Lancrigg is set just outside of the peaceful and picturesque village of Grasmere. We are situated just 800 yards from the the village centre. The accommodation is comfortable and relaxing and makes a truly wonderful escape, access to the walks are right out of our door. There are no roads beyond Lancrigg, just the tumbling fells and streams. The house has many connections with past and present writers, artists and musicians. There is a sense of peace when relaxing at Lancrigg that nobody can quite put their finger on, some suggest it may be the water that flows under the building through the Helm Crag rock. The Lancrigg is open to non-residents with a fantastic variety of light refreshments available from the cafe & bar.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just spent a fantastic weekend as a group of 14, (family and friends) for our Ruby wedding anniversary at the Lancrigg, a real home from home. Large lounge with open coal fire great for anyone to have a relaxing break with a brew or a beer. Katrina was brilliant, so friendly and helpful, always around if anything needed. Hotel is in an amazing setting, an easy 10 -15 minutes walk from the village.

Lancrigg is in a beautiful location and externally at least it is very attractive, however when you are paying £170.00 per night you do expect a reasonable standard. Our room (Dickens) was quite small and not particularly nicely furnished, no valence on the bed, rusting light fittings, sticking draws, toilet seat and shower rail both very loose, towels and toilet roll and a broken hand soap dispenser were the only bathroom products. The only time the heating came on was the afternoon of our arrival, certainly not the second night which was much colder. in fact there was no sign of the recent renovations claimed on the very slick website. and the whole room and the other areas we saw were looking somewhat down at heel. Breakfast which was described as “complementary” was a very poor buffet with a very limited choice of hot food, frozen bread to make your own toast, a few miniature croissants, tinned fruit and what tasted like the cheapest orange juice available. And if you want a hot drink, there’s the kettle, help yourself! So not the service we expected at that price point. We found the drinks in the bar incredibly expensive, though on a positive note the soup we had was very nice. Though yet again very expensive. You might notice a theme here. In our opinion they are charging a premium for the location and not delivering the rooms or service to match the price. We will not be returning or indeed recommending Lancrigg to anyone

Only guests on a Monday night, greeted by Josh the chef. Such a nice lad and very welcoming. Decided to stay for dinner before a walk with the pooches the following morning. Serene and Josh were the perfect hosts. Food was great, chat was flowing and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely visiting again!

Top hospitality and friendly staff, will visit again for sure. Warm and welcoming both the facility and staff. Location is excellent with stunning views. Grasmere village is a short walk and the surrounding Craggs and Lakes are also a short walk. The scenery is just out of this world.

Wow what’s an amazing place to stay. Just a 15 minute walk into grasmere villiage. Stayed in barn room 3 and it was beautiful, heated flooring, comfy bed, amazing shower, kettle with tea and coffee. Terrace right outside and a few steps away from the main house. Warmly welcomed by the lovely Katrina who showed us around the house and our room and was always around the help or chat. Josh the chef was lovely too and his sticky toffee pudding is the best I ever had. Breakfast was delicious and plenty to choose from with great views from the window. Great walks from the front door to Helm crag and Easdale tarn. Met the resident cat pebbles who I fell in love with. Will definitely return without a doubt loved everything this place has to offer. I used to stay here as a child when it was a vegetarian guest house , I have very fond memories . We came back here five years ago when the management changed but it wasn’t great , luckily we decided to give it a second chance . We had a two night stay with our four year old . We couldn’t of been better looked after by Katrina and Francine . Nothing was too much trouble , they went above and beyond . We had lovely food , a warm atmosphere and are very much looking forward to booking again . Faultless stay !

We had an absolutely terrific stay here - lovely accommodation, beautiful setting, open fire to lounge by and delicious whiskey. Dinner was simply sublime! They were really accommodating of my dietary requirements (coeliac and veggie)! The staff were super friendly and helpful and really made our stay comfortable (shout-out to Gigi who was so smiley and nice and the other lady who was on at breakfast!!) We will be back. :-) Kate and Jonny

Lovely place, views were amazing and a great place to relax after a day of walking. Only issue was the whirlpool bath was broken which was one of the reasons we chose that room. We recommend a walk up Helms Crag. Good views and steps all the way.

We had a 2 night stay at the Lancrig this week. The staff were wonderful in particular Sereen (5 star) who always went above and beyond! Nothing was too much trouble . The hotel is in a secluded and quiet location about half a mile or just over outside of Grasmere. Easy to walk into town although you would need a torch when walking at night. Taxis are available but quite expensive at £15 for a single journey from hotel to town. We had the Silver Howe room with a lovely view and good en-suite facilities - perhaps a range of toiletries could be made available in each room. Good standard of cleanliness Quite a number of walks can be done from the hotel without using your car to get to a start point.
