Detailed Reviews
We stayed here last night for a relaxed night after a very busy weekend and had a lovely time.
The hotel was nicely decorated inside and out with a small garden area to sit in for drinks, as well as a bar and restaurant. However, the location of the hotel was not what we expected upon arrival. Looking at the website, we got the impression it was a country hotel in the countryside but the hotel is actually on the side of the road. Nonetheless, this wasn’t an issue as we didn’t really hear the road traffic from our room and still had a great nights sleep. We were also a 10-15 minute walk into Kendal town centre which had plenty of places to eat and drink if you fancy going somewhere else. Frydays of Kendal is a great place for fish and chips if you fancy a reasonably priced and very nice chippy dinner!
Our room was beautiful, clean and well thought out. We had everything we needed, including a fan which was much appreciated as it has been particularly hot this weekend! Check in was smooth and staff were friendly and just couldn’t do enough for you. Our stay included breakfast which was excellent, served by Sylvia who was so smiley and polite.
Overall, we felt so relaxed and were so glad that we chose to stay here - We’ll definitely be returning in the future!

Overall outstanding stay at this hotel. The rooms were decorated beautifully with all the possible amnesties that you could possibly need (iron, ironing board, hairdryer etc). The hotel provided a generous coffee station with a large selection of coffee options and biscuits which made the room feel very homely and clean. The spa facilities were very clean and for the majority of the time we spent there we had the place to ourselves, the only fault is that the jacuzzi was out of order during the duration of our stay. The breakfast was brilliant, I’d highly recommend the pain au chocolate (it was huge) plus the full Cumbrian breakfast was delicious! I would recommend this hotel to people planning a trip to Kendal.

We have stayed at this hotel on two occasions, and both visits have been pleasant and enjoyable. The hotel is located on the edge of Kendal and is easy to find and very convenient for both the lakes and the Cumbrian fells. It is close enough to the M6 to be a stopping off point enroute to Scotland.
The room we had was at the back of the hotel overlooking the carpark, but was large and spacious and very quiet. The decor was fresh and pleasant and the bath room was clean and modern. All amenities worked well and the room was very clean. The radiators and towel rail were all adjustable and the room was very cosy.
The breakfast was table service[no buffet items] and was prepared to perfection.
The menu was full and comprehensive. We also had dinner in the restaurant which was also very good, although the menu and wine list were limited.
Car parking at the hotel is free and plentiful.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially Helen Clark the manager, to whom nothing is too much trouble.

Hotel is in a good position with a nice 20/25 min walk into Kendal. The breakfasts are excellent with a good choice of freshly cooked food.
Whilst we appreciate we visited during a hot spell, we can’t accept the heat in the bedrooms. We were on honeymoon and booked a bottle of champers in the room upon arrival. The room was so hot that the ice had melted and the bottle was warm. I got more ice. This melted within 20 mins. The bathroom was so hot you were soaking wet before getting in the shower. There was no through air in the room to cool it down. Just one small window which let in very little air. A fan was provided but this was of poor quality and just passed warm air around the room. A second fan was provided but again had no effect. We were staying 10 days. So I complained to the manager, whose reaction was “well what do you want me to do about it”. And walked off!!! Others also complained as the rooms were uninhabitable. We did ask for a sheet instead of a duvet which was provided. However, the duvet was removed!!!
This hotel is sold as a spa hotel. It’s not. The pool is small and only 4 people allowed at anyone time (although outside non residents seem to rock up and use it when they feel like it). The steam room and sauna were shut despite Covid restrictions being lifted.
There was a distinct lack of communication causing confusion when it comes to getting the room cleaned or towels charged. This needs to be made clearer when checking in.
We booked a deluxe double room. The rooms are small with no added chairs for comfort or relaxation. The lounge area downstairs lacks atmosphere. This is not a spa hotel by any stretch of the imagination. At an average price of £160 per night for 10 nights we feel cheated.

Recently stayed at the Stonecross Manor for two nights mid week and thinking we were treating ourselves I booked a “Junior Suite Country View” at a cost of £242 / night.
On checking in we were very disappointed with the room because that’s all it was, a slightly larger room than normal with a coffee table and a couple of dining chairs – nowhere comfortable to sit and the TV mounted on a side wall so when laying in bed you had to peer over to the left, awkward in a double bed.
Were advised on checking in that the rooms would not be entered by staff due to Covic but on request and after advising them we would be out for the day the towels were changed and tea/coffee replenished.
The black mould and dust around the windows gave the impression that maintenance or cleaning were not the main priorities and the whole room could have done with an update.
Bar area itself is a bit basic, adjoined onto the dining area but there was a seating area with Covic spaced tables and decent seating on the other side of reception.
Drinks expensive but expected in a hotel bar, no real ale available although the pumps were there.
We had booked Half Board and both breakfasts and evening meals were good but you are limited to £30 each off the menu for the evening meal and with a steak at £26 it didn’t leave much.
Kendal is not a lot to write home about, not many bars or restaurants open but if you want a haircut there’s a lot of choice.

