This charming Bed and Breakfast property has free off-road parking for 8 rooms and is conveniently situated in Ambleside town centre in the very heart of the English Lake District, Wainwright's Walking Country. The beautiful waters of Windermere, Rydal and Grasmere are within easy walking distance as are the historic homes of Wordsworth, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. Each room has been individually styled - as the B&B has been created from an original Lakeland Stone townhouse, so typical of Ambleside, no room is the same shape or size, but we hope that each one is as comfortable, attractive and pleasing as the next! With new carpets throughout the property, all rooms have either a double or king sized bed, newly refurbished en-suite shower room and flat screen TV. hospitality trays, hairdryers, wine glasses and corkscrew. Free wi-fi is available throughout the house. Prices include a selection of breakfast choices for all tastes.

Our 4th stay now and as good as ever! We always try and book room 1 with the bay window if it is available and this time it was even better with a Christmas tree in the window! It’s the most friendly, warm and cosy place to stay, and in a brilliant spot for walks, shops and restaurants without needing the car. Steve and Caz are wonderful hosts who really care about their guests and you can tell they have thought of everything to make your stay as good as possible. So many little touches which make all the difference, and really fantastic breakfasts. We were there the first weekend in December when Ambleside saw a huge amount of snow in one day and you could tell that Steve and Caz were really doing all they could to find out information for their guests about road conditions etc. Steve and Caz, we hope you have a lovely Christmas, and very best wishes for 2024… we hope to see you again then! Amanda and Stuart x…

Great guesthouse in the heart of Ambleside run by Caz and Steve who are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. Secure parking 250m away. Rooms are B&B size with en suite facilities, beautifully appointed, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Quiet area, no street noise whatsoever. Fantastic breakfast choices and a lovely atmosphere in the dining room. There are no negatives whatsoever about Hillsdale, it’s just a great place to stay. Strongly recommended.

Would not stay anywhere else in Ambleside after discovering Hillsdale and the wonderful owners Steve and Caz, who are first class hosts! Hillsdale is beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean and each room has a theme, this year we stayed in Harry, it was amazing, loved having the tub chairs in the bay window to sit with a glass of wine and watch the world go by, as it was the weekend of the Christmas Lights being switched on, the house was decorated inside and out for Christmas and it was beautiful, we even had our own little Christmas Tree in the window! The breakfast here is first class, lots of choice all freshly cooked by Caz and served with a great smile by Steve. We have already booked for next year, I would not hesitate to recommend Hillsdale if you are visiting Ambleside! See you next year Steve and Caz xx…

Steve and Caz could not do enough for us. The B&B is excellent. The attention to detail is incredible. The lovely extras made it perfect(hot water bottles with fur covers and a cold brisk walk, sensor night light in the bathroom, ). Fresh milk on request. De-icer for the car. Breakfast was amazing. Parking is 300mtrs away in a secure compound at no extra cost. The decoration is wonderful and so homely. Nothing is to much trouble. We will return and recommend it to all our friends and family Thank you

Lovely place, lovely hosts Steve and Caz, lovely room. We had a wonderful couple of nights in 'Harry'. We loved the attention to detail in the decor, the food was delicious and the room had everything we could have needed and more. Little touches like the mini hot water bottles, toiletries for the ladies, swivel mirrors for makeup, perfect, plenty of sockets near the mirror, night light in the bathroom, hooks on the door for coats ( many places seem to think this unnecessary) and a great selection in the hospitality tray including fresh milk when required that makes the difference between an ordinary B&B and one that is that bit more special. Steve and Caz have put a lot of work into making Hillsdale what it is, and their knowledge and interest in their guests makes you feel very welcome and important to them. The parking is just a short walk away and is secure. Nothing was too much trouble. Many thanks Steve and Caz for making what was a very wet few days, all the more enjoyable. …

The place was just incredible. 5 star service from beginning to end. Caz and Steve are fantastic hosts who communicates with us before we even got their to check what time we’d be arriving, gave us instructions of how to get in, breakfast was unbelievably good, so much choice and all set up before you arrive downstairs, all preordered the night before so no faffing around with what you want. The room was spacious, the bed so comfy and the pillows I could have taken with me! Very clean, decorated to a high spec, the art work on the landings is a lovely added feature and makes you feel at home. The property was lovely and warm, so many maps, umbrellas for the rain, mountain forecasts and it’s those added extras that really made you feel welcome. An excellent stay and will definitely be back! …

If there were leagues for guest houses then the Hillsdale Guest House Ambleside would be top of the premier league. Hillsdale is situated in a quiet road next to a park but only 5 minutes walk to the Main Street of Ambleside has private off the road parking and only 100 yards from a bus stop that have buses every 20 minutes that will take you almost anywhere in the Lake District. But what sets Hillsdale apart from other Guest Houses are the owners Steve and Caz from the moment you arrive their only concern is your comfort and well being, the rooms are spotless beds amazing and every detail catered for Steve and Caz will ask your plans during your stay and are so helpful in making sure you have the best information to help you enjoy your day. They will recommend the best restaurants for your evening meal, notice I never mentioned lunch because after one of Caz’s fabulous breakfasts cooked to order no lunch will be needed we have been lucky to have stopped in hotels etc all over the world and Hillsdale is right up there with the very best it is without doubt the friendliest place we have ever stopped. It’s a cliche that we will return but we are already looking at dates my only concern is that we have told so many people about this gem there might not be any Availability. Once again Steve and Caz thank you for a fabulous stay Wendy and Dave…
