Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Called in for lunch on a whim, cold and wet but immediately felt welcome when we walked in with the fire going. Three of us had a lovely lunch, couldn’t fault it and staff were attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend for a meal.

I've given this place a 1 star review before I've even visited it and I've no intention of ever visiting. I booked this a year ago for a 3 night stay for my partners 60th birthday because it had a good reputation for good food and a nice bar. Less than 24 hours before we were due to set off, I received a message saying both the bar and restaurant are closed during our stay. If we wanted , we could still stay there but food and drinks ( including breakfast )would be served in their sister pub 10 minutes drive away. Sorry , I don't want to drive 10 minutes for breakfast and I certainly don't want to drink and drive after my evening meal ! Luckily we have managed to book alternative accommodation nearby. If you are shutting a pubs bar and restaurant for so called 'essential maintenance ' you should shut the whole place. I genuinely hope people boycott this place in future.

Needed a night to stay last minute and found this. In a beautiful location surrounded by valleys and mountains which was the view from our window too! The pub was very cosy and beautifully decorated with an old type open fire place just gorgeous. The room was standard and expected for a pub room, very tidy and clean and the bed was very comfy. Would stay again.

One of our best stays at Travellers! Excellent food and ales. First class customer service. Small but cosy and warm rooms. Ate there in the evening and couldn't fault the meals. The rice pudding with damson compote was divine!! Breakfast has improved so much, really well cooked, lots of choices and plenty of it! Our coffee cups were constantly refilled, and I loved the make your own toast!! Good value for an excellent experience. Back to pre Covid standards!!

Room Tip: Pre book dinner. Front rooms can have traffic noise so try to book a rear room, (7 or8).

Great service and food from start to finish and good value for money. Well done guys and keep up the good work. Dog friendly as well plus free on site parking which always helps. We will definitely be back when next in the area for more delicious food and drink.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Travelers Rest. It is nestled in a picturesque valley with easy drives to other villages in the Lake District. The staff were very friendly and courteous. The food in the restaurant was delicious for breakfast and dinner. If there, DO NOT miss out on the Sunday roast special for both lunch and dinner. I would not say this is a luxurious place to stay, but, it was very clean, comfortable, and cozy...perfectly met all of our needs. There is a conveniently located "foot path" to walk up the hill behind the Inn with great views of the area. We would definitely consider staying again if back in the same area.

Booked a meal here after having had an absolutely dreadful holiday (family member in Cumberland Infirmary). Service was excellent. Very welcoming and accommodating. We have two dogs one of whom is very reactive. Food was excellent and portion sizes on the large side of good. Would definitely recommend for an evening meal. Good selection of gluten free, veggie and vegan options as well.
