Detailed Reviews
We arranged a two night stay at Walter Ground Manor to celebrate our 3rd anniversary and could understand instantly when we arrived why it was a 5* establishment. We stayed in the gorgeous Veranda room which overlooked the garden. Simply beautiful. In the bathroom I was particularly impressed with how clean it was, literally not a spot on anything. There was a little packet of bath salts, a small soap and a little cosmetic pack which contained a couple of cotton pads, cotton buds and a nail file which I thought was a lovely touch. The bath was amazing! Into the bedroom (across the underfloor heating which was a massive bonus!!) was a super king bed with the softest pillows and duvet, I was almost disappointed at the thought of getting in my own bed!! Again everything is spotless, there are tea and coffee making facilities with a selection of both, there’s a small fridge in the room which is stocked with a bottle of water and a bottle of milk. Again, great touch. The chairs were comfortable to sit in. Due to COVID 19 the pubs/restaurants close at 10pm and we were particularly pleased that the large TV on the bedroom wall was a smart tv and you could in fact log in to your own Netflix account. This was great after an evening of food and drink being able to relax on the bed watching a good series. Breakfast was great and I have to say the pictures in the website do not do it justice. A menu option list is left outside your room and collected as easy as that. There is everything from tea, coffee, fresh orange to a full English, eggs Benedict and croissants and a started of yogurt, fruit and granola. Richard snd Sue are extremely welcoming and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The location is great and walker ground is set just a 5-10 minute walk from the village centre (depending how much food you’ve eaten and gins you have consumed!!) you will need a torch because it is pitch black and there is no street lighting for a stretch of the walk. All in all a brilliant stay and we will definitely be back.

The best guesthouse we’ve ever been to.
Richard and Sue are warm smiley hosts who went out of their way to make sure our stay was wonderful. For a small business ran by a couple a lot of thought had gone in to ensure our stay was COVID safe.
The room was spotless, the breakfasts were delicious and lovely unique touches like home made bread at breakfast and cake on arrival. There were some welcome chocolates in the room which was a lovely touch. My partner mentioned I wasn’t able to eat them as some had alcohol and Sue kindly placed some non alcoholic chocs in our room the following day which was a lovely thoughtful gesture.
We will definitely be going back again.

We have recently spent 2 nights at Walker Ground Manor. A stunning building on a hill a stones throw from Hawkshead . Our hosts were very welcoming and clearly going above and beyond to ensure guest safety during the pandemic. The 4 poster room has a great view and is a traditional manor bedroom with a lovely contemporary bathroom. The accompanying soaps and bath salts are of the highest quality. Plenty of clean towels and a dressing gown. All spotlessly clean. The breakfast was superb , large choice and the local produce was as good as I've tasted. Lots of walks on the doorstep . Absolutely nothing to complain about .

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful 8 night stay at Walker Ground Manor. I can truly say we were spoilt, we didn’t want to leave.
We stayed in the Garden view room which overlooked the beautiful lush gardens. The room was spacious with the most comfortable bed I’ve probably ever slept in and the bathroom was incredible, a huge suite with a freestanding bathtub that overlooked the rolling hills of Hawkshead. It was a dream!
There were so much attention to detail during our stay starting from the homemade welcome cake and coffee, delicious chocolates and homemade flapjacks in our room to the luxury and locally sourced toiletries and bath salts.
Every day we were presented with a checklist incase we needed anything in our room topped up, from fresh fluffy towels, speciality teas, biscuits. The list goes on.
Every evening we looked forward to returning to our room, relaxing in the complimentary bathrobes and trying to decide what we wanted the next morning for breakfast. The menu looked amazing. All ingredients were fresh, locally sourced and lovingly presented. Between me and my husband we had the amazing overnight oats with berry compote and yogurt, pancakes with maple syrup, eggs Benedict, full English, omelettes. The list goes on.
Sue and Richard were the kindest of hosts and always welcomed us in the morning with a smile and were full of knowledge and tips for our daily walks and even had helpful print out maps available. We’re so grateful to them for making us feel so welcome in their home and allowing us to relax in their peaceful garden after a long days walk.
We wouldn’t dream of staying anywhere else in the Lake District and we can’t wait to go back.

