Detailed Reviews
I stayed in this much loved beautiful guesthouse for 3 nights and couldn’t recommend it more. Its remote setting makes it an ideal place for hikers and those looking for a nice getaway surrounded by its magnificent scenery and nature.
Sheila does a fantastic job in running this B&B by making the guests feel warm and welcome. The farmhouse is immaculately clean with a hearty stove fire lit every evening giving it a cosy feel. Sheila makes a lovely breakfast each morning which sets you up for the day. Her cakes are equally delicious. I’ve travelled quite a bit and I have to say this is one of the nicest guesthouses I’ve ever stayed in. 💜🥰

Oh my goodness - this place was just amazing. Sheila is a wonderful host who also makes a delicious breakfast. She was great at communicating with us, and also provided perfect suggestions on hikes that matched the amount of time we had (just a couple of hours one day; and a full day another day). Room was comfortable and clean. She even came in to restock the tissues and make sure things were ok. Loved that the location was a couple of miles outside of town - up in the hills where you get a little more peace and quiet, yet close to Ambleside, Grasmere and other towns.

Lovely relaxing stay here, made all the more perfect by Sheila making us feel so comfortable in this beautiful place. Lemon drizzle cake & cup of tea to welcome us was delicious & most welcome. All rooms are beautiful designed & the bedroom is perfect with en suite . Bed & the pillows are so comfy. Milk is supplied & a tasty shortbread biscuit. Sheila is absolutely the perfect hostess who does everything to a high standard to make the stay so relaxing. We chilled our wine & beer in the landing fridge to chill in the evening after a long busy day, & relaxed in the beautiful lounge, where the candles had been lit & made cozy.
Breakfast selection & the whole dining experience in the beautifully laid out room was a delight. The sausages, bacon & eggs were amazingly tasty.
This review probably sounds really gushing but can’t really explain how beautiful the whole stay was & how it added to making first time in Ambleside SO wonderful
Highly recommend to anyone & will be returning with family for sure

This B&B is just wonderful and is on a lovely farm in a quiet setting. Beautiful and homely farmhouse which is immaculately kept. Very comfortable rooms and bathrooms with everything you could possibly need. You really feel spoilt when you stay here due to the owners attention to detail and the thoughtful effort they go to. The hosts couldn't be nicer or more welcoming. I can't reccomend this place highly enough. Looking forward to staying again sometime.

My wife and I spent three nights here in October. It was beutifully furnished, homely and comfortable as well as being lovely and clean. The room was well set out and equipped. The bed was SO comfy.
Breakfast in the dining room offered a wide choice and the Full English looked delicious although we mostly had fresh fruit, cereals and toast.
Shiela is a lovely hostess and very helpful.
Parking is easy.
The best place we found for our evening meal was the GlenRothay Hotel at Grasmere (Also known as the Badger Bar. Great fish'n'chips...... and the chance of watching Badgers... but we didn't see them.)

There aren’t enough review Stars for this fabulous farmhouse B&B! Arriving at High Wray farm you feel like you’ve been enveloped into a giant hug. It’s beautiful, it’s warm and Sheila is the nicest person, the perfect hostess and the best baker. But this little slice of heaven for us doesn’t happen by magic. Hill farming is not for cissis and she and Chris work from morning till night, whilst ensuring we can wander the lanes - as Wordsworth and Miss Potter did - read a book or admire the stunning views. Mary and her little lambs by the farmhouse are surely the cutest marketing ploy ever, as the picture posers run towards you. Pippin the cat selects which guest she will sit with. If you come here you will meet other well satisfied guests and make friends too. Surely what it’s all about…

We've just spent a glorious couple of days at High Wray Farm. We have visited many Bed & Breakfast establishments over the years and this is definitely one of the best. Sheila made us very welcome and was cheerful and helpful throughout. Our room was tastefully decorated and very much in keeping with this delightful old house. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious and well presented. High Wray Farm is situated in a picturesque area with wonderful views of the fells and surrounding countryside which lends itself to a peaceful and restful ambience. It's also very well situated for exploring the south lakes, with Coniston, Hawkshead, Ambleside, Windermere and Grasmere a short drive away. Also worthy of mention is Pippin, the delightful family cat. She's absolutely lovely and we looked forward to getting back to the house and spending a little quality time with her. She does like a fuss!
I would highly recommend High Wray Farm as a relaxing base for all your Cumbrian exploring!

Lovely comfortable cottage with stunning views.
Definitely not dog friendly though. You are greeted with a list of don’t do’s with your dog and that straight away made me feel uncomfortable and frightened of the dog going near the furniture. I found it condescending to think dog owners do not live in clean houses. I hoovered all the time while I was there.
Their own dogs are kept separate in two dirty dark full of rubble sheds, with no beds just a dirty cushion on the floor which as an animal lover I found this upsetting to see. I can’t believe it’s never been mentioned before if you are an animal lover.
Maybe a working farm and dogs are treated as a dog but for me not good living outside in them conditions.
If you can deal with seeing the two dogs in dirty sheds then the cottage is lovely.
I hate to write this after such good reviews from people but felt I needed to mention the poor dogs as it was all I could think about and it did take over the holiday experience as I did find it upsetting.
Hope they are not in them dark sheds in winter. If you are an animal I would not recommend.
