Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quite a few problems during our stay. Room safe was broken and we had to move rooms from 161 to 261.. Had to go looking for room towels, water, biscuits. Room was frozen and took ages to heat. Carpet in 261 had a big black mark on it. Found it very difficult to order food at night from the bar menu as they stopped taking orders at 7.15. This was due to the chef being"maxed" out as informed by the restuarant manager. Eventually they took an order but said it could be 40 mins wait. After 1 hr 15mins food still hadnt arrived. Cancelled our order and got a refund instead. Went to bed hungry. Drinks are expensive too. Left our room on Saturday morning at 9am to visit Keswick. When we returned at 5 pm our room heating had been turned off and it was an ice box. Took hours and hours to heat it up again. Only positive during our stay was that breakfast was good, but plates are way too small to accommodate many buffet items if you like your chuck. We've had many good stays at this hotel in the past but on this occasion it fell well short of its usual standards. I get the impression staffing levels don't meet the hotels needs to the detriment of its customers.

Many thanks once again for your feedback, Mr Wilson. So sorry that you didn't enjoy your whole stay. It was certainly a busy Christmas party weekend. With regards to 'small plates' at breakfast, its a self service buffet so please feel free to go back to it, if you would like a little more. Kind regards Robert Glashan General manager

Travelled to castle green 24 th November for 2 nights .. absolutely beautiful hotel .. from the moment we got there we were greeted by a lovely lady on reception who was very welcoming .. our room wasn't quite ready as we were far too early , so we went to Alexandra’s for lunch and that was just amazing , great friendly staff .. once checked in we were then greeted by the general manager Robert who was warmly welcoming and advised us on our walk we were doing the next day .. Our room was just beautiful! A lovely balcony which was a nice surprise !! The hotel had a very warm ,cosy , welcoming feel , We went to the pool and that was so warm , I didn’t want to leave it !! Food in the restaurant was gorgeous , I had the mushroom tart and the waitress explained it was new to the menu , fully recommend ! Breakfast Sunday morning was super busy but the staff coped well and very polite with it too .. all round a lovely wholesome stay at castle green and Thankyou very much to every single member of staff , nothing was too much trouble for anyone !! Fully recommend!!

We booked a standard twin room for one night arriving early evening The room 128 was very comfortable, bathroom sparkling clean , beds very comfortable and the temperature just right . Breakfast was plentiful and excellent , coffee served in a pot enough for 4 large cups . Staff were efficient and helpful. However in the night we both heard a loud humming noise we assumed it was the fan in the bathroom and switched the light off . It was still there and even with ear plugs we could both hear it. Turned out it was the large ventilation chimneys from the swimming pool right outside our window . Consequently we did not get a very good nights sleep . We mentioned it a reception on check out and she said the standard twin room are all in that area and shrugged her shoulders.

I stayed for a two night trip during my visit to the Kendal Mountain Festival, the hotel is perfectly located for access to Kendal town centre. Great facilities, friendly and helpful staff, a really great stay and I'll certainly book again for next year's festival.

We arrived at the hotel in the early evening after a nightmare of a 7 hour drive and all we wanted was a shower, a drink and good food, Our room was very nice and warm and the bathroom was very pleasant so that ticked number one on our list. We decided to eat in Alexanders pub on site and were quickly dealt with and shown to a table by the barman, who was very attentive. After having a drink we ordered our meals, both of us having the Cumberland sausage, mash and veg. Unfortunately, when they arrived we were both disappointed. The sausage and mash was surrounded by a deep moat of oily salty gravy with bits of veg floating in it and although the food was okay, the state and amount of the gravy spoilt it for us. Perhaps having gravy on the side would be an idea? After we'd finished, my wife ordered dessert which was served by the barman who had originally taken our order. He had obviously just been on a cigarette break, as the smell of tobacco smoke from him was very unpleasant to say the least. Breakfast next day was superb and more than made up for the evening meal and it was a delight to sit and look out on the beautiful gardens and bird life.

A birthday treat for my wife, stopping Thursday and Friday night. Executive king room gave us plenty of space with a very nice bathroom. Disappointing that there was no table for drinks when sat on the sofa, though more disappointing that despite running the air-con at 28 degrees the room did not warm up, (reported to reception but not resolved). The restaurant and bar served very good food, however the restaurant was a little pricey. Friday evening in the bar was cold, with another guest commenting about it being chilly. Restaurant no better that evening with another guest leaving the restaurant and returning having donned a pullover. On the plus side all of the staff were friendly and polite, particularly the housekeeping team.

We have just enjoyed a 3 night stay at Castle Green. The room was immaculate. We stayed in a family suite and found it to be extremely comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and the staff in the restaurant were attentive and very friendly. In fact the staff throughout the hotel were very welcoming and accommodating, and they were excellent with the children. We ate in the Greenhouse restaurant one evening and the food was exceptional and very fairly priced for the quality. I could not pick a single fault with the overall experience and would recommend it without any reservation.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and always had very good service. The rooms are of various sizes but the Executive Suites are superb, the other rooms more than adequate. The food in the restaurant has varied in quality lately but was very good on the last visit- imaginative and well presented. The reception staff are generally very efficient and friendly.
