Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a really warm, comfortable and friendly stay at this little guest house close to Kendal town centre. The room was spotless and better equipped than most hotels - from plentiful tea, coffee and biccies to bathrobes and even earplugs! The owners obviously take great care to cater for their guests' comfort. And the breakfast was fab!!

This is a very comfortable small guest house in a central location. Our room was small but very well equipped with a thoughtfully equipped shower room en suite. The breakfast was freshly cooked abd our only thumbs down was the coffee which was a bit thick and treacly. In such a small place individual cafetières would much better. The owners have paid great attention to detail. We were able to park in the side street opposite the house.

Really friendly, cosy little place . We stopped for one night on the way to Scotland and didn’t expect too much but were pleasantly surprised. Very friendly host and a warm comfy room . Breakfast was 10/10 , so much attention paid to every detail .

Lovely stay. Room was much bigger than most b&bs, especially the bathroom. Nice toiletries provided (same as the 5 star hotel we stayed in the next night!). Great breakfast. Good communication before check in and all contact free and covid safe.

Stayed for 2 nights and I must say it was the best 2 nights stay we have ever had anywhere. Even in these testing times Chris & Inoka did everything they could to make sure guests enjoyed their stay. If you stay here and forget to pack some toiletries rest assured they have got it covered, there is everything you would ever need. The room was spacious and very clean, the beds where very comfortable. Fresh towels etc where readily available if required. One of the main things I look for on reviews is how the breakfast is rated. The Sonata does not disappoint on this score, delicious full English on both mornings to set you up for the day. An excellent couple of days in Kendal trying to get some normality into our lives. And it’s because of people like Chris & Inoka not having a break it allows other people to have a break. For that they deserve all the credit they get, and we hope to return soon, hopefully in better times than we are in now. Many thanks John & Lin

Delightful experience - superb, cosy rooms and delicious fried breakfast. I also loved the bath and complimentary lemongrass bath salts! I slept perfectly. Would highly recommend and visit again. The location is ideal too.

Right from booking to leaving I felt a priority to the owners. I was very impressed with the room. It was very pleasing to find everything from tea/coffee to toiletries/earplugs already supplied ! Beautiful decor, very comfy beds. The breakfast was brilliant, made to order. Can’t Thankyou enough . You certainly exceeded any expectations. I will most definitely use this fabulous B&B again.

One of the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept in! Everything about Sonata speaks to the care Chris and Inoka take to ensure a great stay. All the facilities are of the highest quality and the breakfast rightly deserves the Visit England Breakfast Award. Most importantly, their attention to Covid-19 hygiene requirements is exemplary and guests can feel very safe in this environment. Well done, this is our first choice for accommodation in Kendal.

I arrived in the property in less than 10' after getting of the train station. My room was ready way earlier than the check in time which was a great convenience. Inoka welcomed me and showed me my room, she was kind and friendly without the fake happy-face you'll find in big 5* hotels. The next day during breakfast I met Chris who had prepared a tasty full english breakfast for me. My room was spotless and with all the amenities that were needed. I'd visit the place again without a second thought.

Wow what a wonderful little guest house with amazing views. The owners are Brill and can't do enough for you. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water both still and fizzy in the rooms. Toiletries where lovely and they had literally thought of everything from Toothbrushes to shower caps to ear plugs. It really was a lovely stay and we will definitely be back. The beds where wonderfully comfy and we slept really well. Breakfast was freshly cooked with lots of choice including cereal and fresh fruit. Loved our stay!!
