Wonderful little guest house. Very smart, well kept and tidy. Great breakfast options including breakfast-to-go (bacon/saus sandwich, yogurt & fruit) if you want to be up and about super early before breakfast time starts. There's limited parking as the guest house is in central Ambleside but this was never a problem for us. Easy walking distance to many/all pubs abd...

I had a one night stay for work so I didn't get to explore the area to explore the area much. Staff were friendly, room was lovely and roomy given a single plus breakfast was great. Owners suggested a few walks which I managed to fit in - locally knowledgeable and welcoming a great stay all round. Will be back.

We had a lovely mid week stay at the Gables. Rooms are cllean and warm, friendly staff and a good breakfast. Very central with limited parking on site but lots nearby. Comfortable bed and good shower. The Gables also has a drying room - very handy when coming back from a day's wet walking in the hills!

I stayed here on a spontaneous trip away with my husband. We was visiting friends! Staff really helpful and attentive, breakfasts really good quality. Great location for the town and walking distance from the shops. Would stay here again if in the area, couldn't recommend enough.

Most important- very clean. Room was lovely, breakfast was great, lady waitress at breakfast had a truly lovely disposition just the kind of personality you want in a customer facing role. Location was spot on. Would I return oh yes

Together with a group of friends, we had a wonderful stay here. All rooms were very clean, great selection for breakfast. Serving staff were efficient and friendly. The location was perfect for both our daily fell walks and our exploits in town in the evenings. Altogether a super trip.

Booked last minute (5.30pm) and had a ground floor room. No complaints at all. Stayed in Ambleside loads and at about 6 different b and b's. This is one of the better ones. My only gripe, and it is trivial, was that our breakfast bacon was cooked in butter. I couldn't eat it, it was hanging! So buttery it put...

Many thanks for taking the time to review The Gables and thank you for your kind comments. One point I would like to make is that we definitely don't cook our bacon in butter - it is grilled. The only thing I do cook in butter are the sauteed mushrooms which I would presume is why you had some butter...

A central B&B near the heart of Ambleside, very comfortable and clean. We enjoyed 4 nights here in August 2016, really pleased. Although the guest house is by the main road into the village it is not noisy in the evenings/night. Parking for 6 cars on site. Views of the hills/mountains from nearly all the rooms; reasonable sized rooms, very...
