I booked the break for my wife's birthday and loved we loved everything about it. The accommodation was beautiful - clean, modern but homely. The short walk (30 seconds) to the Yoga Yurt in the woods was magical. Meditating in a Yurt, in the woods with the wind in the trees and the sound of water cascading down the hills below you whilst keeping warm from the wood-burner is an experience in itself. My wife has a little experience of Yoga whereas I had none yet we were both welcomed and accommodated in all the sessions. We also enjoyed a couples massage whilst there which was equally fantastic. We stayed in the 'HAYLOFT' where our home made organic vegan brunch and dinner was served to us by our wonderful hosts. Really was an amazing experience all round and we are already planning another visit. Genuinely we loved all of it. Only criticism would be I don't think the website did the retreat justice, everything was a lot better than we expected…
My friend and I have just spent a wonderful 3 nights at Sunny Brow for a yoga and meditation retreat, it was outstanding, the location is stunning, our cottage was perfect, beautifully laid out and cosy with literally everything you could need. Both being fairly new to yoga we were a bit worried that we might struggle to keep up but we needn’t have, it’s really inclusive and all levels are catered for, it was the yoga I always hoped was out there but really struggled to find in my own locality. The meditation was really lovely, set in the most special relaxing location and incredibly well done. Make sure and get a massage while you are here as well, so relaxing and ties in beautifully with the meditation. As part of our package we had brunches and dinners included, the food was spectacular, fresh and delicious home cooked food, lots of lovely seasonal things and what a treat to be served it all in your own wee house. All in all we can genuinely say that Sunny Brow exceeded our expectations on all fronts and we can’t wait to go back. This will be the longest review I have ever written but everything was so great I really felt I couldn’t miss anything out! …
The Hayloft is style over substance – it looks like it does in the pictures but if you scratch the surface it’s shabby and it left us feeling ripped off. 1. No email ahead of our arrival with directions and other info (what time can we check-in?) and the welcome when we arrived was lukewarm. 2. There was no pint of milk in the fridge – a small thing, but it set the tone. 3. The info in the cottage said we could buy logs, but the owners didn’t have any and didn’t seem bothered that they couldn’t help. 4. The finish of the cottage was really poor and there wasn’t a single picture on any walls – we could have been anywhere. 5. It wasn’t super clean – there was a fair amount of dust and too many cobwebs. 6. Downstairs bathroom – the door didn’t close properly, the toilet roll holder was wonky, the bin grotty, and the grouting dark and dirty. There was no handwash. A hook on the back of the bathroom door would have been nice. 7. Upstairs bathroom – there was a wet towel on the towel rail when we arrived. 8. Lounge - the shutters couldn’t be closed, there are large gaps in the plaster where fixtures and fittings have been attached to the walls, the lounge furniture was uncomfortable and the cushions were cheap and tatty. Whilst we don’t watch telly whilst we’re away we did notice that the one provided was small and a bit old. 9. Kitchen – under-equipped, with mis-matched glassware and not enough bowls for the number of guests the cottage can accommodate, could have done with a large frying pan or wok. 10. Not being able to control your own central heating was odd and we wondered whether it was done to save money. Overall, bitterly disappointed.…
Sunny Brow Retreat is a very special place. We stayed for a five day couples retreat which included yoga sessions and a couples massage. Absolutely brilliant, relaxing and rejuvenating stay. The Barn is lovely, spacious and clean. Food was superb and Suzy an amazing host and instructor. Would return anytime and highly recommend.
We stayed in Bracken Barn for 7 nights and the location is brill for the Lake District, really close to Ambleside, Windermere and Coniston and you can quite easily get further afield The accommodation is set on lovely grounds with a stream running through it and surrounded by fields and trees. The accommodation itself was nice, however could have done with a more thorough clean - quite a lot of cobwebs and dust, the fridge hadn’t been cleaned and a dirty cloth was left out on the top. Could have done with a visitors book with info on where to take the bins, how the heating is controlled etc. And we weren’t really shown around or given much of an introduction All in all we had a lovely time, I think Bracken Barn could just do with a bit of loving considering it is classed as “5 star luxury” on heart of the lakes website…
