We were looking forward to a return visit to the George now that things have settled down, but my word do we wish we hadn’t bothered. Once upon a time this was one of Keswick‘s highlights for good grub, but that has all changed. The food was only lukewarm, served in small portions and far too over-salted. We would have mentioned something to a member staff at the time had any of them been remotely interested in the customers. Very sad to see such a change. We won’t be letting any of our cash darken their till draws again. Plenty of other places to eat in the town.
Booked a meal here to celebrate my partner's birthday at the start of Keswick Mountain Festival Week. The food in the restaurant used to be very good but it appears standards have slipped. The chips with my scampi were not freshly cooked and obviously re-heats. They were very bitty and hard and did not look like chips served to other customers. The vegetables were not warm enough however the scampi was satisfactory. My partner had an issue with her dauphinoise potatoes which again seemed reheated and her salmon was over cooked. Needless to say we will not be back.
Really disappointed, had lunch there this afternoon haven’t got a good word to say about it, my husband did mention to the staff that the food hadn’t been great, said they would mention it to the chef, won’t be returning I’m afraid.
Nice clean pub offering a wide menu in olde world surroundings. Possible to make reservations, but as a popular venue you need to do this well in advance. Good food and wines served by friendly and attentive young staff. Not possible to park nearby. Their speciality pies are huge!
A pleasant meal with friendly staff. Sorted my intolerance but not much choice for me. Shame about the frozen veg and the salmon was a bit overcooked for our taste. Chips were great, also the bbq chicken wings. Lovely old premises. We were not rushed even though they were pretty busy.