We booked this accommodation fairly last minute due to everything selling out quickly/prices being extortionate and found it to be a reasonable price compared to others we'd seen. We were slightly concerned about booking somewhere more remote as we didn't know the area and its facilities at the time but actually preferred staying there as it was more peaceful.
We did, however have our meals in Ambleside and Bowness as there was more choice than Hawkshead Village.
The Garden View Room was lovely, clean and spacious with a beautiful bathroom, which really felt like a luxury to use!
The hospitality from the owners was excellent. They are super organised, friendly and helpful . The ordering system for their delicious breakfast is a fabulous touch and it was served right on time both mornings.
Our 2 night stay couldn't have been any better and my boyfriend had an amazing 30th birthday trip. Would definitely consider staying again.

We have stayed at Walker Ground Manor a number of times now and every time we have enjoyed a wonderful stay. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel very welcome by Sue and Richard and treated to tea, coffee and cake.
Our room was extremely clean and comfortable with many lovely extras such as chocolates, homemade biscuits, fresh milk and luxury toiletries.
Breakfast is an absolute feast with several different options to choose from. Make sure you sample Sue's Manor House sundaes!
Sue and Richard are very friendly and hardworking. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always pleased to offer advice on local walks and attractions. You can also be reassured that all the necessary Covid safety procedures are being followed without losing any of the special atmosphere that Walker Ground Manor has.
Thank you Sue and Richard for a lovely stay and we'll see you next time.

First timers, a warm welcome on arrival with some beautiful home-made cake and tea, a lovely room with extra touches and a very comfortable bed and one of the best breakfast selections we have experienced. Walker Ground is in a wonderful location within a short walking distance of Hawkshead and with plenty of walking or cycling options from the doorstep. Excellently hosted by Richard and Sue who provided some great recommendations regarding local places to try. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

We stayed for 4 nights in the Garden room and it was lovely. Sue and Richard made this trip special with the little touches. Home made biscuits. Welcome cup of tea. The rooms were immaculate, even the quilts and pillows are put into quarantine after each use. Which in the current climate was appreciated. Bedrooms were spacious and the bathroom lovely. The choice of breakfast was huge. Just wish we could have stayed longer to try everything.

Walker Ground is a stunning manor house with lots of history and wonderful, original character. It is beautifully maintained, in keeping with it's rich history. The antique furniture and original features of the house really add to it's luxurious feel. The added bonuses here are the additional spaces provided for guests; a comfortable and homely lounge, with a roaring wood burner and a lovely, bright conservatory overlooking the beautiful gardens, complete with natural waterfall!
Sue and Richard are warm and welcoming hosts, taking every care to make a stay with them really special. They were both great sources of information and gave lots of great recommendations of things to do and places to see. Sue has a tremendous knowledge of the history of Walker Ground and the nearby area.
We have to make a special mention of the quality of the breakfasts and the terrific menu options. When you stay with them, you must try Sue's fruit sundae and Richard's full breakfast, which will more than set you up for a day's walking. If you prefer a lighter breakfast, they offer a range of delicious temptations such as pancakes, Eggs Benedict and more.
Speaking of food, we were treated to tea and home made cake on arrival and every day, Sue provided a yummy homemade sweet treat- fantastic!
We stayed in the Garden View room and were bowled over by the luxury of the bedroom and the incredible bathroom, as well as the good quality toiletries provided. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and had everything you could wish for...including a teapot!!
The bonus was being five minute's walk from Hawkshead and having numerous country walks starting literally from the doorstep.
Needless to say, we can't speak highly enough of our stay and will definitely make a return visit.

We have just returned from another stay at Walker Ground Manor which was perfect in every way. Sue and Richard are exceptional hosts and you are made to feel very welcome from the moment you arrive and are offered tea, coffee and cake.
Our room was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed with lots of lovely extras including chocolates, homemade biscuits, fresh milk and luxurious Bath House toiletries.
The breakfasts are amazing with a wide choice including homemade bread and eggs from the Manor's hens. You must try the Manor Sundaes with homemade granola, yoghurt and fresh fruit.
Sue and Richard have all the relevant Covid practices in place but they are managed in such a way that the excellent service and guest comfort is maintained.
Thank you Sue and Richard for yet another lovely stay. See you next time.
