Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staff, location, room, drinks all great. Breakfast was awful with 5 leaves of spinnach on the eggs florentine. A dish based around spinnach. If they become more generous with their brekkie and don’t cremate the bacon and black pudding then all great!!

Stayed on a winter deal - was excellent value for money, they even provided lanterns in the room to walk to the lake at night, which is great for dog owners; location was amazing (on lake Coniston). Staff were very helpful. Our only issue was that the food portions were too large - if that is an issue...

Wonderful meal for four (plus dog friendly). Bookings not needed and found a spacious table easily on a miserable November evening. Waiter was helpful and polite, portions plentiful and lovely, quirky decor. Will definitely return next time I am in the area.

Outstanding location incredible views hotel lounge bar very seasonal but bedroom was extremely tired and bathroom was mouldy and dirty. We had an evening meal which was ok staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant but breakfast was very disappointing dried up mushrooms bacon and eggs obviously cooked previously and served as ordered .. and very little choice in continental breakfast .

Awful food considering price and a Saturday night. Soup good but Pheasant and the pie were unbelievably dry, awful. Watery gravy did not help matters. Loaded fries were bland and metal skillet they were served on was luke warm. Setting and decor really nice but food spoilt the experience. Fell Walker beer in our first round was poor, flat. Left half of it and took it back. Informed barman, more for info, not looking for a refund, but he was not interested at all! Went to The Crown afterwards surprised at its revamp, very nice and the food looked really nice. Next time know where to eat :-)

We stayed here in for one night in a comfortable corner room on the first floor, with amazing views of Lake Coniston and the Old Man of Coniston. We enjoyed everything about our stay, including breakfast and our delicious evening meal in the bar area. We had stayed here prior to the Covid pandemic, when the hotel was called the Waterhead. Since then it has undergone a full refurbishment and a new annexe has been built. It was lovely to see the new improvements.

I love this hotel. This is my 4th visit. Staff were very busy but I still got a warm friendly welcome on a wet November night. I had a double room. The two single beds put together made for a hard ridge down the middle but plenty of room, lovely and clean. My room rate was covert reasonable however The food and drink is pricey

Brilliant location for walks up the hills with the dog. Staying was made easy as dogs are welcome throughout the hotel. Meal portions are massive and the breakfast was very good. The mattress was too soft for our liking, although it didn’t affect our sleep. 😁

Shower did not work and stopped mid shower so had to use the one in the next door room. Window partly obscured by a wall despite paying extra for the view, pillows very poor quality gave me a cricked neck. The Hotel was very hot especially in the rooms even with window open. On the plus side the Staff and location are lovely,as are the grounds and the bar area and everywhere is very clean, dogs are made very welcome and the food is quite nice but no specials offered

booked for 2 nights, our room was directly above the restaurant/bar area and the main entrance. impossible to get an early night due to the noise coming from below. The room was fine, amazing views out to the hills. The staff are friendly and helpful. the food was ok, breakfast was a let down, not cooked to order rather served up from hot plates. gave it a bit of a Beafeater feeling. for nearly £500 for two nights it felt too much like a budget chain hotel. location saved it.
