips & hints on the area just what you need when your not a local! Breakfast was incredible lots of choice. Definitely a 10/10 place to stay no wonder the other reviews for this place are so detailed can’t compliment them enough!

We have now had the pleasure of staying at Claremont House in Ambleside five times in as many years, our most recent visit being post-lockdown. What a terrific place to stay, made all-the-better by the wonderful owners, Dave and Angie, who go out of their way to make your stay a pleasure. Plus, if you're planning a mountain walk/climb, Dave knows the area like the back his hand, quite literally every nook and cranny having been a fell runner and part of the mountain rescue team. The cooked breakfasts prepared by Dave are superb complimented by the attentive service provided by Angie. Claremont House is a very short walk from all of the Ambleside pubs, restaurants and shops. We also enjoy the one-mile walk to the Water Edge Inn where we sit at the edge of Lake Windermere enjoying a drink or two. Recommending Claremont House and giving it five stars just doesn't seem enough! If you want to stay in Ambleside, this is the place to go!
