Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fabulous place to stay. Lovely, warm and comfortable rooms. Delicious breakfast options served by friendly and efficient staff. The setting and location are perfect. From the doorstep you can head for the hills for the day or stroll to the many excellent shops. There are so many places to choose for food and drinks too. We made good use of the excellent drying room after being caught out in a heavy downpour!

The Gables has become our regular Ambleside B&B when my friend and I go for a walking weekend in the south Lakes. The accommodation is warm and comfortable with a hot and powerful shower in the ensuite, and plenty of space in the drying room. Breakfast is a choice of cereals, yoghurt, toast or cooked breakfast - nothing fancy but it sets you up for a day on the fells. We've stayed a number of times over several years now and never had a bad experience.

Felt very welcomed here, nice position near the centre but not in a noisy position. Excellent breakfast in well appointed breakfast room. Single room was cosy as to be expected but very comfy and I was able to regulate the temperature well, not easy in many places. Will certainly be on my list when I next return to Ambleside.

I had a room on the top floor. There are several WiFi routers in the building, unfortunately, mine wasn't working. I could have gone to the ground floor to use it there but after walking a lot and having a bad knee I didn't want to do the stairs again. They tried to fix my WiFi but it wasn't possible. The room was comfortable, the bed was very soft (too much for me, but others will love it), enough pillows and enough sockets in the wall to charge the phone and camera battery. The bathroom is on two levels with a tiny step up to the bath. Normally no problem at all, but with my stupid knee, I had problems with the tiny step (tiny in size, not in height). Tea/coffee and a couple of biscuits were there with the kettle which was lovely after a day's walking. There was room enough to put things away in a wardrobe and chest of drawers. The breakfast was good and enough to keep you going all day. There's a small carpark for several cars. It's just off the road, so very quiet, the churchbells don't ring at night.

My husband and I had a very delightful stay at the Gables Guesthouse. The room was spacious, the English breakfast delicious and the staff made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed walking around the village, visiting the shops and nearby park . All of this was very easy because of its location.

We stayed here on our honeymoon 50 years ago and returned when our sons bought us a voucher for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. The Gables had obviously changed a lot but we had a lovely time. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious and all the staff were friendly and obliging. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. We hope to go back before too long.
