They say small things make all the difference. Well at Hillside with Richard & Wendy everything is just perfectly finished to make guests stay the best. I’ll mention just a few. The cutlery at breakfast is polished and I mean not washed and dried - polished. The teapot, the cafetière not washed and dried but highly polished stainless steel and they don’t dribble when pouring. Even the chrome coat hooks on the bathroom door were polished. The shower screen was polished - not wiped down - polished. The attention to detail is just huge and warmly welcome. Superb. If only 4 star hotels could do as good. The breakfast is totally cooked to perfection with gorgeous Cumberland sausage and high quality back bacon. I could go on but hey just book there- you won’t regret it.

This is a real home from home. I stayed in the first floor single room which was very well appointed, bigger than many doubles I have known, and totally peaceful being at the back of the property. Warm too on a very cold night. The breakfast was grand, and the location just right for me : I had a ticket for a gig at the Brewery Arts, and the B&B is only just beyond the upper ginnel that leads directly from the back of the venue. Thoroughly recommended.

This B&B is situated in a beautiful are of Cumbria, right on the edge of the Lake District. The owners, Richard and Wendy, were excellent hosts and were very welcoming. Their local knowledge made getting around Cumbria so much easier and ensured that we made the most of our limited time there. Whilst they were always available if we wanted them, they were in every way discreet and unobtrusive.
The rooms and public areas were spotless and everything was of exceptional quality. The breakfast was not only plentiful but very nicely cooked, with a lot of choice. Once again, the ingredients used were also of the best quality.
We cannot recommend this B&B highly enough and will definitely return.

Hillside is definitely one of the best B&Bs my husband and I have ever stayed in in the UK.

The welcome is warm, the room (no. 2, on the first floor), of a more than reasonable size, is impeccably clean, as is the bathroom, equipped with a large shower cabin, and very comfortable.

Excellent and plentiful breakfast, served in a bright room.

The host, the friendly and talkative Richard, is always generous with very useful information on the area.

There is no private parking, but, upon request, a free permit is provided, which allows you to leave the car in the surrounding streets. We have always found a place a few dozen meters from the B&B, on Belmont.

The area is purely residential and elegant, with lots of greenery.

The centre, which is full of restaurants, pubs and shops, is about ten minutes' walk away.

Highly recommended!

We came for the Kendal Whisky Festival weekend, and found the Hillside to be a superb place to stay. A very warm welcome from Richard and Wendy, with rooms that were cosy and spotless, and fans of a full English will not be disappointed! Convenient car parking right outside, and only a few minutes walk from the centre. We'll definitely return, and would recommend to anyone.

My wife and I have visited Kendal a number of times in the past, but never looked up Beast Banks for accommodation. So glad we did this time.
Richard and Wendy are ideal hosts and will do all they can to make your stay a good one.
We stayed in room 4, nice spacious room with all facilities.
Breakfast of a high quality with every choice you could wish for.
Parking permit free, and we found it simple to park close to the property.
Beast Banks is aptly named, but I'm 72, and didn't have any problems walking back up the hill 100 yards or so from the town centre so didn't really see that as any disadvantage, and it was very hot during our stay also.
Covid controls within were very good, with hand sanitizer provided and breakfast staggering to allow for distancing.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we will return.
No hesitation to recommend for a quality guest house stay.
Thanks to Richard and Wendy for making our stay such a pleasure.

Eddie and Christine

Beautifully simple, clean and relaxing and a host with a wonderful sense of humour. A very fulsome and tasty breakfast range in a cosy dining area. Every convenience is to hand and information about the B&B, Kendal and surrounding Lake District locations are readily available. Nothing was too much for Richard and Wendy, owners of Hillside B&B. A thoroughly lovely place to stay and one which I highly recommend.

Greeted by Richard who owns the place, he told us all about it and gave us some helpful information about the area. Free parking permit was given to us for on road parking.
Not always easy to get a space close by though so beware if you can't walk far.
Nice room at the front of the house, though very hot, there is a tower fan, which was on all night the first very hot night.
Ensuite is sparkly clean, with an amazing shower and fluffy towels.
TV has prime and iplayer which was great, we do our out and about during day/early evening so like to watch TV in evening.
Good selection of tea/coffee stuff.
Good selection of breakfast choices 😋
Hillside is as the name suggests on a hill, literally 5 mins walk from the town centre, great going down, harder coming back up the Beast 🙄😉
Lots of restaurants in the town.
We tried, Indian, Mexican and Thai all were amazing 😋
A good stay and we would recommend this B&B ✅
This was our 4th stop on our honeymoon tour of the North.

Friendly welcome from Richard and Wendy, quiet bedroom yet only a hundred yards walk to the centre of town. Lovely breakfast with a great choice. Efficient shower, fluffy towels. Make sure to ask for a parking permit when you book, lets you park all day free in the road outside. Kendal is lovely - we saw an otter in the town! Kingfishers and goosanders in the river too.

I would recommend this bed and breakfast to any couple! Myself and my partner stayed here for two nights on a weekend break in Kendal. I was greeted by Wendy who was accommodating from the get go, let me know the Covid guidelines in the hotel and provided the parking permit and room key. Our room was cozy and very clean - the mini Kendal mint cakes were a nice touch too. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious, filter coffee which is always a bonus and the full English was cooked to perfection. Served by Richard who is very friendly and knows the Lake District well; he even helped us plan our day. Be prepared to park away from the bed and breakfast, however. The permit provided allows you to park in a number of different streets, some of which are right outside but others are around a five minute walk away. This was fine for us and didn’t cause any issues. Overall a very pleasant stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to book this bed and breakfast again!

yes. hillside b & b . ring them direct for the best price - see their website for phone number. Kendal is a lakeside town so is unlikely to have many night clubs but it does have many nice shops ,museums, bars. and restaurants - check out the Kendal lakeside website.
