Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely hotel in the centre of beautiful Grasmere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were greeted by a roaring fire, lovely on a very wet day. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful and welcomed us even if they were just passing in the corridor. Our booking was for a cosy double so we were expecting a small room. It was what we would call a standard size room with double aspect windows both giving views of the fells. The room looked newly refurbished with a great shower, big fluffy white towels and nice toiletries, tea, coffee and hot chocolate and tasty biscuits. The food was very good and the portions at dinner were big- left no room for dessert though! Breakfast was also good and plentiful. We will definitely be returning.

Dog friendly, so warm and welcoming, staff especially in the restaurant amazing, but all staff lovely, all went above and beyond. Right in the heart of the village. We booked an inclusive package including breakfast and dinner, food was excellent.

On arrival 2 members of staff were chatting behind the desk even after we approached the desk we barely got acknowledged , not very friendly at all and seemed to rush our check in. Over our 2 night stay we were in and out and the reception never once said hello just found it very rude . Room was tired and could have been cleaner, the hotel itself was also very grubby in places, the hotel restaurant carpet was disgusting and full of dirt and dog hair! we did travel with our dog like we always do so I know there are much cleaner dog friendly hotels! Positives are the location and we had a nice evening meal. Would not return.

We stayed on a Travel Zoo deal. The food and wine were very good. We stayed in a classic double which was a good size, although a little more attention to cleaning would help especially in the bathroom, were I also noticed chips in the enamel in the bathroom sink. Though these are minor details they do need to be flagged up so management can take action to maintain standards.

This was a birthday break for my wife. The hotel was perfectly placed for a walk around Grasmere, and ideally situated next door to the gingerbread shop. All the staff we encountered were friendly and professional, and the food in the restaurant in the evening was very good.

We were very surprised and grateful to receive a wonderful room upgrade when checking in to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Had a memorable stay, hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff helpful and friendly..Unfortunately, kitchen problems for breakfast on our final day was the only negative to report.

Was looking forward to a special treat for me and my partner. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. On arrival, the Receptionist was quite rude, and not at all welcoming. The corriders and public areas were quite shabby and looked very tired. The room was pleasant except for the side lights to the bed not working and the stain on the bed cover. For a property that is in such a beautiful location, it is such a shame it doesn't come up to a standard that reflects it's pricing, or the standard of other Hotels in the area at a similar price. On a positive, the breakfast was excellent.