Staff helpful and cheerful . Breakfast was lovely, had full Cumbrian which was locally sourced , sausage and bacon good quality. Wife had salmon which was also lovely . Very quiet stay no noise from adjourning rooms as room walls very solid brick . Would stay here again and will do in near future .

Easy to find, looked nice when arrived with amply parking. Reception nice and check in very quick as did it online first and both reception girls lovely!
Room ok, blue and yellow not my cup of tea And looked a little dated. Clean tea/coffee facilities plenty of it too with biscuits provided. Disappointed to find mould all round the window frames but room did not smell because of it at all. Good size wardrobe and did not smell musty always good, with enough hangers and a full size ironing board plus iron which was handy!
Bathroom really nice very modern with nice shower over a bath with toiletries provided! And the best, thickest toilet paper I’ve ever used lol.
Breakfast is great with so many options, really set us up for the day!
Location was ok if you want to use your car all the time as not close to anything really! Walk to town is 20 mins and town but not the best if looking for nice little pubs to have a drink in the evening! Windermere was about a 15/20 min drive.
Although hotel ok we wouldn’t use again, would book in Bowness-in-Windermere or Ambleside!

We began arranging mums 80th birthday in January 2021, at the time we were in lockdown, and I can’t praise the manager Helen Clark enough for the ease in which this was done. I found her extremely accommodating and communicative. The whole event was arranged via email, we never once had to go to the hotel.
We had a three course dinner of mums choice with wine, a welcome drink and a toast drink even a cake was provided. The table was set immaculately with white cloth and napkins even some “Happy Birthday” confetti and flowers. The food was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and served promptly considering there were 13 people to serve, no one was kept waiting for food.
We had the use of a private room all evening, which was nice after dinner to relax in.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a function, outstanding work from Helen and her team. Thank you for making mums special day a memorable one for all the right reasons.

My husband and I visited this lovely hotel with 20 walking friends for a 4 night stay. Our room was on the second floor at the front of the hotel and of adequate size, very clean and comfortable . There was was traffic noise when the window was open but when closed it was fine with the electric fan on.
We didn’t use the swimming pool on this visit but many of our friends did and was happy with the facilities. We were aware that the hot tub was not in use prior to visiting because it stated it on the hotel’s website.
The breakfast menu was excellent and food delicious and plenty of it. We ate in one evening after our long walk climbing Scafell Pike which was a two hour run from the hotel . We chose our meal the night before because of the large group which was not a problem and everyone enjoyed.
There are plenty of places to eat in the lovely town which is about a 15 minute walk in with cafes and various restaurants .
The staff we found to be friendly and helpful. We didn’t have room service whilst we were there but when we requested clean towels, tea, milk etc there was no problem.
All in all because we were such a large group we thought the hotel served us extremely well.

From the initial booking to check out this was a very enjoyable experience. The original intention of a week in Scotland meeting old friends to celebrate a milestone birthday were cancelled by COVID19 restrictions so a quick alternative was needed. Having seen an advert for a 3 for 2 nights break offer from Best Western we decided a short trip to the Lake District would suit as it was equidistant from me in Gloucestershire and my friends in Fife. We were made very welcome by all the staff. The rooms were very comfortable with good bathrooms and beds. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts each morning as well as a very good dinner on the first night. Sadly we didn't get the opportunity to use the leisure facilities as we did not find the time. Ample car parking and easy access to Windermere etc suited us very well. The COVID19 precautions were first class without being too obtrusive. Overall great value for money. Thanks for a great stay and we will certainly return next time we are in the area.

I had an inclusive DBB rate. If you go to their website it is possible to find a menu for the Woodland Bar and Kitchen (TA won't let me add the link)
The Woodland BAr also doubles up as a restaurant and I must admit the menu I was offered for the dinner deal was nowhere as expensive or adventurous as this!
Yes towels are provided.
Yeah it’s open until 9 I think
No I don’t think so
As of July 2018, the refurbishment is still happening. I've just stayed in an unfurnished room - not good.
