Absolutely dreadful even asked us to strip bead before we vacated the room. No TV. Teeny bedroom wasn't a hotel more like a hostel. Very quiet. Host was abrupt and poured our milk into our cereal like we were children

Having just completed the Coast to Coast walk, I can honestly say that of all our 12 nights stay in various types of accommodation this was by far the worst and most expensive night we had! It was a hostel with hostel beds and bedding for the price of a hotel. My bed frame collapsing during the night! During our stay the hostel suffered a power cut for most of the night, whilst this was not the hostels fault, the emergency light in our room remained on and bright all night making sleep impossible. The food was good, but no choice and vastly over priced for what it was. The staff were very strict on rules., another party were seriously told off for being 5 minutes late for breakfast!

Great place. Tranquil. North of Grasmere by about 3/4 mile. Great welcome by Taylor and Carolyn and we were allocated room 1. Room situated at the rear of Thorney How beautifully quiet and well appointed with a great comfy bed, tea and coffee facilities, and a great on suit shower room. Breakfast was superb and if a full English taken it would last till dinner time. Perfect. Evening meal was great and delicious (thank you Carolyn for the recipe).Stayed 5 Sept through to 8 Sept and enjoyed every minute of our stay with Taylor and Carolyn We wish you continued success in the future

Stayed at Thorney How for a few nights as part of a group. The place was really clean and Taylor and Caroline were very accommodating. Our stay was very organised, which was team work from both sides. Food cooked by Taylor and Caroline was delicious. The views from the house are just beautiful and breath-taking. The walk in to Grasmere village is about a 15 minute walk and it's such a nice quirky village. Would definitely visit again.

This small rural hotel is nested between hills and farmland, situated close to Dove Cottage and museum, and not far from Windermere. Thorney How was the perfect retreat for our literary trip. Staff are attentive and welcoming and the private ensuite we stayed in was very comfortable. The location is the perfect place to stay for those with an interest in Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth.

Decided at last minute to visit Lake District on our way home to Scotland after a family holiday. B & B's and hotels in Keswick and Grasmere all full so had given up trying when Thorney How appeared on the screen - we later found out there had been a cancellation. A bit unsure as we're in our 70's and it's a long time since we stayed in a hostel. We needn't have worried. Our en-suite room was small but very clean and bed was comfy. Shower room was small but shower was excellent. Kettle, tea and coffee provided in room. Continental breakfast was included, served in attractive dining room. The whole place was nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Friendly welcome and service and pleasant atmosphere in the hostel. Appreciated just being ten minutes walk from the centre of very busy Grasmere and the views were superb.…

We chose this B'n'B because we wanted to get away from the city jungle and enjoy nature and this accommodation is set in the middle of all the hiking routes, which was great for us and the kids. Easedale Tarn is great! We even manage to take a swim. The owners are really helpful and welcome. We will recommend this place to everyone.

So if you like youth hostels, this is a great place to go. I like youth hostels. This place is like a youth hostel however it is meant to be a b n b which it barely is. The rooms have no tea or coffee or hot chocolate but they have cups and a kettle, bathroom is smaller than a telephone box, the rooms are extremely overpriced and no space whatsoever and the beds are quite uncomfortable. My dad told me it was cheap then proceeded to tell me the room was £170 per night. It includes breakfast and the breakfast is the best part. At the end of the day the room really helped so I can look forward to the yurt after we’ve stayed at this place.

Hi Thomas We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast. It is true Thorney How was once a Youth Hostel, it dates back over 90 years to the 1930's in this respect and many of the aspects of being at Youth Hostel as well as being in a fabulous location remain in place. Although there are now some extra comforts that we have put in place like an en-suite bathroom, good Wifi, good breakfasts and reliable heating. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic some of our facitliites have however had to be reduced or closed inclduing a TV lounge with games, jigsaws and books that you might otherwise have used, so you will not have had the full experience of being here. Your father booked the room via AirBNB for a family of 6 and has left a 5 star review following his stay with us saying how enjoyable it was. Perhaps you might both have a chat together and find an agreement on this :-) Kind regards Taylor & Carolyn

We stayed at Thorney How for 3 nights as a family of 4 and found it amazing. Taylor and Carolyn were very friendly and welcoming, we had the best cooked English breakfast. The location is excellent, only a 15 minute walk into Grasmere and some great walking routes nearby. We would love to return in the future to explore some more.
