My star rating of 3 is based on the price of drinks at the Ambleside inn.We know prices are hiked for tourists no matter were you holiday that's always been a fact. There is overpriced for tourists and then there Ambleside Inn prices.Establishment itself is clean ,friendly and central .But why so expensive.?

The Ambleside Inn, formerly the Queens Hotel, is certainly a more lively and full venue than it formerly was. This is, of course, good. The staff running the floor and finding tables were charming and helpful. The staff running the bar seem to be utterly clueless about who is next in the queue, even when people have formed an orderly line. One thing that was assured at the Queen's Hotel were beers, on cask, that were well kept. Currently the cask beer is shocking. York Brewery Guzzler is a pint I've had in many pubs. I know what it can taste like and in the Ambleside in it is a stale travesty of a beer. Poor bar staff, poor cellar work. Not worthy of the name "Inn".

We chose this venue because we took our 14 year old Westie with us on holiday. The Inn provides excellent service and a friendly welcome to all. The staff are amazing, always with a smile and proactive in asking if everything is ok or if you need something. The breakfast included in our stay was really good as well. We went during a busy holiday period which made it hard to get a booking for dinner, however because we were residents at the Inn we always got a table in the evenings, as the staff rearranged seating of already made bookings to accommodate us. The Inn is extremely well located in the centre of Ambleside, there were shops and cafes nearby. The only downside would be that parking is located in a public car park, which will cost you extra. However immediately the staff advised you of the location and cost at check in. We paid for 7 full days at the car park and it cost around £35. We also went hiking through amazing trails nearby, without the need to take out our car from the car park, so that saved us the hassle of paying for extra car park time in another location. I made a mistake thinking my check out date was the next day, I got a call from the staff informing me that checkout was on that day and staff was understanding of my mistake and took no extra charge for having done check out later than stated by the Inn. I also forgot some items in the room which the staff will mail me. These little things made me feel like this is a place that really cares about their guests and the service they provide. I would highly recommend this place!

Stayed in a family room, 2 adults, 2 teens for 4 nights Aug 2021. Hotel is in a great location with so much within walking distance. The room was really clean and although it wasn’t huge it was enough space for us to be comfortable. The room was very hot, I think we were above the kitchen which made it hotter. Thankfully they provided fans which made it better. The beds were very comfortable! Breakfast was fine, nothing special but absolutely adequate. Good choice of cereals. Staff were all friendly and they prioritise overnight guests for food and drink which was really appreciated. Parking is a real challenge but we managed to get 3 nights in a nearby car park for about £17. The bigger car park near the crazy golf charged us £10 for the first night. Getting restaurant bookings at the moment is really difficult so make sure you do your research and book before you go. Would recommend Misto, Matthews Bistro and Bar ES. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to stay again.
