Just back from 2 nights with Craig and his team at the George.

Having visited many times I was intrigued to see how they would manage in the current pandemic. All I can say is as a key worker who works in H&S with family who are shielding the George have set up excellent control measures from track & trace, sanitizer stations, divides and sealed sanitized rooms. - A massive well done this could be used as best practice across the hospitality industry.

As for the food & drink its never changes always excellent, great choice and friendly staff. Thanks again and see you in September.

Stay safe - Rick & Adele

We have just returned from a short break at The George, in Keswick. We booked very last-minute. My husband had eaten there before and knew the food was good. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They were very pleased to help and fulfill any requests we had. Our room was clean, warm and comfortably large enough for 2 people. We had a small view of the hills from our window. There were signs offering to change towels/linen if requested, but we, like most reasonable people, opt to save the environment and reuse towels. The food was hot, tasty and of good portion size. The only thing we didn’t enjoy was one night being placed on a table so close to the next couple as to be practically with them, when the dining room was not full. We do prefer a bit more space if possible, when dining. Otherwise, we had a very enjoyable stay and would go there again.

Stayed in a twin room on the first floor. Room was absolutely fine. Clean and well presented. Good sized bathroom and good sized shower and some toiletries (do people still use shower caps?). Fresh towels, kettle, tea and coffee were all available as was a TV with remote.

Our room looked right on the main road so there was some traffic noise as it`s a thoroughfare so if that bothers you I`d ask for a rear facing room. I have a wife that snores like a trooper (God love her) so a little traffic noise didn`t bother me.

The hotel bar was great and the staff were all very pleasant and very helpful. Breakfast was really good with it all being cooked to order which was very nice.

We ate in the restaurant in the evening and again the food was excellent. I had the Cow Pie and you definitely need a big appetite to finish but I managed to save room for dessert. Highly recommended.

Overall I would not hesitate to stay here again. Great location.

There is no parking but Central Car Park is about a 5 minute walk up a small incline and not expensively priced (£22 for two days).

Thanks to the staff for making us feel very welcome.

We have visited the George many times and it is usually one of our favourite places to eat. We booked a table on 8th Aug in what we thought would be the restaraunt and on arrival was seated in the side room behind the door, the staff jokingly said it was because we looked like trouble (it was just myself, husband and daughter) although I appreciate his humour i think it was an acknowledgement of it not being the greatest place to be seated. Each table is partitioned off by large boards, the room felt very dark and dingy and we felt rather uncomfortable. Whilst I appreciate these are strange times, most other establishments have either reduced numbers or made more of an effort to try to at least make the partitions more appealing. Take a walk over the road and look at the square orange as a great example. We asked to be moved but was informed it was reservations only, I explained that we had reserved a table and was informed this was the table we had been allocated to, so we decided to leave. We will still return one day when times are better but for now anyone anyone making a reservation if you want a seat in the restaraunt and not be hemmed in by large white boards please make sure that is what you are getting.

Oh dear what has gone wrong with George Hotel meals ? Used to be gorgeous but our recent experience was really awful !
We visited Monday 13 July and ate in restaurant. Waiting staff attentive and friendly.

Meals were expensive we thought.

My husband ordered surf and turf. He asked for medium to well done steak and received rare. He sent it back and when his meal returned the so called chef had re cooked the same steak plus burned his scampi and chips to boot. Also salad with the meal ?? Bizarre when he had peppercorn sauce. It just didn’t go !

I had chicken with JD sauce. Frozen piece of plastic cheap chicken with cheddar melted on top. Thought mozzarella may have been better ?

Who was the so called chef that night ? Please have a word with him/ her. Honestly could have cooked better myself !

The Manager was lovely. Apologetic and refunded us some money so thank you.

Sorry. It will take us a long time to return :(

On a wet Wednesday during half term we were trying to find somewhere for lunch (pram in tow) but every cafe was packed. Just off the market square we dropped into the George and were so glad we did.

I would describe The George as a cosy, traditional pub and we were greeted with a roaring fire. Food was ordered at the bar - a vege sausage baguette for me and a margherita pizza from the children’s menu for him. Our order arrived quickly, the food was delicious and the portion size huge!

What also helps to make this a great place are the staff, the young chap who served us should be commended and provided us with outstanding service.

We will certainly drop in again when we next visit Keswick.

We struggled on New Year’s Eve to find a decent venue for the 8 of us to eat lunch. The waiter said give me a few minutes while I arrange tables and then seated us and handed out the menus. The place was busy as lot of people came in with large parties and I noticed they were all treated with the same enthusiasm and seated comfortably.
The food was served piping hot and everyone enjoyed it. The chips were quite literally amongst the best ever eaten away from home.

We have just left The George after a lovely two night stay. This beautiful hotel perfectly located in the centre of Keswick has a friendly atmosphere, with feel of an old fashioned traditional pub filled with locals and tourists alike. The room was clean, tidy with a large en-suite and shower. The breakfasts were delicious with friendly & attentive staff. Sadly due to having booked evening meals elsewhere, we did not have an opportunity to sample the infamous pies, but this is a great excuse to return again in the future.
Thank you to everyone at The George for a wonderful stay.

We had a great evening with friendly warm service from a great team of staff, who, despite being short handed, worked hard to meet everyone’s needs.

Food and drinks were serviced in good time, not too quick or too slow and always with a smile.

The food was excellent and good value with a range of dishes to meet everyone’s tastes.

Thanks for a great night all at The George.
